Onsen Retreat and Spa reviews
15My daughter (11) rated her first day spa experience an 11/10.:) We had the most incredibly relaxing & nurturing treatment together.it was perfect in every way. Thank you so much for making my girl feel extra special on her birthday, & for magically somehow getting her to fall asleep! Thank you from one mother to another (two). Very grateful:) Alice Gratton.x
Not great.
Yoga session was nice, but Onsen itself very poorly run. I might have been there on an off day however: staff arrived 45mins after opening time, spa was cold and didn’t work, sauna was tepid and broken, and no staff around to do anything about it.
Outdoor hot pool was fairly tepid and dirty, hadn’t been filtered in a while. Indoor pool was cold.
Also, no robe provided and BYO towel. All felt a little tired and no one in the staff really cared about it after I spoke with them. Pretty obvious that business isn’t making any money and they are down to bare bones or keep costs down.
Went here ore-COVID and much better. Wouldn’t go again, bit disappointing for a rest day!
Roberta was amazing cannot give her enough praise, the onsen itself was lovely but out time there was ruined by other patrons, loud yelling etc. Onsen should limit the amount of people in at a time and shouldn’t allow large family groups (16 with kids) to be there with other patrons and take over the outdoor pool for over 2 hours! We had about 10 mins in the outdoor pool with peace and quiet.
Awesome. Well worth it. $49 for 2 hour bath session.
$15 for the gym, or gym included in onsen session
Treated myself to a "pekiri spa treatment" while staying at Dinner plain. It was fabulous as was my therapist Roberta. Loved the complimentary Onsen spent a wonderful afternoon there. Highly recommend it.
Amazing amazing my family ski and I dont I would rather spend the day at the spa its my go to
Highly recommend the zen experience
The Day Spa, is a beautiful place, absolutely stunning views and tranquil setting.
The owners must be that far up themselves that they are an absolute disappointment to this establishment! I'm a qualified beauty therapist myself, and even I was made to feel like a burden even as paying business!
Don't waste your time Ladies
Very bad, we went in there one day and the
desk lady was unwelcoming and stroppy. Then the next day we go there at 4: 40 and there was no one there no explanation as to why, the website said it was open. We called and no one answered so we just had to go home. So a terrible experience so far.
Lovely staff, very accommodating. We arrive 3 hours earlier than our given time and the receptionist was very helpful. The spa is small but so relaxing and the bathrooms are the best. They have their own heated pool before and after you go to the spa and a lovely sauna fitness centre and beautiful views
Paid $495 dollars for a two hour forty five minute treatment that was just under two hours and no ‘spa gift’ a shame the therapist was good however won’t go back
Massage technique is good, environment is good too. However very disappointing that we literally were swindled 30minutes worth of the massage. We booked for 8: 45am but no one told us to arrive 15 minutes early. On the day we arrive like 5 minutes later and then they started counting in all the time we change clothes and getting ready. Excuse me we dont have to pay money to get changed? ! So we paid one full hour for 2 people. And they only gave us 45min for the reason of: 15 minutes of getting changed and filling out their forms. 30min in total swindled
Whilst Dinner Plain itself is a fantastic village, this Onsen Retreat was highly disappointing.
I booked a private geisha bath with my husband via Megan (site manager). She told me to arrive 15mins before my scheduled appointment. I arrived on the dot at 5: 15pm and as we parked she rang me to say they made a mistake with my booking and that the room was preoccupied until 6: 30. We couldn’t go back home, we were 40 mins away! I don’t recal an apology but she did thank me for being accommodating.
When we got in, Megan was as cold as she was on the phone. We were told we would have to wait but can take advantage of their private relaxation room. This room was just their waiting room for guests before they begin their treatment. For an hrs wait I would have thought they’d allow us to maybe take advantage of their outdoor pool area or something.
When we were finally called to our room, I was so devastated that it was a standard massage room, with a wooden bath in the corner fit for two. As in a big bath tub, nothing huge. Yes it has two inbuilt seats but that was about as Japanese as it got. I paid $165 for 45mins for a fancy tub.
Megan said as a gift they would give us the rest of the bath salts RRP around $15. Mind you, the salts were part of our package and there was about a quarter of the bottle left after she put most of it in our tub.oh thanks Megan! How generous.
But freebies/compensation aside, the water was kinda cold or at least less than luke warm. We had to drain almost the whole tub and fill it up with hot water. Megan rushed us, she speaks and moves fast so we felt we had to run after her and rush through the process. Even afterwards when we were done, she was cleaning up the bathroom and was banging about, sighing and just not being at all friendly. She must have been in a bad mood but being around her was uncomfortable. For a place that offers relaxation and zen, I felt anything but!
We left without anyone at reception to say bye or ask us for feedback. We didn’t mind, we dropped out locker keys of and ran out of there! We felt completely ripped off. I can do a better bath experience at home to be honest! Save your money people.
Enterence and the osnsen are superb. The rest is sort of 3 star - cold spa and strange bench setup in sauna. Rotten windows and cold floor on the pool. Picture from the spa) Did not take massage, so can't comment on that.
Beautiful time at Onsen Retreat and Spa at Dinner Plain. Had a relaxing organic facial and spent the rest of my time in the hot pool. Wonderful experience! I will be back!
