Mr Hendricks reviews
60Everyone has a local and this is ours! The coffee is consistent and the menu has a range of unique options (ebi katsu sando being my favourite!). The majority of staff are welcoming and attentive and the cafe itself offers a beautiful outdoor courtyard with heating
One of our staff went there the receipt was $16.10 which included the 1.9% surcharge. $18.14 was actually taken out of our account. A difference of $2.04!
Tucked away on Whitehorse Rd at the end of the Balwyn shops, this is a go-to place for some excellent coffee
That's amazing! What a cozy atmosphere in the outdoor seat. I love the Unagi Benedic indeed!
The food is still good, but it’s a pity that the corkage fee is too high. In the end, I didn’t drink a bottle of white wine brought by a friend. I saw the owner’s reply, so I’ll add a little. The main thing is that we only drink for 2 people. You let Other women who don't drink also pay the same fee, which is a bit vicious. It's not fun. I followed the rules and didn't drink at the end. A bottle of Chardonnay brought from California, USA
Sadly I think this cafe is trading off the original name and reputation, when the cost of eating out is increasing cafes need to be at the top of their game and unfortunately Mr Hendricks doesn't come close. The eggs were overcooked along with the prices, however I will say the service was good but to add insult to injury they have a 1.9% surcharge on cards.a very underwhelming experience and one not to be repeated.
The menu had changed since the last time I visited and wasn't as appealing. I was appalled when I realised they added a 10% Weekend Charge plus a 1.9% credit surcharge to the bill. A mediocre orange juice cost $8.50. Daylight robbery.
Superb cafe in Whitehorse area
The Long black: very excellent standard
The interior: beautiful and decorative
Badly disappointed with the quality of the food and drinks. The hot chai latte is lukewarm, strawberry milkshake is watery, the taste of both udon with tonkatsu and scrambled mushroom were blend. No chopsticks? For the udon. First time ever I used fork to eat udon. The table is sticky.
Super friendly staff ;) Had the curry cauliflower crispy eggs and ebi Sando. Nice and punchy flavour.
The staff are friendly. There have large dinning area just at the back of the house. The hot cake taste differently, especially the texture, a little bit crispy outside but puffy and soft inside. The prawns sandwich is large protion.
Lovely cafe. Had a great coffee and lunch catch-up here midweek. Food was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful!
Nice cosy cafe on a drizzly cold winters day. The muffin was warm and delicious. My teens loved the chicken burger and hot chocolate.
This cafe used to be amazing. It's under new management and sadly the standard of food has gone down and the prices have gone up. I am used to going out for brunch in Melbourne but the prices, taking into the weekend surcharge, are comical. Coffee is average.
Sat outdoors on a rainy day but it’s all warm and cozy the fried chicken in the burger is surprisingly not greasy and ngl it’s quite good
Excellent meals, each one has something a bit unique and different, beautiful presentation, delicious. Good service, very busy so a bit of a delay for meals but they kept our drinks topped up. Great for brunch and lunch
This was a recommendation. I started with a matcha tea, then had a southern fried chicken burger with sweet potato chips.it was absolutely delicious. Will go again, and highly recommend this cafe. Staff were polite and attentive too.
This morning I went to brunch with my friend, who took her dog with her. Her dog was a large size dog, we admit, however she has had brunch at Mr Hendricks with her dog before, sitting outside, with no issues. This morning her dog got a bit excited when he saw me, and the staff said "I am sorry, but the dog is too big for here".
We noticed that there were kids sitting outside and we didn't argue further, my friend had decided to take her dog back and come back to have brunch with us. We could have left or changed places, but we didn't, we understood the situation.
When we came back WITHOUT the dog, we heard the waiter speaking to another waitress in our very own language that "They had a big dog and I KICKED THEM OUT. 我把他们赶出去了。“ We were horrified with the attitude and words chosen, however we had plans afterwards, and we did not argue or leave.
We are reasonable people, and the food at this place is reasonable. The attitude of the staff is UNACCEPTABLE. If we either argued or insisted to have her dog here, we would accuse ourselves or causing problem for others. @Management, it is our suggestion that your staff keeps personal feelings to themselves, we may have caused 1-2 minutes of inconvenience, but there was no reason to use such words.
Thank you.
High prices for basic breakfast options. Service was terrible and waited one hour for just eggs on toast. Charged extra for items ordered that the cafe “ran out of” and they didn’t take it out of the bill. Wouldn’t give us the reciept the first time we asked. Wouldn’t come back here again and don’t recommend.
Food was absolutely amazing, staff were lovely and it was very quick service!
Something was very wrong with the coffee today, it tasted like chemicals or soap. We couldn’t finish it.
Now I’m home and both myself and my partner are very unwell. Not sure what happened but we won’t be risking it again.
