Mexican Taco Port Melbourne

EDIT: Been here twice now. First experience was 9/10 experience. Understandably, ordering the Pumpkin quesadilla and the chef not having enough pumpkin and filled the rest with mushroom which is totally fine. But the second time dining here 2 weeks later the same thing happened where they fill it with mushroom as well can’t be a coincidence. Oh and our Chicken Taco was raw and completely pink, just be wary we had to take it back and order the beef just in case. The waiter was nice and accomodating.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Food was beyond delicious, fresh and hot that’s exactly how Mexican food should be! Compliments to the chef.

Had ordered food and told there was a 20 minute wait, ended up being 45 mins. After that the food order was incorrect. Food tasted good, but not sure if it was worth the wait and inconvenience.

We love this place, great Mexican food and super friendly service. They are always so nice! Get around this place a Bay Street gem.

Expensive nachos for a small portion
Didn't have any seasoning on any of our food or meat but the the chicken was soft and had a nice texture

Was looking for somewhere to have dinner one night and stumbled across this place and by my surprise it was exactly what I was looking for. Went inside to be greeted by the most welcoming “hey there, how can I help you… table for two? ” Never have I ever received one white so warm and welcoming. He led us to our seat and had the biggest smile on his face. Made my night. The service continued throughout my entire night and it’s safe to say, I am writing this review for a reason. Most amazing service. Would recommend. Food is amazing, waiters are amazing, chefs are amazing. What more can I say. This place is the best! Always coming here!

Cannot comprehend the absolute lack of customer service here. I’m 5 months pregnant, after a long day at work I was really looking forward to trying this place for the first time. However, I realised when I got home I was given the wrong order with prawn tacos, my husband is anaphylactic to prawns. I immediately returned to Mexican Taco with the incorrect order which they said was for a Paul, I pointed out that I’m not Paul and the order is for Madi. I explained my husband’s allergy, requested a refund and the order be remade. However, the employee said that they could refund me but not remake the order and would have to call to the ‘boss’, the boss said no and I would have to pay 50%. I refused and left, never to return. As a hospitality operator I cannot say how quickly we would remake and refund an order if that had happened. This place is often empty and now I know why, good luck to you surviving in the industry with such abysmal customer service.

Food was average. Good decoration but very low energy atmosphere. The lady who was behind bar very grumpy and not welcoming at all.

Dinner for 6 adults. Polite and quick service. The food is excellent. Started with the corn for entree’s. Very well cooked and charred. Ordered a range of mains with pork belly, beef, fish, prawns. Especially good was the pork belly! The fish had a very nice thin batter. We could taste the difference between chain Mexican restaurants and this one. Very delicious food all round.

Fun decor and atmosphere and the complimentary chips and salsa was a nice touch. I had a chicken enchilada and prawn taco which isn’t my default Mexican order so not sure what possessed me but it was yummy. Felt it lacked a bit of freshness that some guac could have brought but perhaps that’s the nature of what I ordered being quite cheesy

What a pleasant and personalised experience. Manager Majil and the staff provided exceptionally great service. Food and the quantity is also great.

Would like a combination meal for one, because I want to appreciate all facets of a Mexican meal, but that is my only gripe. Service exceptional.well priced.beautiful food

Incredible Mexican good - authentic taste and very filling.

Waiter was also extremely lovely.

Dined in at Mexican Taco today for lunch and had such a great time.
The place looks awesome and there is both indoor seating and some seating out the front on the pavement.
The service was excellent - the waiter was lovely and very attentive.
The menu has good options for both food and drinks. We had the pulled pork burrito and nachos with added slow cooked beef - both dishes were so fresh and delicious.
We will absolutely be returning and spreading the word about this little hidden gem in Port Melbourne!

Celebrated my nephews birthday there! Super tasty food! Enjoyed every bite! The Tuesday promotion for tacos was very handy!

Great margaritas. Good corn chips. The food was average. Service was well meaning but poor.

The nachos we're $18 for a tiny tiny portion. Super overpriced. They were also very cold.
My friend got churros and they were completely undercooked. Cold and tasted of raw dough: (
The sangria jug was $30, and it was okay, but I've had much better for $20 at other places.
Overall it was very overpriced, very small portions, poorly cooked and cold. Other friends had burritos and they looked good, but that maybe the only good thing here. We came on a Friday night. It wasn't busy, so I can't see that as an excuse

A wonderful and happy place where you can share some good food, good wine with good people. Highly recommend as the staff are so welcoming and more than dedicated to ensure a great night out… with sombreros! Thanks Catherine!

We just had an amazing Bday party there for 20 ppl - 5 star. Nice staff, great service, delicious food #bestmargaritas - highly recommend this spot for all occasions.

I don’t write reviews unless places are awesome. Mexican Taco is exactly that. Good food, excellent margaritas, and stellar service…all at an excellent price point. The daily specials look good and I will be back next week. Don’t let the bland name (Mexican Taco?) put you off. This place is the go.
