Michael Unwin Wines reviews
24Exceptional service! Attentive, knowledgeable and personalised! Sparkling Shiraz and Chardonnay are highly recommended for an easy breezy afternoon
Sarah was an absolute darling, the wine is delicious and a really beautiful venue. Best part was the loving animals to welcome you! Definitely worth a visit!
Thank you Michael Unwin wineries, Tim’s Toasties and Robdave music brilliant afternoon. Great food, wine, music and company. Thoroughly enjoyable relaxing afternoon.
We had a wonderful afternoon at Michael Unwin Wines. Sarah was a welcoming and knowledgeable host, who was so patient with our large group of 10. After a guided tasting we enjoyed some bottles of wine by the fire with a substantial cheese platter. It was a perfect afternoon. Definitely recommend!
We visited Michael Unwin Wines through our Hops n Grapes Winery Tour. Michael’s winery exceeded our expectations and was the stand out of the day thanks to Michael and the teams hospitality, knowledge and all in all welcoming nature. We will definitely be back to experience MUW by ourselves for a long afternoon… oh and also, the wines were delicious!
By far, the worst reception we ever faced in Australia. Richard was rude, unwelcoming down right racist. We are of European decent. My Ukrainian husband who speaks English really well, been in Australia for 27 years, spoke with little accent & Richard kept on embarrassing him by asking to repeat everything he would say with really intimidating & unwelcoming tone. All the other people around us who had no accent were treated with a lot more respect & way better customer service. We literally had to beg to try something. Richard behaved like he was doing us a favour. Hardly attended us, wouldn’t even ask me whether I wanted to try some wine. Even when we asked what could we try, we were very rudely told that it was right in front of us. Bought a cheese platter which we could hardly swallow given how unwelcomed he made us feel. This experience left bitter taste in our mouth, wanted to purchase some wine but instead we literally ran out of the place as soon as we could. Richard, thanks for making us all feel out of place just because our accent was different. Great example you showed our young son who we hope never shows this kind of disrespect to anyone with different race, colour or age. This message is for the owners to take it on board as I believe owners would not appreciate this kind of behaviour from their employee. As a business, you lost $$$ of dollars worth of sales & probably the future ongoing clients who have invested a lot in Ballarat.
This is the best winery that I’ve ever been to. We are a couple with a little dog, randomly picked a place to enjoy during Easter. Luckily, we found this amazing place. The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. They took us on a tour around the winery, providing us knowledge about winemaking processes. The wine is absolutely outstanding and the price is reasonable. Pick your favourite wine and go with a cheese platter, then enjoy~
I wish that there were 10 stars, I would give them 10 out of 10.
Will definitely come back again.
Thank you for accommodating us!
Great place to visit. As well as great wines, the staff were wonderfully accommodating to the entire family.
A good local winery that has three major lines that cater for most tastes and budgets. Although these wines are available from several Ballarat bottle shops and hotels, having the winery on the edge of town offers an opportunity to taste before buying.
Lovely, friendly owners and staff. Delicious wines, a very nice tasting experience and some great long weekend deals. Have us a great recommendation to a local pub for lunch. Also Harley loved his play with Poppy
Excellent service with a fantastic atmosphere. The fire place was lovely and warm. Thank you for taking the time to show us around.
Excellent selection of wines at various prices, starting around $20 per bottle. Excellent service, atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. This is the 2nd time my partner and I have been here and we enjoyed it as much as the first time! A great stop off if you're near Ballarat, you won't be disappointed!
Absolutely phenomenal winery! The staff took my partner and I on a tour around the winery to show their processes. Super knowledgeable and delicious wines!
One if the best wineries I've been too in ages (recommend the durif and the tattooed lady) But alas all of their wines are fantastic, atmosphere and staff are lovely and price is testament of the quality!
What a find! After 6 days in Ballarat due to vehicle brake down, which we don’t regret at all because, we come across places like Michael Unwin Wines. Just happened to be driving past, decided to pull in and we are glad we did, only a short visit but had a great time discussing wines and finding out where these guys grow their grapes across Victoria. Bad on our part that we didn’t take the name of the lady that helped us but ‘THANK YOU’ for your input.we came away with a cracking bottle of Petit Verdot.
Peace guys you rock

This was an unplanned visit. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Wine was a pleasant surprise. Would recommend.
Fantastic winery with the best in wine tasting in this area it has a beautiful spacious indoor area with lots of wine styled atmosphere great staff and customer service its clean neat and modern with a rustic charm that makes you feel welcome!
Could not be more impressed by this venue. We sat on comfy couches in front of the fire enjoying beautiful wine and a divine tasting board. Special mention of Josh who looked after us so beautifully and had such expert knowledge of the wine, the business and Michael Unwin's stories - what a wonderful blessing he is for this business.
One of the best wineries around Melbourne. Wide range of wines. Friendly, warm and professional service. Great wine. Definitely worth buying.
Whilst visiting on a very hot? Day 29/12/2019, Josh helped me out by offering a nice glass of water which brought my core temperature back down to room temperature. (And also cleansed the palate for tasting!). I was left to taste as Josh had to help pack (They’re relocating to Remembrance Drive Ballarat). I tried the One Goat Shiraz, and the One Goat Moscato then Kath entered to introduce me to an enormous wooden barrel containing the Ruby Hen fortified wine.and I’ve left with 2x Moscato and a 2 litre bottle freshly filled straight from the cask of Ruby Hen.
