Ngon Restaurant Vietnamese and Asian Cuisine reviews
49Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, and phenomenal food as well, not to mention very generous portion sizes. Will definitely be coming back!
The absolute best Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne. We always order take away from here when we can’t be bothered cooking and are never dissapointed. The Bahn mi is out of this world. Quail is also one of our favourites.
Best Vietnamese food we've ever had, great little find. Went 2 days in a row. Our new favorite restaurant. Fresh very tasty food. Highly rate the duck and fried rice, quail and XO combination. Very friendly attentive staff, clean restaurant to, great for a romantic dinner, dinner with friends, parties, families with children. 10/10 stars from us
This vietnamese restuarant has done well for the location it's in. Hand painted mural on one side of the restuarant with it leading to a yellow wall on the other side which lightens up the place. Lanterns light up the ceiling.
Banh xeo.
Excellent balance of flavours. There was a good mix of vegetable, meat and pancake. We've never had roasted pork in this dish, but it was a great choice. It was tender and juicy with a crispy skin.
Beef pho cooked in 12 HR broth.
Tender meats and well cooked soft noodles. The both was well flavoured and accompanied with a bowl of fresh mint and bean shoots.
Five spice tofu rice paper rolls.
Compact with a load of sliced tofu and well cooked vermacelli. The hoison peanut dipping sauce is a perfect match.
Iced lychee.
Today was hot so this drink was extra refreshing. Think of a slurpee-like texture except a sweet lychee flavour and real fruit.
Vietnamese white iced coffee.
Loaded with crushed iced that melts well with the strong coffee.
Fried icecream.
Shredded coconut batter that is well deep fried with icecream that isn't too hard.
This vietnamese restaurant is a recommended place to go to if you're looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisines.
Sadly the worst Vietnamese food my partner and I have ever eaten. The fried greens had absolutely no flavour. Couldnt taste oyster/fish/hoi sin sauce or any garlic at all. The tough lamb shank was cooked separately to the green curry it sat in, which had the consistency of water. Finally, the mie goreng wasn’t really a mie goreng, or enjoyable.
I love Vietnamese food for a lot of both when ordering and throughout treasons, but predominantly because it's fresh, diverse, and has plenty of vegetarian options. I found all of these things true when dining at Ngon, which serves simple and wholesome Vietnamese fare in Highett. I dined in on a Sunday evening after a very long weekend, so I couldn't pass up an iced coffee. Ngon's was strong and perfectly sweet and large enough to share. It was the perfect primer for the feast to come.
There are plenty of meatless options at Ngon as well as ones that can be customised to be so. I started with spiced tofu rice paper rolls, which were veggie heavy and served with an extra crunchy peanut sauce. I couldn't decide between the Buddha's Pot or the red curry so I tried both and was so glad I did. The first came in a light black bean sauce and had plenty of chewy mushrooms while the second was richer and featured predominantly potatoes and cauliflower. They were both wonderful scooped up with bites of tofu and egg fried rice (which was refreshingly light in oil). The final dish on the table was the tofu slaw, which brightened everything up and added just the crunch I was looking for.
In addition to tasty food, Ngon has lovely staff who made me feel really well looked afterhe meal. They even encouraged me to take my leftovers home, which made the perfect lunch the next day.
You know this place is good when its bursting at the seams on a Wednesday night! The decor is simple but welcoming, and the food is fresh, tasty and are great serving sizes. I ordered the beef, chicken and spring roll Vermicelli, and it was so tasty! Would definitely recommend! Be sure to ask for a side of chilli oil
Ngon is the place to get amazing Vietnamese cuisine in Highett! Run by a lovely Vietnamese couple, they’re serving up amazing dishes that’ll sate any appetite, like VFC - crispy crunchy Vietnamese fried chicken, or the succulent roast duck, and banh xeo (crispy Vietnamese crepes) - wash it all down with a sofa chanh - a traditional Vietnamese soft drink! Definitely the place in Highett to hit up for Vietnamese!
We visited Ngon Vietnamese in Highett for a casual and relaxing date night They have quite an elaborate menu with influences from Vietnamese, Malaysian, Thai and chinese cuisines. We started with drinks - iced lychee and vietnamese iced tea perfect for a walk spring night. As a starter we got the Banh Xeo (vietnamese pancake with bbq pork and prawn filling) where you wrap in lettuce and add other condiments before eating. Absolutely delicious!
As for our mains we got the housemade chicken green curry served in a claypot and also the crispy pork hock with sticky sweet tamarind sauce.
Finishing this great meal with fried ice cream, which brought back so many memories as my mum use to order one for me every time we went out!
