Oppa Kitchen reviews
68Tried a few Korean fried chicken places in Melbourne, this one was my favourite! Great value and so so yummy
Absolutely Korean delicious dishes could be served here at Oppa Kitchen in Melbourne CBD. Very busy place, but always with seats, just the chairs are a bit tight, but here you come yo enjoy the food and many are on a quick bite to go. The Korean Kimchi Udon soup is the next level, absolutely delicious one following by classic fried chicken too. So, visit, eat, and enjoy.become a regular visitor too
Very small portion for an $18 rice bowl, the taste was average and no side dishes at all. Not a lot of options to choose from the menu.
I had sweet spicy chicken with my friends today, it was very dealicious and this place memorabled kindly staff, I will visit again
The food was really delicious yet spicy but they provide you with glass bottles of water to refill your cup for no price.
I ordered a milk soda which ended up tasting amazing and a grilled beef steak curry rice. As well as the tteokbokki chicken. It was so good.
The service was pretty good however atmosphere with the seatings was a bit squishy but to be fair the place was small.
On August 31st 2023, I did an interview with this place for my city school project and I learned so many things from it.
Thank you Oppa Kitchen!
Been having the grilled steak curry for years, never really tried anything else than that although rice cake was mediocre
Really enjoyed the pork kimchi jjigae. A really good consistency, perfect amount of spice and a generous amount of kimchi. Will definitely be back!
I can see why this place was rated lower than other Korean spots around.
The side dishes were pretty sad (only 2). Not very tasty. Seems like they’ve been around for too long.
Kimchi jigae was flavorful but the tofu tastes funky.
Only reason I came here was because two other spots were completely full and this spot has a lot of seating, even a level 2.
Also if you don’t want to pay extra, go order at the counter instead of using the QR code at the table.
Need to pay 10% surcharge on Sunday, never knew that rule before Didn’t show outside until you pay at counter.
The size is a little bit less, but enough for us.
Taste is good, also the staff were friendly.
First time going there today, and oh my goodness! It was so very good! Me and my friends got the fried chicken curry and chicken udon, those dishes were a perfect size for us 3 and taste like the best curry and udon I’ve ever had! Can’t wait to come again!
ORDERED:
Beef Bulgogi Stone bibimbap ($17.80)
? Bongbong ($3.50)
REVIEW:
Appreciate the bibimbap here at Oppa. It's got a good selection of sides like carrots, bean sprouts, radish, mushroom and more! Which makes it mixing up all the more fun.
However with the price and nature of establishment it's a bit basic. The sides aforementioned are barely seasoned, so you really make it up by dousing your dish with their mixed gochujang-based sauce.
In a hot bowl, your food comes warmer. There's also the opportunity for the rice to crisp up! My friend got the curry and unfortunately - he felt like it was cold.
Oppa is still a great affordable place to eat, down swanston street. Nothing mindblowing though.
Update 15/9/22:
Food is now average inline with some of recent reviews. Maybe under new management?
Original review:
Food is delicious, had tofu stew with rice. Portion is great and delicious. I did saw one cockroach on the wall, hopefully not in the kitchen.
Came here with two of my friends. Service was quick and friendly. We all enjoyed our food & the price was very reasonable. Would definitely come back!
My absolute favourite place to go when I come to the city, I live in melton and I go most of the time to just come here. My signature meal is the grilled pork belly on rice, seteokkbokki (probably spelt that wrong My apologies) and a coke. I could eat it all day everyday. It's absolutely amazing, it's around 30$ and very worth the price.
Can’t believe a restaurant charging for take away container? How is that possible is way too much ask for this … never come back again … used to be one of my fav Korean restaurants
Where the more affordable korean fried chicken is. For single people like me, their $9.50 fried chicken is enough. Add rice or some tteobokki then all good, done. Over the years tho, I have noticed that the serving is becoming less and/or the chicken is less on meat. Nonetheless, I’d still go back for the affordability and good single serving portion.
The location was right in the middle of Melbourne CBD, very convenient. They offer a wide range of Korean foods including street food. The price was okay, note that they have surcharge for card users.

It's nice to have a place that has classic Korean fried chicken options so accessible on Swanston St! Always delicious!
Nice cosy place right in the heart of Melbourne CBD.
Must try if you want to explore some Korean food. Not too heavy on the pocket either.
