Pj's Mexican Kitchen Northcote reviews
45 As per all of the other reviews on here, very very average.
Tasted no alcohol in the overly-sweet cocktail and the waiter didn't seem to know what he was doing.
Don't recommend. Far too overpriced for the dull food and drinks it had to offer.
Start with Nachos Supreme then choose which Fajitas you want. Really friendly service, great food with a kooky decor. Don’t forget to book so you are not turned away
Best Mexican in the country bar none. Great food, great service and such a great atmosphere.
We had nachos, tacos, burritos. Nachos tasted like Woolies chips with melted cheese. Beef tacos had tortillas that tasted like they came from an Aldi packet that weren’t even cooked and beef want seasoned and definitely not ‘Mexican’. Burritos were just a tortilla with some beans from a can and some ‘meat’ in a tortilla. They had no other fillings and were not true burritos. Felt like we were eating from a fast food joint at an airport. Very disappointed after spending over $80. Definitely won’t be returning.
PJ is a great host, makes u feel at home simple and delicious meals have tried most things on menu can highly recommend the beef crispy tacos and enchiladas and of.course the Mexican Punch
Best mexican we’ve had, the servings are generous & tasty & the service is always friendly. We always come to celebrate family birthdays & all our meals are served at the same time, which we’re always impressed by. Couldn’t recommend it enough!
This place is pretty average. I recently ordered a burrito for take away one Friday evening, it was a sad and thin looking burrito with rice and beans on the side for $26.
I have just given it another go as I love Mexican food and this is our local. Sure the drinks are large and look exciting but they are made from a mix. The food is very average and expensive for what arrives on the plate.
The picture is of a kids deluxe nachos that we paid $12 for. Sorry that is some Doritos on a plate that has microwave melted cheese on top. We did upgrade to get the sour cream and guacamole ($11 for just the plate of chips with melted cheese).
Avoid.
Our "Go to" Mexican restaurant in the area. The food never disappoints. Always a good selection of beers too choose from available too
The place has a comfy, great vibe. The staff are polite and warm. Margaritas are decent. Unfortunately the food is bland, what a let down: (
Don’t reply to emails. And when I rang to book for a large group they said only taking 8 people.
Very poor business mentality!
The service was beyond poor. Staff were so rude and made us feel very uncomfortable. We went for a few Friday night Margeritas which were nice. However, I would never return based on how we were made to feel and the toxic energy of the staff.
Brilliant place for a feed or just a drink. The owner is a top bloke and we went for a few beers and tequila during a guys night out and they were really hospitable considering they were about to close.
Honestly, probably the worst Mexican I have ever had. I ate here some time ago (less the 6 months) but I was prompted the restaurant when checking out Mexican in the area. It was really awful - just slop.
Drinks were the best part. Service is ok. Food is absolutely awful. Read the other low reviews, they are correct, it all tastes the same and like it's been bought from a supermarket. Plates are so hot you'll get third degree burns. Step your game up PJs.
Can't fault the mocktails or cocktails and the food is delicious, one of the BEST Mexican restaurants I've discovered in a long time. Owner/ staff very friendly and responsive.
Food was awful! Bean burrito was beanless & my friends seafood dish had 1 or2 tiny prawns & scallop! Never coming again
I went here for the first time on Saturday evening and really enjoyed both the food and the relaxed atmosphere. I'll be returning to sample more of the menu.
Big serves of good food and a solid margherita as well. Table service was very attentive when we visited and there was plenty left for lunch the next day.
If taco bill downgraded it would probably be this place. Everything tasted like it was bought from a super market and microwaved. Very disappointed. Save your money and buy a microwave burrito
Response to owners comment:
Not sure how we looked for trouble because we arrived, ordered our starters and drinks but couldn’t get any further because they were so bad. We didn’t make any comment about the food while we were there. Maybe try actually responding to the things that weren’t enjoyed instead of just trying to put the blame elsewhere.
A Thornbury institution. This is where you go to for no frills tex mex - good hearty meals packed with flavour and love. Prices are Thornbury level but worth the quality and serving size. It can get busy.
