PICA (Port Melbourne Industrial Centre for the Arts) reviews
19Hard to get to. No cloak room. As far as venues for music concerts go this is pretty bare bones. Would be good for summer events though given that it's open air but that's about it really.
This was a quality music venue. In fact one of the best set up and ran I've ever been to. The sound was good, space had heaps of crowd room, with multiple areas to get a good view of the bands. It also had areas with couches to sit and chill and a space for food trucks. The place also had heaps of bars, with really efficient lines (maybe too many staff, you could get served straight away!). Also heaps of toilets. The redo of an old air hanger/warehouse really works.
Public transport to the venue is non existent, I drove rather than taking the shuttle bus, and thanks to the reviewer before me who suggested parking along Williamstown road, the walk is less than ten minutes.
The Smashing Pumpkins crowd was a bit lame, I think people forgot how Moshes work but that's hardly the venue's fault!
I mean.its just a big tin shed and bad acoustics but it has loads of atmosphere for a concert
Ok, the drinks were mega pricey ($14 - $16 for a can of premix), and the roof rattles like crazy with loud music totally ruining the mix. This could be more about promoters choosing the wrong venue. Was clean, well staffed, etc.toilets are combo of fixed and portable, gets a bit gross as the day goes on, the food trucks were great but unsure if always there. Just a shame about the acoustics.
Terrific venue! Great undercover & outdoor spaces. No public transport options are challenging
Across the road from the rival Timber Yard, both competing for the same large scale, industrial event space market.
They seem to be fighting in the same weight class, so it's a close one.
Great industral location for dance parties. Unfortunately, the sound wasn't great and it would have been good to have an area to sit and chill a bit.
Went to the Monolith festival here. Such a great live music venue.
The queueing area for the bars needs improvement. The rubbish/recycling bins need better labelling as they both ended up as mixed rubbish.
Attended Monolith festival here and it was an awesome venue for it. Lots of space and the whole area was under cover without it being "inside" which is great for a music venue in Melbourne. Hoping to see some more gigs here in the future
One of the worst sounding venues I have ever experienced in Melbourne. It's a giant corrugated hanger though, so not that surprising. Sounds bad everywhere, bass and detuned guitars rattle and reverb everything, everywhere. Stick to doof sessions.
Worst sounding venue I’ve ever experienced, a massive tin shed that hums and vibrates loudly, awful acoustics. Traffic and parking is a nightmare. Not enough seating in the food area.
If you have a brilliant line up of top aussie prog rock, this is a terrible venue to showcase it. Accoustics were terrible.
Decent gig venue, good facilities, pricey drinks.no public transport makes getting out at the end a bit of a Taxi/Uber lottery.
Amazing space, deals with large crowds exceptionally. If you have a gig here, expect a great night.
Been to a couple of gigs here, great venue for raves/doofs. Bit of an aircraft hanger feel, not sure how things will go with heat in summer but is absolutely freezing in winter, once the gig gets going you soon forget about that though. Only toilets are portaloos, so expect long queues and grossness there
Good venue for music festivals - nice of them to have outdoor heaters given that it's winter.
Accessibility issues for those who don't want to take an Uber / Taxi.
Safe venue, and reasonable breathing space if you want to get away from the crowds.
Great vibe, big industrial style venue with great access and plenty of room to move around. Toilet placement lead a little to be desired but not necessarily a venue issue.
I did a rave here. Everyone was on drugs and listening to very loud German techno. There were also some robots. Five stars.
What an amazing hidden gem this is! An amazing space with great potential for festivals and events. The back courtyard accompanies an aeroplane hanger type main interior. Guarded by the awesome scrap metal robot sculptures, this is definitely a space to keep an eye on in Melbourne. Worth a peek for the statues if you like your art with a junkyard vibe to it.
