Outlast Timber reviews
12Great place for iron bark sleepers plus a whole lot more. Table slabs / cypress pine / over size posts / tree trunks.
Great company to deal with, always friendly and have a great range or poles and posts for my landscaping needs, cheers guys.
Exceptional service, amazing fast response, hats down guys! I have been dealing with Tim and he's been serving me with the highest professionalism someone could expect. I did changed my mind few times from the initial quote, however Tim was patient and beside this, a great advisor, too.
The timber I ordered was home delivered since the lockdown, and every piece was top quality, unlike big shops like Bunnings where click and collect timber you get is just whatever they cannot sell during public opening times.
Highly recommend this place!
I can’t believe that my veggie boxes have had 102000 views for outlast timber.
Yes on the ironbark veggie boxes are still going strong
I have used Outlast Timber for multiple projects over the last few years and am extremely impressed with their service and in particular the product knowledge.
Matt and his team have supplied me with:
Ironbark decking for a new home build
Spotted Gum decking for a renovation
Silvertop Ash (F27) for an an outdoor table & bench seats
Wine Barrels for a 30th Birthday party
Highly recommended!
Very happy with the iron bark I received from outlast timber I was even more happy with the friendly nature and knowledge of Matt.
Extremely happy with our dealings with outlast timber. They supplied an excellent quality product & assisted us throughout the process of our project. Thanks for the great help Matt it was much appreciated
Matt at Outlast was great Got all my posts in then dressed to my dimensions. Kept me in the loop with my bespoke order continually. I had an issue (not Matt’s fault - nature caused the issue) with one of my 2.6m Iron bark posts which Matt immediately arranged to have replaced when I raised it with him (including bringing it out to me). Great service.
After recently dealing with Outlast Timber, I thought I’d share some of the highlights.
Despite the claims on their website: “Outlast is now in fact Melbourne’s largest specialist supplier of durable Australian hardwoods”, their shed and yard are pretty barren – there’s a few sticks of timber here and a couple over there, but that’s it. The pictures on their website depicting huge stacks of well organised timber are not what you’ll find in-store.
The prices advertised in their pricelist aren’t what they charge. After being charged more than their pricelist prices, I raised the issue with Matt who refused to refund the overcharge and said I should have know the 6 month old pricelist on their website was no longer current and prices had since increased. After some arguing and Matt getting himself all worked up and carrying on like a complete muppet, I was refunded the overcharge. Pretty poor customer service.
Their machining capabilities to dress timber accurately are rubbish. If you want excessive snipe, chatter and a 3mm tolerance either way from the nominated dimension, Outlast Timber are the go. When I raised the issue of a 3mm tolerance, I was told the timber gets fed through the machine only once and what you get is what you get. Zero care or accountability.
There’s plenty of professional outdoor timber merchants out there, so I won’t be wasting my time dealing with these “backyarders” again.
I was very disappointed dealing with Outlast Timber and their lack of ownership, responsibility and quality control. I purchased a large quantity of wood which upon delivery contained bowed, water damaged and improperly dressed timber.
Firstly, it was highlighted to me that they do not inspect the wood delivered from their supplier before delivering it to customers (this was explicitly explained by their staff). This resulted in not once, but twice having to replace certain pieces which in turn cost me large project delays and cost.
Secondly, their default argument when questioned on the quality of their products always returned to "wood is a natural product, it has imperfections and is within tolerance". I completely understand wood moves, but the level of bowing was completely ridiculous especially for large DRESSED posts or feature boards that structurally need to be straight and were dressed only a day or 2 prior to delivery. The tradesmen on site and even Outlasts very only delivery driver were in disbelieve of the quality of product that was being delivered
I had a very challenging time convincing Outlast Timber to replace the defective products and no ownership was take on their part. It was always the fault of the supplier or mill. Apparently if you want straight, clean posts you need to explicit state this when placing an order.
I would recommend sourcing elsewhere if you are seeking quality timber and service. When highlighting to them that i will not be conducting any further business with them, they responded with "good, we don't want to do any further business with you either". Such a professional bunch.
Was told by a sales rep they would be open on the 2 of Jan - showed up, and the place is closed. Hired a trailer for the occasion ¯_ (ツ) _/¯
