Old Man Pho Highpoint - Vietnamese Restaurant reviews
16Some days 5 stars, some days 2 stars. Food quality is very inconsistent! One week we are incredibly impressed with the freshness, taste and amount – heartwarming food to the soul. Yet, the following week the food is stale, cold, the pork crackling is hard rock, beef slices are cardboard-like. Couldn't provide management feedback either as Old Man Pho website has no Contact Us or customer relations options.
The food here tasted just like in Vietnam! I was impressed that everything we ordered was delicious!
Don’t order prawn spring rolls, filled with minced carrot mainly and tinned crab meat. Very disappointing
Vermicelli bowl we’re rice noodles with very little flavour and herbs.
I ordered a large combination pho, but there were only two or three thin slices of meat, and the ingredients were much less than before, much less than other Viet restaurant near Aldi one, and the price was higher than other restaurants. No wonder my Vietnamese friend also said that after just try once only, probably not again.
Ordered the beef and beef balls pho here.actually didn’t expect pho restaurant inside a shopping centre would be this good, exceeding expectation! The broth was flavourful - just how I like my broth? And the noodles was nice and chewy too.beef balls was tender and yum! Will come try again when I’m craving for pho as it’s near to my place ️
EDIT: second visit was also a tasty pho! Although on my third visit tonight, I was pretty surprised.the pho is so bland I did ordered the large in takeaway container, in case I couldn’t finish, I’ll just take the rest away. But yea.just bland, OMG.was already craving this delicious hot pho, but was pretty disappointed when having it? The waiter was nice tho, catering to my needs everytime I asked something.he kindly enough to gave me extra soup, as maybe the soup they gave in container was not as much they could give when we order it in restaurant in the big bowl? The soup just not enough for the pho when poured, it’s like only covering 1/3 or half of the noodles. I thought the lack of soup that what causes the taste difference, but nah.it slightly helps, but still not as good as previous experiences? Hopefully just this one time And oh.not sure which one’s the correct size, but during my second and third visit, the beef balls just like a smashed version.like half round, unlike first time I tried it.still tastes good, although the size means it shrinks almost by half
Oh and they also have 10% surcharge on Saturday.perhaps Sunday too as well then.
Had our lunch here last weekend. Like the atmosphere and Viet vibe! Food was lovely, I ordered pho, pork chops with the lot and rice paper rolls. Decent in terms of price and fast service. It is located in the basement of Highpoint near the basement car parking entrance. Can be crowded during weekend.
Food was delicious and fresh. Very generous serving size. If you are craving Vietnamese food, I highly recommend.
The worker that took my order were so rude and can’t understand a word of English. And they charged 10 surcharge even though there’s no sign that saying surcharge.
Would not recommend anyone to come here.
The food is good, however customer service and time taken for food is getting ridiculous. 20 mins while its busy sure, but 15 minutes for a banh mi when theres only 2 other people in the restaurant is a bit ridiculous
I have been eating at this Old Man Pho many times. Whenever I go shopping at High Point. The customer services is great a d food is delicious.
There was a hair in the meatball and when shown to the chef he tried to deny it. Hostess was nice and sorted a refund but whilst she was at the till refunding, the chef came out the kitchen to stand directly next to her to intimidate me.
The chicken pho is pretty good. Better than my expectation. Chicken broth very clear but full of flavor. Never try beef but I'm happy to stick with chicken
I ordered the beef pho. I asked if it came with all the sides and sauce which I was told it did. When I got home there was no sauce to add to the broth or bamboo shoots that you would normally get. The beef was not rare and it had so much fat on it which is not usual for beef pho. There were pieces of what I assume were beef balls. Attached a photo of the fat and beef ball. I was also charged extra as they apply a weekend surcharge which they didn't tell me about. I got the large pho which in Sydney would be the same size for $12, mine was almost $20. Don't waste your time go to rolled & pay $14.50
I ordered a bowl of noodles, sat there for 20 minutes, then I asked staff how much llonger should I wait for my food they said don't have enough ingredients to make it very bad service
Had the braised Pork Belly on rice, pork chop on rice and vermicelli chicken salad. Very good food and large portions.
I took the family to have lunch here on a weekday. It was not too busy so you will definitely be able to get a table.
We ordered the beef ball pho, combination pho, pork and prawn rice paper rolls, spicy beef noodles and an avocado smoothie.
The pho options here are very simple, so if you are after beef tendons, tripe and all that Old Man Pho will not satisfy your cravings.
The pho here is no asian fusion, it does hold the authentic Vietnamese pho flavours, it can't be compared to the pho you get in Footscray but if you want something close by this is the place to be!
The rice paper rolls were very average there was nothing special about them. The smoothie contained too much milk and sweetener (condensed milk?) than avocado.
Most disappointing of all was the spicy beef noodles. It is very different to what I am used to. Thin rice vermicelli noodles were used instead of the original ones - they a slightly thicker, the flavouring was just not there.
But the pho is worth trying!
