Nam Giao reviews
31We loved Bun Bo Hue, pork spring rolls, pork vermicelli salad there. Crab pho and hainanese chicken was also very good. Generous portion.
Great spicy Bun Bo Hue soup, great flavour and lots of meat and great smiling service. Manager and staff very friendly and made me welcome.
We are regulars here for Bun Bo Hue. We have eaten the same dish in Perth recently, Sydney and in Vietnam and here they have the best. Very healthy, huge bowl and just delicious.
A lesser known Vietnamese restaurant in Springvale and certainly a hidden gem that should not be ignored. Very clean restaurant with friendly service. Menu items are displayed in big pictures around the restaurant. There is a limited menu and all dishes are done well!
I consider the bun rieu here (crab noodle soup - $16.00) to be gold standard in Springvale. The soup is deliciously crabby and the home made pork mince balls are both tender and full of flavour. Make sure you use the strimp paste as a dip for extra umani.
Using Doordash, Nam giao is nearly the same price as in store (about $1.00 extra), so a quick delivered dinner is always on the table for me!
I recently visited Nam Giao, a Vietnamese restaurant at Unit 3/218-220 Springvale Rd, Springvale, Victoria, Australia. In search of a quick lunch on my own, I decided to try their renowned dish, Bun Bo Hue. The restaurant's specialty in Vietnamese cuisine piqued my interest.
Upon entering, I couldn't help but notice the dated and run-down ambience. The atmosphere seemed somewhat uninspiring, and my first impression was tainted further by the poor and slow service I experienced throughout my visit. The anticipation for my meal was heightened due to the extended wait time.
However, the disappointment in the service was compensated somewhat by the well-presented and fresh plate of Bun Bo Hue that finally arrived. The presentation of the dish reflected the care put into its preparation. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the table left much to be desired, as it was noticeably sticky.
As for value for money, I found it to be average. The limited menu variety and accommodations were a letdown, and the lack of options further marred the overall experience. On a positive note, the restaurant offered complimentary Chinese tea in a thermos flask, a slight touch that added warmth to an otherwise chilly experience.
My primary recommendation for Nam Giao would be to consider dining here only if you have ample time to spare. I waited for a staggering 35 minutes before my meal was finally served, which significantly impacted my overall enjoyment of the visit. The disappointment stemming from the extensive wait time certainly coloured my review with a tone of frustration.
In conclusion, Nam Giao left me with mixed feelings. While the well-prepared Bun Bo Hue offered a glimpse of the restaurant's potential, the dated atmosphere, poor service, and cleanliness left much to be desired. For those willing to exercise patience, Nam Giao might hold promise; otherwise, exploring other dining options in the area might be worth exploring.
Used to love the Bun Bo Hue here but the quality has been quite inconsistent over the last few months. Hope they can heat up their soup a little hotter too as no one deserves a lukewarm soup during winter time.
We waited for almost 30 mins for our food. Other people who came before us got there food already. Restaurant wasn't even busy. Ridiculous! 1st time trying this restaurant and I won't be going back.
It' so so so good. For me, this Bun Bo Hue is better than in Vietnam. The best Bun Bo Hue I've had.
Still the BEST bun Bo hue in all of Victoria. I always end up drinking all the broth. It's fricken amazing. Have to try if in Springvale. He makes the broth fish cakes and the chilli oil.
The Bun bo hue here is one of those dishes if you know your on death row it's on of the last meals you would want. I dare anyone to come here and try and say otherwise.
Vietnamese food cooked beautifully and affordable. Gotta try their $15 mains! What’s not to love about it? !
Their soups are just great. Lots of fresh herbs and bold flavours we couldn’t get enough of.
We ordered:
Bún Riêu (Vietnamese Crab Noodle Soup)
Bún Bò Huê (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup)
? Crispy Chicken w/ Broken Rice (Finn’s favourite)
? Prawn & Pork Spring rolls
Chè Ba Màu (Thee Colour Dessert)
Bún Riêu was the best I’ve tried and it’s my new favourite Vietnamese soup. ️
Bún Bò Huê had a beautiful lemongrass flavour, we could eat it for days. Noodles were cooked perfectly.
Chicken w/ broken rice was Finn’s dish. He loved the chicken, he even ate the skin.
We were so busy stuffing our faces, we forgot to take pictures of the spring rolls. Crispy and decent amount of filling inside.

I am very picky with the taste of Vietnamese food, and have to say their bun Bo hue is just delicious! Lots of lemon grass flavours in it.
Still the BEST bun Bo hue in all of Victoria. I always end up drinking all the broth. It's fricken amazing. Have to try if in Springvale.

I visit this small restaurant in Springvale very frequently. It is quite honestly the best and most consistently good bun bo hue you’ll find! The broth is so tasty and hearty, this bowl of BBH comes with pork trotter and blood clot too. The mix of fresh herbs and vegetables gives the dish a very nice crunch and flavour. The bunrieu is good too but nothing beats the BBH!
One word YUM YUM YUM! Great variety, budget, cheap eats and value for money! " My " GO TO " Vietnamese restaurant in Springvale.
Been here every fortnight or at least once a month for bun Bo hue. Usually order two bowls eat on or take away. Very tasty and authentic. Been to many around that do not specialist in this dish and lack the subtle hints of the traditional Middle of Vietnam dish. Owners are nice. This was my go to during covid for an easy lunch or dinner. Actually sometimes breakfast!
I usually eat here once a week or so, consistent bun bo hue over the times I've had it, taste delicious and very warming.
Delish vietnamese noodles if you want something different to pho. Select dishes and they are done very well. Yum. Will comeback.
The best and most consistent Bún Bò Húê in Australia! Really, don't bother with any other restaurants cos you're just wasting your time.
The Bún Riêu isn't bad either!
Nam Giao is best known for its Bun Bo Hue and our latest excursion there was no exception. You get a huge bowl of tangy flavoursome broth, topped with lots of meat slices and a thick slice of pork trotter. Stir in the fresh vegetables and you have a hearty and satisfying meal. Highly recommended.
