Old pub in need of renovation but very friendly and relaxed atmosphere with great staff. This pub is like the old fashioned friendly pubs of yesteryear. If you don’t care about tired old carpet and paintwork this is a great pub. Huge beer garden. They didn’t even ask us to leave at closing time.

Absolutely horrendous food. I ordered salt and pepper squid with vegetables. Vegetables were coated with Grease, carrot was burnt black, a third of the chips were green so unable to eat them and the salt and pepper squid was deep fried for about half an hour too long. And to top it all off there was a big piece of baking paper in with the vegetables. Other family member ordered an entree and a main that came out straight after each other……. In the time it took her to walk back to the kitchen, pick up the main meal, and then walk back to our table and put it down. To say that the meals was substandard is a gross understatement. They need to get rid of the so called “cook” and hire an actual chef. Our table of eight diners, only three of them said their meal was ok, and two of whom were children with fish and chips, and one very easy to please adult that had a burger.

Went there with extended family tonight. Three of us had porterhouse steak, and all three of them were rough. Lots of gristle in each one, but no point complaining because they already know what quality of meat they are buying. I would have much preferred to pay an extra $6 (making it $36) and had a nice steak.

Great friendly pub to kick in with friends or spend the night in the gardens and then shoot a round of pool

Wangaratta is my home town but I moved 15 years ago, the north eastern hotel aka The Northo is one place I still makes sure I visit while I am in town has amazing food and quite a few delicious vegetarian choices. It's a must in town

Walked in at 2.25 pm and the kitchen closed at 2 pm. Waitress said they could make us a snack - which we were happy with. However the chef came out and offered to make us whatever we wanted. Great food presented with a smile.

Came here for a quick drink while waiting for the train, since it's just opposite the station.

Top notch parma, chips and veg, mate had the porterhouse and was also impressed. Look forward to returning next time I'm in town.

Foods not bad but also not anything to get excited about. I like the outdoors bit in the summer but besides that it's pretty unremarkable. If I had to describe it as a colour, it would be beige. Not good or bad. Just there.

My meal was good but beef was so grissley, service good.
Told staff meal flavour was very good but poor quality meat, reply i will tell the chef.the end.
The chef would have already known meat was poor but covered it in sauce. Sorry but wont be going back.

Food is gooooood! Drinks could be a bit cheaper and the beer garden is lovely but would be even better with a little make over to the stage and outside bar:)

The porterhouse steak that was served was cooked to perfection and presented perfectly. Highly recommended!

Very slow service, no personality from bistro waitress, almost looked like she was forced to be there. Bar tender was good, given was only person serving two bars and bottleshop

Wow. I came for lunch on a Wednesday 25/09/2019 and the Chicken Schnitz burger and chips were PHENOMENAL. The burger had the perfect amount of aioli, the buns were fresh, the lettuce and tomato were fresh, the cheese was nicely melty, the chicken schnitzel itself was lovely (cooked well, crispy and perfect size) and the chips were above average - hardly any dud chips (a dud chip is a solid, stocky chip with no crisp). Also the ratio of chips was perfect. The staff were polite and friendly, the meal came out within 10 minutes of ordering and the outdoor area had a nice ambience. I've passed over the Northo based on a not-so-great experience a year or so back, but based on today's food, it is completely redeemed. This is easily my favorite restaurant in town now and based on this meal I will definitely be back for lunch. 5/5. Well done:)

Wish I had discovered this somewhat hidden gem sooner. Service, food and all aspects were excellent. Will certainly return on future visits to Wangaratta.

Nice pub, with beer garden and nice restaurant. The staff here are quite good and polite, there are many selections of alcoholic beverages available. The restaurant is slightly small however there is more seating outdoors. This is a great place to visit in summer to enjoy the beer garden. The food is good, typical pub meals. The layout of the building let's this place down a bit as there are many obstacles that could be removed to make this place more welcoming. I have always enjoyed myself here however I am not a fan of this venue and I feel there are better places in town to enjoy.
