Brilliant, just brilliant. The knives are amazing, better than brand new. I really appreciate your work. Thank you very much.

5 star all the way! Thanks Scott for sharpening all of my Barbering tools, they cut like brand new again. Great friendly service. I would highly recommend him to any business looking to have their tools of the trade sharpened.

I have been using Mr Sharp for years. Makes your knives like razers and always arrives when suits you best.

The mobile knife sharpening service came round and sharpened a selection of tools, pocket and kitchen knives.

I'm most happy with the results of my kitchen knives which both look good and have remained sharp.

I'm unimpressed with the results on some of the pocket knives, especially ones with particularly hard/exotic/modern steels like S30V/S110V/M390.

I believe he uses either a belt grinder or a wheel to do the sharpening, I'm going to assume that there's no water cooling of the blade being done as i've got blades with heat-discoloration along the edge of them.

I'm also unimpressed with the use of a polishing wheel on folding pocket knives. The use of this polisher means I have to then disassemble all my knives to get the cotton/polishing compound out from inside the mechanism after which adds to the time.
In addition, the casual usage of a polishing wheel also means that surface finishes such as etched pattern welded steel (damascus), TiN and other coatings are removed/faded out and would need to be re-etched/re-coated. Not terribly impressed with that and no warning was given regarding that outcome. I'm also concerned about the heat generated from this type of polishing operation might change the tempering of the blade.

The owner is unfamiliar with various types/grades of steels and the various nuances around them and made broad sweeping statements about different knives based on his (lack) of knowledge.

Costs are relatively high for knife sharpening, approximately $20 per knife give or take. It sounds like the cost can be anything, but there's no indication that more money spent = better quality from what I observed.

If I was told it'd cost $60 an hour to hand sharpen my favorite knife with a series of whetstones to a mirror finish I'd happily say take your time. If I was told you'd hit it with a belt sander and a polishing wheel for $20 I'd probably pass.

So in summary. Happy with the results for knives like kitchen knives, Swiss army knives and the like, less happy with the results from modern knives that form part of a collection. Tool results, also great and no complaints there either.

Are my tools and knives sharp? Yes!
Have they stayed sharp? Yes!
Does Scott (?) seem like a nice guy? Yes!
Does Scott (?) talk about things he's not an expert in? Yes!
Is the price reasonable? Depends.
Do I recommend knife collectors or enthusiasts concerned about their exotic blades use this service? No.

Extremely impressed with how sharp my knives have returned to. They're like new again! Great to communicate with and flexible in time to attend plus provided some great tips to help keep the knives at the top of their game between his visits. Thanks!

Scotty did a great job. My knives are like a set of surgical scalpels. He even repaired a broken knife like new. Highly recommended. Very reasonable pricing too and a nice bloke.

I've had my knives done 2 times because i thought it might have been a mistake and didn't want to leave a bad review. I was wrong. Both time the sharpening was done nicely but in a very shallow way, which means the knife works fine for 1 or 2 days and then it is back to what it was. Also, you have to ask to get it done very sharp 1 or 2 times already. Not happy with the service. This is for the mobile service.

Called Scott specifically to sharpen my cut throat razor and I was not disappointed. He also sharpened our kitchen knives as well as a pair of scissors. Scott was punctual, polite and also provided me a lesson on how to hone my cut throat razor. Will definitely call him again and highly recommend his services. Chris, from Lalor.
