Unfortunately I had a terrible experience during a house settlement recently. The practice failed to respond to phone calls and emails. The Conveyancer promised to send through documents and I was left waiting days without receiving anything. In addition the settlement adjustments were calculated incorrectly (based on an unexecuted copy of the contract of sale) and I had to come up with an additional $9k an hour prior to settlement. Talk about a stressful situation! As a single purchaser I had not foreseen these additional costs and had to rely on family members to fund.
When I raised this with the Principle he was, rude, dismissive and didn't want to make time to discuss with me. He made a point that I should of checked the calculations (what experience do I have to check this, what do their fees cover?).
Single women purchasing a house for the first time, avoid!
