Mount Macedon Hotel

Great dinner at the Macedon Hotel. New Chef has taken honest pub fare to a whole new level. All the classics executed superbly and the service from the friendly staff is exemplary.

Full busload of people arrived, no one to serve the locals, bus people jumping the queue for drinks. After 10 minutes gave up and left. Won't be back. This is not how functions are run, there should be dedicated staff for the group. Just appalling service. Not the first time we've had bad service here, should have learned our lesson by now!

Had a great lunch with a group called Chirpyplus today. Food was great, staff were great and just loved the old pub atmosphere when it in the bar. The room we had was great but the fire wasn't going because the chimney needed cleaning. Lol it did give us privacy for 12 of us there. But next time, I'll make sure we are out in the bar area as it seemed to have much more atmosphere to it.

There is not to many places i would give a 1 star rating until i come here for lunch with a group today. The only reason i am given it a 1 star today is my chicken schnitzel lunch.
We ordered 2 jugs of beer and wanted a 3rd after lunch and the service was absolutely disgusting and walked out of there really disappointed like you wouldn't believe.
Today is the first time i have been to this place and i PROMISE, IT WILL BE THE LAST TIME I EVER COME BACK EVER AGAIN. Not forgetting to mention how many other members of the group were also DISAPPOINTED with their meals for the price they paid. How could a basic normal hamburger not be on the menu FFS. NOT EVERYONE IS BLOODY VEGAN YEAH! Oh yeah and one more thing i forgot to mention, the toilets are totally putrid.
Couldn't even get mash with any meal what so ever. MY PARTNER GOT FISH AND CHIPS AND GOT A WHOLE HEAP OF BATTER WITH CHIPS AND SALAD.

Just had a fabulous lunch. A traditional style local pub, food was great and staff were magnificent/attentive and a lot of fun to deal with. As a cold day the open fire was great and local wine selection was good. We have been coming here for years, Mt Macedon is fabulous on a winters day and we enjoy it most years. Keep up the great work.

A beautiful Father’s Day lunch today! Gorgeous beer, lovely champagne and the meals and service were amazing! We had chicken schnitzel, crispy skin salmon, arancini, pizza and everything was just gorgeous. Sunshine was streaming through the window and we went for a walk in the gardens afterwards and patted the resident donkey. Wonderful in every single way!

You can't call yourself a pub- if you don't have any beer to serve!
Nice day, walk in after a nice day expecting to have a nice glass of beer- partner asks for an Asahi which is listed on the chalkboard "sorry its out", righto. "just a draught", "sorry don't have that either".
"Riiiight.what do you have? ". The guy behind the bar who looked school aged looked very awkward. "uhm a golden ale". My partner says ok. I ask for a ginger ale. Flat as a pancake!
We take our beers outside, lovely spot- have menus with us thinking maybe we could eat there- very quickly we decided against after visiting the bathrooms which neither had toilet paper, there was poo covering the seat in one and the other had wee all over the floor and mud.
What a poor excuse for a pub that used to be great.
Did I mention it was dead? 2 other people there at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon.

On our way to Hanging Rock for Nick Cave's gig tonight, so we thought to stop over at the Mt Macedon Hotel. When we arrived the kitchen just closed but the bar tender spoke to the chef who end up cooking a tasty chicken parma for the two of us. Thanks so much for your team effort! We'll be back again

Very grubby, only toilets working were down wet muddy stairs outdoors. Inside was also grubby. $95 for five bowls of chips and a ginger ale.

I've gone to the Mt Pub for a long time and I'm sad to say it was pretty disappointing. The Staff were very basically trained in my opinion. Our waitress took our order then didn't put our tables entrees in, even after she read back our whole order (2 entrees, 4 mains, 4 drinks) to us.
My battered rockling was undercooked and I couldn't eat it, soggy batter, undercooked fish.
The waitstaff did not seem to have been trained well, which was a shame. Our table wasn't set properly on arrival, with missing cutlery, plates & napkins. If they had some decent managers, direction & training they may be able to turn things around. I'm hoping they can.

What a DUMP! Pizza was undercooked, just whole raw tomatos thrown on top, only mid strength they had was flat as it was the end of the keg, but the staff either couldn't be bothered or didn't have a fresh keg to change over, $13 for a flat pint of beer, yummo!
it's like the staff have just accepted that the place has nothing in stock and just dont care anymore.my brother was told they'd been using lemon squash for a lemon lime bitters for 3 days because there was no lemonade, maybe go to the shop and buy some then?

A great location and building, but they really struggle with service when there is any sort of crowd. Worth a visit though.

The pizza has to be tried, something as simple as a pepperoni pizza, was absolutely amazing. The base, just omg

Guinness on tap. Always got a good range of tap beers/stouts/porters.

Good for winter with a fireplace inside or sit in the outside courtyard in spring or summer

Location, dining area and interactions with staff were positive. However, we waited over 30 minutes for dessert and were told this was due to them being busy; during this time we saw other guests enter, order, eat and leave. Further, the portion size for a $20 dessert was pretty disappointing.

Just what you'd hope for in a country pub. Great food, service and atmosphere. The open fire was an additional delight!

Food was really good, they've got a great range of drink and beer on tab.
Staff are very polite.

Very mediocre 1980's food quality. Chronically understaffed. Poor and rude service. Shame as the area could have a lovely restaurant with great staff but it's a waste of time eating here.

Very busy place. Please check your orders carefully, my son was left hungry. We ordered four meals and got only three of them… all in different times (which is quite strange for the family), after asking why we didn’t get fourth meal we were told that kitchen is already closed. Yes, we got the refund but the situation was very disappointed.
