One Tree Hill Picnic Ground reviews
44Really cute picnic point for family & friends on a sunny day. However you can’t take your pet friends to this point.
This is okay, there's a nice grass area, toilets and a shelter as well as a BBQ but there's nicer places in the Dandenongs to have a picnic. Don't expect any real views here.
Great place to relax, bbq and picnic area and undercover area as well toilet facilities and plenty of parking, also a remembrance shrine for those on the Kokoda track
Great picnic ground but we cannot do portable gas or charcoal BBQ. We ended up going somewhere else. I think no fire is allowed in the Dandenong areas. I hope this message helps other people to plan ahead.
After walking up all the way, we find out that we can get there by the car. But it is good we made it all the way there.
It is a broad area with many beautiful high trees. There are new toilet and many tables for picnic. A good place for family get together. You can reach there by hiking from train station through 1000 steps or by driving a car.
The loop from Tyson to Outlook and back via Chandler is about 7.8km is for avid hikers and not beginners.your elevation for the climb could be 300 m /1000 ft though gradual is hard on those with hiking fitness
Come for a barbecue stay for the view. The facilities aren't much, there is some newish built toilets which is s plus. But no play ground for kids and only a few barbecues. The real draw card here is the trails. I did the lyrebird trail from the bottom of the mountain to the picnic ground, it was intense but very rewarding. So if your looking for a challenge the park at the bottom and walk up, then walk back down and use one of yhe many barbecue facilities at the bottom instead.
Kookaburras here are a little over friendly. They aren't afraid and usually fly very near to human. Once it flew right by my shoulder and landed on my backpack. A gentle reminder to be careful if you eating. Happened yesterday when I was having sandwich, a kookaburra flew by and waited in front of me. (sorry kooka bird, it's not for sharing. Strictly no feeding to wildlife!) I took few steps back and turned around with my food out of its sight. It waited for me and finally flew away. As I was finishing, it reappeared out of a sudden and successfully snatched my few-bites-left-sandwich! Luckily it was just my hand it gently 'beaked' not my mouth lol. Shouldn't have let my guard down. What an experience:)
1000 Steps walk - lots of big trees down after the big storm which has opened up views to French Island. A strenuous walk but so good to be out again in nature without having to wear a mask
Covered areas for when it’s the weather for which the Melbourne hills are famous, open areas with plenty of vegetation and convenient parking. Perfect place to bookend bush walks with beautiful views.
Pleasant stop-off at the top of the Kokoda Memorial Walk, and great in the summer for a picnic. There's a few memorial stones, covered benches, open benches and toilet facilities. There's also a carpark for those who don't make it up the steps!
Nice place with much peach and quite. There is a beautiful picnic spot and a shelter ar the top of this hill which is really rewarding after climing the 1000 steps.
Its recommended to wear proper non slippery shoes if you plan the ascent via. 1000 steps or the tracks. Also, do carry a bit of hydration handy; I had met some newbies resting exausted on the tracks. However the climb is not too hard. 30 mins or so with a regular pace till the top.
There is drinking and toilets and disabled toilets at the top. Also, you can choose to drive till the top via.alternate route.
Lovely getaway in Dandenong.
Good place. Only thing needs to improve is the toilet facilities. It’s not that clean. I understand it’s because of peak time of this year.
Either you can reach here directly by car or after your 1000 steps walk. Perfect place to rest and relax after your long and tiring walk. There are toilets, picnic table, car parks, some spots for photograph and so on. From here you can take some walking trails to continue your trekking.
Good picnic facilities and beautiful surroundings. Well shaded and sheltered by big trees. It’s a shame that dogs are not allowed even on leash.
A small picnic ground with picnic tables and BBQs surrounded by bush. It's elevated but there's no real views.
Lots of birds and well maintained walking trails. No dogs or cats allowed, so we also saw wallabies, etc.which was fun for us.:)
Was our go to walking spot during lockdown. Never crowded, and most people observe mask-wearing requirements.
Great place for a family picnic. With clean toilets an drinking water nearby plus electric BBQ. And surrounded by many different hiking tracks
