Old Beechworth Gaol

Our tour was amazing, heaps of information surrounding the Gaol and surrounds. I recommend the last tour of the day, they take their time.

Our guide Graham was fantastic and shared the history of the gaol over the 1 hour tour with lots of great humour and stories. Definitely check it out!

Took the guided tour which went for about one hour. There were times when it was a bit harder to hear the tour guide.
The tour is interesting. The only disappointment is that we didn’t get much time after the tour to view the place as we were rushed to leave. Maybe it was because the next guided tour group was starting. As we spent over $85 for a family of five it would have been better if there was more time allowed for actually explore the place.
We also didn’t buy tickets online. At the end it was a bit cheaper to get tickets from there as they don’t have child tickets online. Will be better to call them and inform the time of the tour you are planing to attend to, so you’ll not be disappointed if it’s sold out.

It was extremely exciting to listen to the guide who was informative. Recommend this to history buffs for sure.

Tour was an hour long it costs $28 an adult with discounts for concession holders. It takes you through the goal with our guide highlighting the history in a very animated way. We thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely grab a coffee afterwards in the airstream caravan on site!

Excellent bike shuttles for the Indigo Epic Trail. Easy to book online and Ryan took great care of us. Highly recommend!

This tour is amazing! So interesting and well worth the money. Our guide Chris was entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend visiting the Old Gaol in beautiful historic Beechworth.

I am only reviewing the cafe as I actually have not done the Gaol tour. It was in the middle of Covid and there was a challenge with staff and being forced to close sporadically so the range of food and cakes wasn’t standard. The food was ok but not the best. I think when Covid has passed the men range and food quality will improve. I would recommend a visit here as the grounds are spectacular and the trees and outdoor seating is relaxing and splendid.

Had a look around the outside the front of the building but didn't go on a tour at the time. Well maintained building. Cafe onsite too. Interesting building.

Our guide was very informative and well practised with his entertaining spiel. Certainly know more about the Kelly gang and their demise than we did previously. Cafe has good coffee too.

Quite an impressive tour which happens at scheduled times. Numbers are limited due to COVID at 40 people so it might be sold out if you rock up 5 minutes before the tour starts. Tickets are 18.50 and can be purchased from a small cafe which sells cakes and reasonable coffee which is a good problem if you come early. During school holidays they had tours at 11,12 and 1 with each tour taking a little under an hour. Some info on the Kelly gang is also included.

A very worthwhile experience for Beechworth visitors. The tour guide on my tour was humorous and informative. Interesting site to visit.

Only accessible by paying for the tour, which may be priced a little steeply for some. Hosts are very knowledgeable and the history of the gaol, operational up until as recently 2004, is fascinating.

Was really looking forward to this tour and researched all over to make sure it was dog friendly as we had our 2 dogs with us. Multiple reviews advised that they were allowed to take their dogs so so we headed there. Upon arrival we were told that the tour is not dog friendly. When I pointed out the couple that were directly opposite us with their dog the lady at the cafe said "Oh that's fine, their dog is small and they will be holding it throughout the tour". How is this fair? I have a small and large dog and neither were allowed in. Very disappointed with this and will not return.

Such an awesome place filled with history and fascinating stories of Australia's history. Our tour guide was really thorough and interesting, yet succint in his explanations. The tour was so good that we drove to other notable places related to the prison. A must go in Beechworth.
