Melbourne University Sport reviews
31 Unfair direct debit practices. Beware - don't trust them just because they are your uni gym.
Also agree with the other comments about the lengthy closure over Christmas where you still get charged - highway robbery written into the contract. It's laughable that they try to defend charging for a service during a period when that service is unavailable.
Why is Melbourne University Sport run like a lowly money-grubbing enterprise? Didn't expect a university gym to stoop so low.
Edited feb 2019:
Excellent weightlifting equipment. Everything is in good condition and the gym is never particularly busy. Other gym users are friendly.
Reasons for poor rating:
- The gym was closed for a long time over Christmas and the new year. (one star off)
- Male changing room was closed for a long time which meant no toilets, showers or changing rooms in the middle of summer (no stars off as hopefully it is a one time thing)
- Management has decided to go crazy about people using gym towels. After being given a towel and told I needed to bring it with me or I would be asked to leave, my card was blocked anyway without warning. (one star off). Still plenty of people without towels. Equipment wipes are available anyway.
Can't the female staff at the front desk of the beaurepaire centre be more friendly and helpful? Every time when I had to talk to one of the ladies there I felt like this was not the friendly atmosphere what melbourne uni boasted for.
Best for unimelb students and staff! Variety of classes at different levels. My favourite is the Wednesday and Thursday body balance classes by Kat and Janet. They’re wonderful instructors!
I think they have improved their service! Now the customer service is really good! All the equipments are fantastic! Highly recommend!
Gym is great, a good, competitively-priced option for students. I've been doing a lot of the classes and all of the instructors are very motivating and friendly. It's a bit hard to work out the systems and processes at first as there's not necessarily someone explaining things to beginners, but I've just been asking friendly looking people and it's been fine
Very poor customer service. I believe the staffs have racial discrimination. Unreasonable charge for so-called default fees. Not coming back again after my membership expires.
Has tennis courts, an athletics track, fitness classes and gym with nice, clean changing rooms.
The service drags everything down to the bottom. I'll give four stars for gym atmosphere, the gym has great natural lighting and views, pool is also great. However, when I have to go to the counter desk for various reasons, the faces I face is way too unfriendly, ruins everything. If it is money related issues, customers want to know about the details. It wasn't too busy at the time! Please do not just say "you have $$ to pay" full stop, or "it's our regulation". I'm more than happy to pay, I have been a member in this gym for THREE YEARS, and most of the time I hate talking to some staffs. For three years, I have recommended so many friends to go to Melbourne Uni Sports, but probably not anymore. It really ruins the day to smile at someone who doesn't care. Could the management group do something maybe?
I have recently tried a lot of other gyms and decided to still stick with the one in Melbourne Uni. I don’t understand why huge gyms like virgin active and fitness first would have only 2 bench press racks. While the Melbourne uni sport meet all my requirements, the only problem is that the hours are too short for me.
Attitude to a customer at counter desk is terrible. Even if the work out and pool areas are good enough, every time I have to go for any reason and have conversation at a counter desk I face the unfriendly personnel who don't even care of anything related to you and their responsibilities. Once I leave University of Melbourne, I would never come back and use this gym ever. It is actually one of the only two places in Melbourne where I do consistently meet lack of service and rude unfriendly people (second is BDM department of Melbourne)
