Mercy Place Fernhill (Sandringham) reviews
5Fernhill is an amazing aged care facility. Like all facilities it has staff shortages particularly after the lingering effects of COVID. Mum has been at Fernhill for 6 years and we cannot speak highly enough of the team - friendly, caring, approachable and dedicated. Thank you so much, we appreciate you.
Our experience with Mercy Place Fernhill has been very positive. Beautiful location and the new management team genuinely care about quality of life for the residents. The staff are dedicated and do all they can to help people be healthy and engaged. Choosing a nursing home can be difficult. Nobody wants a parent in care, but our family has peace of mind with Mum at Fernhill.
I would give a zero star if the option was available. High front-line staff turnover, high dependency on agency staff. Staff resident/ratio is kept secret, but **there is not enough** staff. Dementia unit is.disappointing to say the least. Dementia Australia should visit this facility's dementia unit! So many baseline dementia improvements required. No, I do not recommend this facility. Know this, it's a facility **not a home**.
Incredibly disappointed and upset that after being told last Tuesday Fernhill had 3 rooms available, my mother went on a tour with a Tessa, liked the place, needed to quickly check with the hospital where dad is currently that he's good to go, after which I left no less than 3 messages from Wednesday to Friday asking to secure the room and ask a few questions and still have not received a call back. I have now been told by Caulfield hospital that Fernhill said there are now no vacancies. So unprofessional, you are dealing with octogenarians and a huge life change. You need more staff, clearly, so obviously dollars over lives. Poor, very very poor.
Lovely place but management changes have led to under staffing to keep costs down and the staff are run off their feet most of the time. This effects the quality of care and activities and the food is reportedly very poor, even for aged care meals. Disapointing as the location and views are first class and fees are top dollar.
