Waste of our Money. Went with our 3 Children (2nd time) and could max see 6 Animals in 4 hours. Definitely not worth it. A massive place but definitely doesn’t have enough Animals and they are either asleep or hiding in the shade somewhere.

I've been 3 times growing up. This is the first time I've been back in 10 years. Overall pretty poor compared to the past and zoos in Asia. I'm not sure if they're trying to cut costs but.

Pros:
Lot of activities for kids and family.

Cons:
Directions are not clear.

There are large enclosures with 1 animal in it.

Labelling of enclosures is not clear. E.g. Multiple areas with koalas and monkeys where one of the enclosures are empty.

Lots of animals couldn't be seen (I understand they sleep but it felt some of the cages were empty).

It’s a lot more fun than imagined! It’s only a 20-minute tram ride from the city center!
I saw a lot of animals, and the animals looked very happy~
It’s better to spend 4-5 hours as it’s more leisurely to stroll around.
It’s also great for kids!

Disappointed that there are so few animals there. They seem to have a policy of moving large animals out of the zoo and moving them to the safari park instead. Pity because it is very expensive to buy an adult zoo entry ticket.

Went there on a hot day and it was nice to find that there was plenty of shade for visitors and animals alike. There were plenty of places to buy refreshments and they were not too expensive. I loved the beautiful gardens and the animal habitats looked nice and well maintained

The price of the entry tickets are ridiculous for how poorly treated the animals looked. Please do not support this zoo if you do not like seeing animals bored, hungry, or depressed. Meerkats were running in circles and digging towards the glass that led to the outside of their habitat, and the lions looked severely underfed. The habitats were also way too small for any of the animals as well. Please save your money and consider a better and cheaper zoo option with healthy animals for you and your children to enjoy seeing.

The Butterfly house is always a favourite, especially when one of the butterflies land on you. Went to a function near the elephant house, food was lovely, atmosphere too.

Well maintained zoo with good facilities and lots of open green space, however, most of the exhibits either had only one animal inside or none. It could just be sheer bad timing of my visit but still slightly disappointing nonetheless

Went on a Monday afternoon last week. It was such a delightful experience, kids were everywhere shouting in excitement. Picked a sunny day so the shots look amazing.

You know, I've been taking my kids and now grandkids there for over 30 years. Unfortunately my latest visit on Monday 4th July was extremely disappointing. A large proportion of the enclosures were empty of animals My little grandkids would run up to the windows/fences hoping to see an animal but alas, there were none. The open kangaroo/emu enclosure that you once could just wander into i now have to pay for. Souvenir shop prices are a bit over the top, $35 for a small plush wombat? Seriously! My granddaughter wanted one but I said "I'm sorry but I'm not paying $35 for something that small". She replied "but it's cute" I replied. "it's not $35 cute" She settled for a small $22 echidna. The underwater seal aquarium needs to have it's glass viewing windows cleaned as they are quite cloudy now. The glass viewing windows on the gorilla exhibit also need a good clean. Hopefully on our next visit things will be better as this one was disappointing.

I have been a few times to Melbourne zoo. Its a big Park with lots to see. Can definitely spend the whole day there. I'm feel sorry though for large animals like elements that don't seem to have much space. Melbourne zoo however seems quite tidy and organised, with plenty to see and lots of food and beverage stalls. The parking is $2 for 5 hours. 5 hours is rushed though so i do feel that parking should be at least 6 hours.
It would also be good to know what time is feeding time for the animals giving you a chance to see them more active.

Stayed overnight for the 'roar and snore'. Fantastic opportunity to see and hear animals at night. Carla and Pete, our guides, were really fun and knowledgeable. Great experience!

The themes like Asian Rainforest, Elephant Trail, Wild Sea, Lion's Gorge all are exceptional. The zoo is very clean and well maintained. "Experiences" with animals like Kangaroo feeding, etc are good as well. Tram 58 from city or Upfield train line to Royal Park station are convenient travel options to the zoo.

Butterfly garden the best part. Most animals just look sad, you can't see them anywhere. Almost 2/3 zoo you cant see anything. More variety is needed in animals.

Didn't get to see many animals.
Didn't sight any big cats.
The elephants were in back of house.
Apes were in the centre of the enclosure pretty much out of view.
Staff said warm weather meant they were likely laying down somewhere or back of house.
Compared to 10 yrs ago quite disappointing.
It's more a botanical experience.
And food shops closed early. 3 something when zoo shuts at 5
