Melbourne City Baths reviews
59A great place for us all to learn to swim or be fit. Swim teachers for the kids are awesome! Facilities are well maintained and clean.
First time in a long time I trained properly. Very friendly and staff is very good. Unlike other gyms it's just for instagram
You look from outside and it looks ancient and petite.but the perception change once you are in. It gives you a whole new sense and makes you realise how wrong you were. There are two pools on either side of the main corridor watched over by life guards. A little bit of walk and you see a Table tennis. You walk down the stairs and there you have a fully equipped gym and a squash court. I mean life can't get any better. And yes I forgot, at the entrance there is lovely staff who welcomes you like they have known you for ages (this was my first visit here). I went for a game of squash and it was worth it. FYI I already booked another session for the next day.
I turned up to Carlton Baths (the sister company) and was told about “license to move” - no joining fee and two weeks free trial, was shown the information on a pamphlet and was told it would include there, Bourke Street, Swanston Street and Kensington. I advised how important it was for me to practice swimming, and was told about all the swimming facilities. I was told to ring back end of the week to see if it had been finalised and I was given a free session for that one Sunday.
I turned up to the Swanston Street branch at the end of the week as directed, where I live, and the man behind the counter wearing a baseball cap was very dismissive. I asked him about “licence to move” and he interrupted me to tell me I was after the “30 days for $30”. I said no I’m after the “license to move”, and tried to tell him what that was - he dismissively said “same thing”. He wasn’t interested in listening, he wasn’t interested in problem-solving, they just want your money. It wasn’t the same thing. When I finally told him what I have been told, he practically turned this back on me and said you have to go ask them - different company, and didn’t seem at all interested in engaging me or picking up the phone and speaking to them to help me. I was just a number for money. He was trying to move me on and I said No. I want to discuss what I was told last week at the Carlton branch.
Nice building. Dirty change rooms. Quite good gym. Consistently terrible management and some really rude staff. Some basic customer service training would be a good idea.
Love this pool. Clean. Old school. If you want a modern 50m swim, high energy, noisy.then this isn’t for you. (Try the Melbourne aquatic centre.) If you want clean and calm and professional. Come to these baths.
My kids have taken swimming lessons here for years, and I've been a gym member as well. It's great, basic, and friendly.
This was the worst experience ever as an ex profession swimmer i’m so disappointed.
I had two young children with me 9 & 12 I called in advance to make sure they could come in the spa with me, I was told yes but when i arrived i was told no.
Definitely not going back ever, not a good place for kids!
Lovely pool, fantastic staff and a nice community vibe amongst the patrons. I’m delighted to be able to get down here again.
This place is so dirty and the staff are very rude, it says it closes at 6 but they kick you out at 5.45.
The water quality and temperature regulation are both very good. It's my favourite pool in Melbourne.
It was so sad to see at their christmas event that the staff throw few bins full of food instead of giving to homeless or people in need. A few people asked to pack it away but they preferred throwing it into the bin.
NOT CLEAN, small space overcrowded.
Uncomfortable feeling. Had to leave after 20 minutes.
Friendly atmosphere and great facilities. Highly recommend this place. However the pricing may be a bit high.
Awsome place for just a swim or if your like me stuffed up they have physio hydro aswell perfect.
Heavily chlorinated water in the pool. Not suitable for kids or people with sensitive skin. It'd be much better to use more progressive techniques for water treatment such as UV or ozone filtering.
I would say the comments of bad attitude of the staff is not a rumour, they can be very very rude to you even you didn’t do anything wrong, I’m glad I have looked up the comments before so I will not feel that bad (well at least I’m not alone)
Nice piece of Melbourne history which would be a shame to lose. Lovely on a cold morning to come and enjoy the sauna, and not too expensive. Pool is OK but spa is too cold.
It is good place.i regularly go there for swimming, spa and sauna. But customer service is really poor.
I love it here the bigger places have nothing on this place I found joe the lifeguard is a great bloke I always drop in to see him when im in town
