Monarch Cakes reviews
75Today I had kooglhoupf (mini koogle). I must say My lovely husband brought me to another fabulous place for a dessert treat. Absolutely amazing cake, undoubtedly the best cake on Acland Street. Other cakes are good but not as this much. THERE IS A HUGE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. But overall experience was good.
Called the shop numerous times to find out if they had a particular cake/slice on the day, but no answer. Walked into the shop and the staff were unfriendly and in their own world. Went to Espresso 96 instead where they have better tasting, fresher cakes and where it's more reasonably priced. Even with hungover staff at Espresso 96, they were still friendly and approachable.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The French vanilla dessert had the best pastry cream I've ever had in my life. I'll be talking about it for years!
Grumpy old coote serving up attitude. Dirty tables and very average coffee. Won't ever be back to this place.
Such a a special and old place. You can see that nothing has been changed both in terms of recipient and decor. The lemon tartlet was yummy!
I dont know how traditional european cakes taste like
. But i am bought in on the cakes done here looks rustic and tasted quite "old school" I ordered the traditional polish cake tasted very musky (love the flavours) definately would be helpful if the staff were to give me more information on my choices.
Over priced not proper iced chocolates just chocolate milk with ice cubes in it, kids very unimpressed.
Great choice of amazing cakes! Gugelhupf and the polish cheesecake are awesome!
Good service and a interesting place.
My fave coffee shop in St Kilda. Brimming with tradition, atmosphere and history, it is no frills; just great coffee and wonderful cakes. My faves are continental cheesecake, vanilla cream slices that are so light they seem to float, and, of course, the famous Kugelhoff.
Bad manner staff.even if it taste good the environment ruined my day: (
The apple crumble is just like McDonald’s apple pie
Went to St Kilda for the first time in many years, great to see the iconic cake shops are still there in the new modern vibe of Acland Street. Definitely worth a visit and purchasing some lovely cakes.
Cakes are nice. Taste genuine and have flavor. Still a bit over priced comparing to other fancy sweets in city. There’s no price tag you can see And the place is so ragged and seems like not really well maintained. Flys in the showcase.
Staff are friendly, the shop has 1930s ambience. I highly reccommend the lemon tarts and the cheese cakes. The display case always looks scrumptious and I LOVE the old fashioned cash register. The whole experience is gorgeous complete with books, magazines and newspapers to read from the shelves. SOME of the cakes are a little disappointing though, and the prices are high.
We’re interstate visitors and always try to fit the iconic Ackland Street bakeries on our visits. I asked if cakes were fresh baked today. Very disappointed. NOT fresh and NOT the same quality as it used to be. Won’t be visiting any of the Ackland Street cake shops again.
Very cosy cakeshop with a variety of selections! I had the kugelhopf which was amazingly good. Worth a visit!
Pretty low quality food and coffee but with a premium price tag. Disappointing. Seems like they are paying for 5 star reviews but I could be wrong.
Old-fashioned overpriced place. Liked their plum pie, tasted and felt like at my grandma’s, cosy homemade, but borrrinnng. Kids weren’t impressed.
The place looks messy.
Perfect cakes and cozy atmosphere. I tried to make a photo but i had already eaten half ok the cheesecake that was one of the best!
A throwback to the 50s with great cakes, booms on the shelves.wow. Just want to go back. And don't forget the prized kugelhoph
