Ondo city reviews
20I’ll never know what the food was like for lunch on this quiet weekday because once I was seated, chatted to two polite staff, and placed my order, it was forgotten about until I followed up 30mins later. Disappointed as there were several dishes I wanted to try and was looking forward to a repeat visit.
Hot chocolate was good. Service was quick and efficient. Unimpressed with some of the "high kitchen stools around a table" seating.
Awesome Korean joint in the city. I tried the barramundi set. It tasted really fresh and the portions were decent. Would come back again!
Edit: got food poisoning. In a lot of pain right now
One of the most aesthetic little cafe/restaurants that serve Korean food in Melbourne.
This has a very warm vibe to it and definitely separates you from the buzz of the city as soon as you enter.
There are so many options on the menu and also a lot of good desserts off menu in the cabinet.
Would recommend you try the pork noodles, the Kombucha, and also the tiramisu cheesecake!
The service people were very friendly and hospitable. Food was fresh and well-presented but felt a bit less for the price
We adore Ondo. With a distinctly Korean-cafe vibe, Ondo is home to a cozy but modern ambiance, friendly faces, and a dedicated menu. Specialising in home-style sets, our absolute favourites have got to be the:
Yukhoe Bibimbap
Possibly one of the best bibimbaps we’ve had in Melbourne, there is an underrated art to balance that shines here. The yukhoe (raw beef) especially is fantastic in quality and when laced through the rice makes every bite an umami, savoury delight.
Dwaeji Galbi
The KBBQ experience but abridged; this set brings together fire-kissed meat, ssam lettuce, and ssamjang. The pork neck is generous, juicy, and has a marinade that sings throughout. We order this almost every time.
Other highlights are the Yuzu Ade (of course) and the Mugwort Latte, which are fantastic with any dish. Now we aren’t fans of everything here but it’s clear there is love and attention to detail in every dish. And I guess it’s just nice to see less malatang, and more originality in the CBD.
I ordered the congee, friend got the chicken soup. Both were delicious, def worth the hype!
Had a wonderful breakfast with the family. Food is absolutely delicious, service was attentive and patient (we have a chaotic and curious toddler), and the environment was very clean and stylish.
Went for lunch and ordered the Yukhoe (raw beef) Bibimbap and the Dwaeji (pork rib) Galbi set. Foods delicious and each of the small dishes were perfect pairings to the meals. Definitely be prepared to queue after 12 on the weekend, otherwise you should be just fine.
Good ambience and food, although the noodles could use some more variety in toppings. There was a waiting list, but it moved quickly.
Loved the bibimbap set but not the pork soup, tasted so bland, pork was not done properly with still a bit of pork smell, my bf ordered the pork soup but couldn’t bear the smell so I had to switch with him.sesame latte and another korean signature latte were okay, too creamy for me, won’t be back unfortunately
We went there at around 1 pm on a Sunday and there was still a line (moves quickly), and it was still full house at around 2: 30, it surely is a popular dining spot. I love all food, including the rice and side dishes. The raw king prawn jas a good flavour balance with a touch of the lemon zest.delicious. However, if I was to pick the highlight of my meal, it would be the Black Sesame Latte. It was the best black sesame latte I had, such strong black sesame flavour, it doesn't leave you thinking you are just drinking milk with a splash of black sesame in it. Highly recommended.
10% weekend surcharge and 15% public holiday surcharge. No card surcharge.
Korean meets brunch? Say less
Ondo is definitely the place to be to find authentic Korean set lunches (similar to Japanese teishoku). The black sesame drink was real refreshing and absolutely love the pork noodle soup My friend ordered the fried chicken and that was really good too! The eggs definitely my fave in the banchan but everything else is still a solid 9/10.
Will come back again
감사합니다 ^^
The food was neat, simple, and really delicious. The foam of the Sujeonggwado Black Sesame Latte was so smooth and delicious. I highly recommend it. *^^*
Beautiful cafe serving Korean-style fare (think galbi, congee) which you can get on its own or as a set with accompanying small dishes aka banchan). Get the set - everything was so good and elegant. Definitely a different fare than the usual brunch of eggs and avo on toast. Gets pretty busy, so recommend to go early or closer towards closing time.
Good food with unique drink. If you're looking for an authentic korean meal, you must try.
Cute cafe with good food.
I really enjoyed their set menu. We came for breakfast, so I opted for the lighter meal, which was the makguksu while my friend chose tong dak (fried chicken).
The noodles were really refreshing, nutty, and flavorful. I loved how they added the crispy rice in the noodles.
The fried chicken was my favorite, though. It was well-marinated, tender, and juicy. Crispy and flavorful.
We also got cold mungbean latte and sujenggwa (ginger drink). The mungbean latte was really unique it tasted a bit like spirulina. I wasn’t really a big fan of it. I really enjoyed the ginger drink more. It tasted like gingerbread and so refreshing for summer. The right amount of sweet, too.
Great spot for casual catch-ups with your mates. The vibes are really chill and I love the wood aesthetic they have going.
I highly recommend the ginger drink really good
The flavour of the bibimbap was stronger in Armadale store. The one I tried in city has less seasoning.: (
Food - mediocre, light flavor, cheap taste,
could have been better if they season more and develop
Service - attentive, friendly
Atmosphere- nice
Dwejigalbi really hits the spot. Smokey, sweet, juicy.
But side dishes were disappointing. Worst of all, the rice I didn't think one could make rice that dry. Just any of the cheap rice cookers would have done a better job.
