Merbein Common reviews
18 Great spot with relativly easy access to the river.
Lots of great spots to sit by the river, walk dogs, fish etc.
Access tracks can be a bit choppy after wet weather.
Very popular in peak times, be prepared to share tent pegs with your neighbours.
A lot of people either dumping rubbish or leaving rubbish (especially in urried toilet paper) behind after camping have applied the place over the last few years.
There's also been quite a bit of illegal firewood removal, so firewood is scarce.
Bit muddy track need gradding.
Drove down in all wheel rav 4.
Still nice place.
With the Murray still very high, the tracks are very boggy and muddy, there were a few vans camping but we decided to move on.
Nice spot right beside the river. Pretty quiet this time of year (August). Great sunrise over the river in the morning.
Free camping right on the Murray. Heaps of room and great views. Merbien is a lovely town to explore and have a meal or coffee.
Quiet place by the river for a picnic or free camping.access to river however is limited by 2mt cliffs and reeds
Merbein Common Camp grounds. Lovely spot over looking the Murray River. Has 1 drop toilet, 20 minute walk to town, well distanced camp sites
Private and on the Murray River bank, need to be self contained for sites, there is a drop toilet near River Access #5
Great little camp spot right on the river, nice and quiet at the moment but would expect it to become very busy during peak times
Lovely place to camp, bike riders out on the common 4x4 drivers out there most weekends if it been raining they dig up the rds people walking with dogs walk right through your camp most times dogs off lead so protect yr own dogs most times it is lovely there
Relaxing place by the Murray River. Excellent for walking and camping. Very popular with all kinds of mobile accommodation.
Campspots right on the murray river under some large trees or bushy wattle trees, tiolets at the day visit area, merbein township minutes away for all your needs including full, there's also a wrecker if you need a part for your vehicle
Beautiful spot with good facilities. Township is only a stone's throw away and the people there are really friendly, and have no problem with you spending money in their town.
Waking up with the sights and sounds of wildlife is fantastic. Its just a shame we could not stay any longer.
Merbein Common was a really relaxing campground. My husband and I camped in our camper trailer for 5 nights in July. The weather was mild.
Make sure you bring your own wood for camp fire as there's nothing much on the ground.
We had a storm while there. It made the tracks in and out virtually impassable. Don't even think about it in a 2wd.
Close to both Merbein and Mildura for topping up supplies. There is a clean drop loo in the visitor day area.
We pretty much had the place to ourselves. Great for summer as it's quite shady. Would definitely come back again. But keep an eye on the weather radar.
A lovely peaceful free camp site. You may need a 4x4 to get to some spots here but well worth it. Careful not to park under large old trees unless you want a branch invasion.
. Lovely free camp on the river.will tell people about it. Alwasy meeting new people. One thing i say to people is please take your rubish with you.
Wow an amazing free camp. I camped further along, away from every one. Stayed 8 months lol great parks guys would cheack on me. Police dropped in afew times to see i was ok. Great fishing 1 cod a week baged out on big yella belly all the time.
I you stay please give Merbin town your money a lot of closed shops. Great bakery yum great takaway shops clean toilets in main road.
1$ washing m/c and 1$ dryers. Library and mechanics petrol. I loved the place and people. The caravan park is very tired but cheap gas for bottle and $ 5 shower. Roadside oranges and mandarins i lived on them. One thing summer very very hot lots of snakes and goannas but loved every day. 3 days rain for winter i was brown as a berry for winter!
Camped here for one night - we were planing to stay longer but ended up moving out early as the access to the river wasn't great. We needed a beach type access for our 3 year old, and most of the river access here was quite reedy and marshy.
The roads coming in were a little tight too with narrow access through trees and also some ruts in the road. We do have a 22ft van mind you, and it just meant one of us had to spot whilst going around certain corner or through spots with gums either side.
It looked like quite a peaceful spot otherwise.
