Murtoa Stick Shed reviews
30It was fascinating to see the huge stick shed, and absorb the history of why and how it was built. I’m glad they didn’t demolish it.
We were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves
I recommend you read the history and watch the short video to appreciate the work that went into this creation
Magnificent awe-inspiring place! When you consider what was done in the time frame it would be impossible today.
Well worth going. A guide takes you into the shed & tells the story of how it was built. Also had local art work on display.
Must be seen to be believed! An amazing artefact from a terrible time in our recent history. The shed covers four hectares and must be seen in person as a camera cannot do it justice. The kids may find it a little difficult to stay focused, but they can run around you while you work your way down the length of the shed.
Not to be missed. Great Australian story and unique building that is not to be missed. Glad it has been listed as an historic building. Don't go to Central Victoria or do the silo trail without visiting the Stick Shed in Murtoa. Staggering.
A piece of Australian heritage truly well preserved as its the only one of its kind still left of the 29 that were built. Used for grain storage during world War 2 when there were no grain exports.
A piece of Victoria and Australia’s history being preserved. A credit to the skill and ingenuity of ordinary men nearly eighty years ago! An honour to be able to see it!
This is a must see.the hard work that was put into this with people power not machinery.makes you say WOW.built in 1942 on a hot summers day.read all the posts and see how much material has been put into this structure.
Wow factor reigns supreme! Most fol might spend 15 minutes, but pwe dallied 45 minutes taking in all the video stories and traversing the nooks and crannies.
Loved this place. A great story behind its build and great video. Lovely volunteers running the entry and gift shop too. Highly recommend a visit if in the area
Awesome piece of Australian history. If you're close to Murtoa make sure you drop in for a look
Fantastic and unusual building/shed.
I hope the state or federal Gov. Put money in to its preservation. Congratulations to all that keep it alive.
The last time I was in the Murtoa Stick Shed was the mid 1960's when it had massive heaps of wheat in it. My Grand Parents and other family lived in and around Murtoa. I feared the shed would be demolished in the "Wrecking Ball" 1970's. What an amazing structure it is and it's hard to believe they built it in 1941 with limited resources and in a lightning fast time. A highly recommended visit.
Very interesting part of Australia's farming and grain history. Amazing that it was built in about 4 months.
An amazing building for storing wheat that was built in 1941.250 metres long and held up with 550 sticks and it only took 4 to 5 months to build. Highly recommended to go see, plan it on with the silo art trail.
We've been there a couple of times now and if you want to know the history of the Stick Shed it's worth the while taking a guided tour.
Very well done.
Great place to visit a relic of the past, built in 1941 in four months to hold wheat that couldn't be exported due to the war.
Great place the history side is unbelievable and interesting
Its mind boggling to think they built it by hand
