Phuong Nam Restaurant reviews
26Really amazing food, we had the crispy chicken pho and it was so crispy and tasty. Everything was super hot and fresh. The guy serving us was also super nice on such a busy night. It’s really cheap too, I highly recommend.
The best pho I have tasted in all of Melbourne and I've had some of the best in Cabramatta in Sydney. Excellent spring rolls too. Highly recommend it
Nothing but positive words for these guys food couldn't be better service is great super affordable for the huge portions they hook you up with all the Vietnamese classics and a huge variety of options can't go wrong and defo worth a shot
With so many Vietnamese restaurants on this block alone, Phuong Nam is my go to for banh canh. Only because they use tapioca noodles where most places use rice noodles. Is it weird that I just love the texture of tapioca noodles?
Overall: 3.5/5 Nice place for a simple dinner. The broth can sometimes be a miss (bland) and ingredients could be a little fresher (frozen for too long / dry).
Ordered:
• Shrimp and pork tapioca noodle soup / Banh canh tom thit $16
• Chicken pho $16 (?)
• Spring rolls $8
Price: Standard
Service: Standard
Venue: Lots of seating indoors. Back and front entrance.
Was I full? Yes.
Clean and decent Vietnamese restaurant with prompt service. They serve the main staples here and also put their spin on some of the foods which meant they would be adding intestine, heart, liver, heart and hock - which was interesting but not recommended for those who've never tried these parts of meat before. #Vietfood #brokenrice
Efficient service, nice condiments and hot tea, which was replaced. Serves were a good size and quality. I want to come back and try a soup. They looked good.
I really hate giving negative feedback about a restaurant. The service is great but when my pho came. I was insulted, there was no basil for garnish and I did ask the waitress and she said it's too late to go to preston market (11am) didn'tmake sense. What was more revolting was my pho dish, the rare beef had dried crust on the meat and looked like it was fully cooked prior, to hide the dried stale beef, and on top of that the soup was cold. I think I'm more disgusted with myself for eating it and letting my son eat it. He was so hungry. I mentally feel like throwing up because I just can't believe what I ate and i can't stop thinking about it. I should have been more confident and speak up next time. I was there on 7th May 2023 at 12pm sitting by the window with my son.
I think it's the best Vietnamese restaurant in the North. Good prices, excellent range and delicious dishes, with friendly service.
Let me tell you, this a legit 5 out of 5, everytime I go anywhere that offers a salted fish and chicken fried rice, I will order it. The one that this restaurant serves up is literally the best one I've had for decades, the salted fish and chicken fried rice here is absolutely delicious, presented fantastic at the table or as a takeaway for later on, absolutely brilliant ten out of ten.
I also really like the atmosphere, the guy there is really cool and the staff are good and I like the screens playing DVDs of Mr bean or whatever, absolutely my favorite, slide into my DMS if u want to go here for a salted fish and chicken fried rice date with me
Very good Vietnamese restaurant.
Nothing flash, but lovely food, fresh, tasty and served pretty quickly.
Recommended!
Literally one of the best BBH (Bun Bo Hue) I have had and this includes spots in Westminster in Southern California. The bowl was massive as well. The Banh Canh was prefect and the chicken that came with it made me nostalgic for my childhood. Oh the San Choy Bau was also very clutch as well. This place can get crowded but it is worth it.
Beautiful food, tasty and fresh. Quick service and friendly staff. I love the atmosphere when the windows are open in summer.
We at regulars here now.
We visited on a very hot 38 degree day, checked beforehand if venue was air conditioned (it was). Unfortunately with the back door left open and a front door continually opening and not closing properly the air conditioning struggled to be felt. Service was slow, we waited half an hour to have our orders taken while watching 3 other tables who had come in after us get served first, it took a few attempts to get their attention. The waitress was not very helpful when asked about the menu due to a language barrier. When the food arrived about an hour after we did it was very good and price is reasonable. We had to enquire about a missing dish and had three dishes we did not order delivered to us by mistake. Non English speaking kitchen staff were assisting the front of house staff who appeared overwhelmed. Front of house management and non English speaking wait staff are letting down an otherwise great restaurant.
Just your average Vietnamese restaurant. Nothing special.but I do recommend the Canh Bun.the crab cake is very good.
Dishes are moderately overpriced.
Service is usually fine.
We are a regular at this restaurant because of the friendliness of the staff and the freshness of the menu entrance can be from the street or from the Aldi car park behind. We have done they're both for dinner and for lunch
If you want great service and a no frills, delicious and genuine Vietnamese meal that hasn't caved into the whole "let's make everything more appealing to the western palate" idea then this place is perfect. Beats most places in the typical Vietnamese areas of Richmond and Footscray because gentrification has ruined those areas
Forgot items in the order and then refused to send them and pretended they couldn’t speak English. Pretty bad service.
Quick service, good pho. Pho here are quite close to vietnamese local taste, tasty broth, big portion, soft yet chewy noodles.
Ordered shredded chicken pho, rare & brisket pho (no it’s not rare, the beef is thinly sliced & cooked to medium by pouring boiling broth on top), combination spring roll & beef jerky papaya salad.
Had dinner on Saturday night 27 Aug 2022. Place was reasonably busy got a table on walk in. Ordered chicken spring rolls and san choi bao for entree, peppered beef with steamed rice and special noodle soup for mains.
The san choi bao was too big for the lettuce cup and hard to handle, use the same amount of ingredients but split into 4 lettuce cups instead of 2 would have been better. Spring rolls didn’t appear until after mains came out. Only two Asians eating in the restaurant says a lot. Food was ok. Over priced for Vietnamese food though considering the amount of other Vietnamese Restaurants in the same street.
This is going to be our new pho/viet spot in the north now. Nice and clean restaurant with friendly, helpful service.
Maybe the best BBH I've ever had. The broth was so tasty as it was for the pho we had as well.
