Melbourne Table & Chair Hire

It is both surprising and disappointing that the most stressful part of my organising my wedding, was dealing with Melbourne Table & Chair Hire. I made a simple booking via email, 23 chairs for self-pickup and drop off. I was advised in my booking confirmation that pickup/drop off was available between 10: 30am to 2: 30pm and accordingly planned the days before and after the wedding around this.

Then comes the day of pickup (wedding day eve). I receive a call from the company advising that I can only pickup after 1: 00pm because they have a ‘busy morning’. While this did throw off a lot of the plans for the day and resulted in us having to check in to our hotel late, I thought ‘no problem, complications happen’. I should have been alarmed however, when they then proceeded to clean dirt off of the chairs as they loaded them into my car, however I turned a blind eye.

The real kicker comes upon drop off of the chairs however. The morning of the drop off, I receive a call from the company advising that they need the chairs back by 12: 30pm (2 hours before the prior agreed upon delivery window closes). We informed them that we would try our best and promptly checked out of our hotel early to attempt filling the request. In the end, we had the chairs ready for a 1: 00pm drop-off, a whole hour earlier than our originally planned time to drop them off. However, this was not good enough for the team at Melbourne Table and Chair Hire. Despite the fact that we had bent over backwards trying to service a company that we were paying money to, this did not prevent the verbal onslaught that the owner gave me over the phone. It was as if I was an employee who hadn’t shown up for a shift. The owner then attempted to emotionally blackmail me, saying that I was going to make him late for a funeral.

Whilst I am sympathetic that he had to go to a funeral, if the chairs were going to be required earlier then this had to be communicated much sooner. If we were told on pickup that the drop off time needed to be changed, we would have been able to oblige.

Overall this business failed to keep to its agreed upon times on two occasions, failed to have the chairs in a clean and ready to use condition on pickup, and has verbally abused me over the phone.

I’ve used a few different party hire companies around Melbourne and I have to say these guys are the best. The team was extremely professional and accommodating. We had to change our plans last minute due to weather conditions and they went above and beyond to make sure my son’s first birthday party went smoothly and it looked fantastic. I highly recommend them for any of your party hire needs

I have had to hire tables & chairs for multiple functions I’ve organised for work purposes. As well as marquees from time to time. The deliveries have always been on time & the stock is all in good condition. No damage or major signs of wear & tear. I work for a not for profit so budgets are always tight. The hire costs are very reasonable compared to other hire companies. Would recommend.

I hired a small number of tables and chairs for a birthday party. The service was fine. What wasn’t fine four days later, was the extreme road rage and dangerous driving witnessed by the very same gentleman that had come and picked up the table and chairs.

As I was driving north down Coppin Street between Palmer Street and Highett Street at 8: 35 am on Friday 4 Feb 2022, I slowed down due to a cyclist and two teenage boys wearing Richmond High uniforms riding the new e-scooters without helmets.

A small white flat deck truck started blasting the horn behind me. Looking in the rearview mirror, I saw the guy was screaming at me and throwing his arms around motioning me to hurry up. The kids took an exit and headed towards school but the irate gentleman behind me was still going crazy. Therefore I slowed down further.

Enraged by this, the gentleman swerved across the median between the trees and barriers squealing tyres. Speeding, he drove on the wrong side of the road and then crossed sharply in front of me, cutting up the cyclist (that was still in front of me), before swerving left at the roundabout up Highett Street. It was at this point when I realised why he looked familiar as I saw the COMPANY SIGNAGE on the side of his truck: 'Melbourne Table and Chairs'.

The dense number of primary and high school kids in the morning in this area made his aggressive driving especially dangerous!

Given his anger issues at being delayed by 30 seconds on a small stretch of inner-city roading, I would never use Melbourne Table and Chairs again.

Poor customer service and the owner Marcus needs to work on his business etiquette. Requested to have a few things removed from the quote as we didn't require them anymore, Marcus removed the items however then added the cost of the removed items to the delivery fee so the overall quote remined the same price however with less items. When I questioned is this was a simple error I was met with extreme rudeness telling me I cant tell him how to run his business and then continued to advise me that the items I was after are no longer in stock. I called Marcus as emails can sometimes be taken out of context however I was met again with a barrage of unprofessionalism with Marcus once again abusing me and telling me that he doesn't have time to deal with with this and that I wouldn't find these items to hire cheaper anywhere else. A few phone calls to other businesses I was able to find the same items for the same price - word of advise to anyone looking to hire from this company, search around as I found other businesses that weren't only helpful but understood how to correctly run a business.

Terrible customer service, emailed through their website, didn’t hear back for a week and when I called I got a gruff man who just said ‘naaawwww mate, not going over the bridge’. I’m genuinely glad they’re not delivering to my neighbourhood because at the level of professionalism I experienced its likely I’ve dodged a bullet.

Sent an online enquiry through their website asking about hiring some tables and chairs and specified that I would be picking them up myself. One of the mandatory fields on their form is to fill out the home address. I get a response saying they don't service my area. I asked why that was an issue when I was picking it up myself and never heard back. Ended up hiring from someone else.

Been using these guys for a long time. From kids parties to functions, Marcus has never let us down. Always goes above and beyond. Great service and equipment.

Hired a tent last minute for the weekend. Staff were very helpful and accommodating, price was very reasonable. Highly recommend for all functions big or small.

From the first contact, MT&CH were fantastic - Charlie was polite, helpful and knew his stuff (prices, availability etc.) He even followed up my order. I was able to pick-up and drop off with my own trailer and there were heaps of hands to help with the load and unload. Very professional and friendly to deal with - no fuss, everything I needed. Definitely using MT&CH again. If only everyone had this high level of good old-fashioned customer service!
