Consistently inconsistent. Just five minutes from home, Pidapipo Laboratorio in Fitzroy can bring so much joy and regularly so much frustration.

The ever changing seasonal menu is fantastic, and the fact that you can try the new flavours before you buy is wonderful.

What regularly let's this place down is the staff and service which goes from the FANTASTIC "I enjoy my job and can have fun, engage with customers and provide great service" to the HORRIBLE "I wish I wasn't here, I'd rather be with my friends enjoying myself than having to deal with people I don't know or care about". Me, me, me.

The massive inconsistencies in serving size is also a problem. The place isn't cheap. I get that quality needs to come at a premium, but my last visit on Wednesday 3 Jan delivered a single scoop that was less than half the size of the serve I had last week. No thanks to that staff member whose attitude matched the miserly serving.

Please get it right.

With 8 core flavours, Pidapipo's laboratory features transparent glass which really gets you involved in the whole process.

The Nutella swirl is almost an exact replica of my favourite flavour: stracciatella. It's a vanilla base with chocolate shavings that add texture to a classic flavour.
I don't know how Pidapippo were going to pull the hazelnut flavours when the chocolate pieces were so small, but I appreciate the relatable naming convention!

Staff were patient in letting me try the whole menu to get the flavour I liked before I bought it!

Delicious hot chocolate! Not a lot of places to sit - it’s more of a grab-and-go vibe. Love that’s it’s open late afternoon.

Last week I went to Pidapipó Laboratorio and had a yummy matcha and white chocolate ice cream, It was the best one I've ever had! The matcha and white chocolate ice cream had the perfect amount of matcha and sweetness. The staff are always very kind and friendly and give us sample tastings.

Icecream was nice but the serving was bad? I literally had a decent serving on bottom and a little 2 bite on top. I dont think it was worth the $8.

Such a beautiful and unique experience! Loved to come here and chat with the staff, learn about how and why they make gelato and hear their recommendations! Got to try plenty of unique and exclusive flavours (this is a rotating, limited menu!) and settled on bacio and vegan pistachio.some of the best ice cream i've had in mel easily! Somehow even better than their other stores.maybe because it was so freshly made, but either way it was fantastic! Creamy and fresh and light and melty, 11/10.the vegan pistachio somehow tasted even more like pistachio than the actual nut.theyre magicians! Thankyou pidapipo, can't wait to return and try more!

Pidapipo make the best flavoured and textured ice cream in town. Enjoyed visiting the lab for some unique flavours. The house chocolate bars are pretty good as well, but not cheap, roughly $16 for a small block.

There is not variety. You cannot even find the classic flavours There were probably 8 flavours. We had chocolate & sea salt, I couldn't taste the saltiness. The ricotta with plum jam was almost flavorless. The bacio and the vanilla were very nice.
The lab is massive and with a lot of potential, I would just suggest to have more flavours. I wouldn't go back

Delicious ice cream and pralines and really stylish interior where you can watch the baker and ice cream makers. Really don’t get the bad feedback; staff was super friendly!

Ricotta and apricot jam was so good! Understand the flavours are experimental each day and differ from the other branches, but I hope that flavour makes the cut. Slightly slow service (only one staff working on a 35 degree weekend summer evening?) but it wasn’t too bad. Nice location and vibe.

A bit disappointing. Having visited (and enjoyed) various other Pidapipo's in Melbourne before, we were kind of expecting something a little more adventurous from this laboratory outlet. Minimal choices on offer and to be honest the two flavours we tried (fior di latte with blackcurrant jam, and fig leaf) were just too subtle for us.

I recently visited this gelateria Pidapipò in Melbourne and was blown away by the delicious chocolate and lychee flavors. The chocolate was rich and creamy, while the lychee had a unique and refreshing taste. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, making the overall experience even better. I highly recommend this gelateria to anyone in the area looking for top-quality gelato.

I understand the concept but needs to have the original flavours plus new ideas. We drove all the way there to only turn around to drive back to Carlton.

Ice cream flavours are very different than traditional (I enjoyed it), interior/fit out is wild (and expensive looking), but the staff suck, not friendly, not interested, couldn’t give a hoot. Way less fun to visit than it should be.

We visited Pidapipo's new ice cream lab in Fitzroy and were unfortunately disappointed with the overall experience. While the ice cream itself was delicious, the atmosphere in the store was lacking and the staff seemed uninterested and unfriendly. We typically visit the Pidapipo location in Windsor and have always had a positive experience, so this was a letdown. Additionally, at $7 per scoop, we expected better service and a more welcoming atmosphere.

The staff are so ridiculously rude and seemed like they absolutely didn’t want to be there. Staff walked their rubbish out in front of everyone and dumped big garbage bags into the gutter up the road. Ice cream was very average. Do yourself a favour and walk to a different spot.

RUDE! Staff don’t want you to buy anything from the store, don’t want to do any work. Girl at the front said boss would kill her if we were to try any of the flavours before we bought, even though they have sample spoons. Boss has apparently told staff the spoons are very expensive and not to let customers try. So disappointing, not sure how customers can try flavours before they buy.

Gelato as incredible as ever for Pidapipo and exciting flavours to taste. Service quite slow and messy, bound to just be teething problems though
