Everyone here is extraordinarily nice and supportive, and the owners are absolute legends. I could not recommend this place enough.

I went in for a trial aikido class and was immediately welcomed by Costa and Luca. During the class as a newbie received extra 1-1 instruction, and it's clear that they attract a friendly bunch of students as reflected in the fun and welcoming environment. Unfortunately it wasn't for me at this stage due to my pre existing injuries but might try again once I get better!

Melbourne Budo Academy was founded by Jon Marshall Shihan in 2010 with a mind to open a dojo that fully embraced other Martial Arts such Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Shinkendo and Kali in Unison with his own teaching contributions as lifetime practitioner and promoter of Yoshinkan Aikido, Globally. He maintains strong connections to Japanese Yoshinkan Honbu dojo where he completed the Senshusei course and IGRAF who have both honoured him with the title of Shihan. See singaporebudo.com.
The reins were recently passed to new owners who fully adopt his approach and both are competent martial artists across several disciplines. I’m honoured to have been a part of this journey.

I've joined Melbourne Budo Academy about a year ago, with all the lockdowns scattered here and there throughout the year doesn't stop me to keep coming back to this dojo! Since day one Costa Sensei, Rey Sensei and Lael Sensei has been nothing but delivering some great variety of teaching methods, encouraging me to improve rapidly. Mix training of junior and advanced students is effective and fun. Since the beginning of the year, we are welcoming Luca Sensei and I’m loving his fun class too! Bottom line, I’m addicted to Aikido training with a bunch of amazing sensei (s) and senpai (s)! どうもありがとう

Can't recommend it highly enough. Amazing dojo atmosphere, like-minded training partners and high level coaches. Kids and adult classes offered. Take advantage of the free trial classes; you won't regret it!

My two sons have been learning Aikido here for two years now and they still love it. Rey is an enthusiastic and attentive teacher. Overall aikido has been excellent for both the kids’ physical and mental discipline.

My 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter have been training with Sensei Rey at Melbourne Budo for 3 years. The practice has not only taught them self defence and improved their fitness and agility, but also enforced the essential skills of being able to listen, focus and show respect. Rey is an excellent instructor for children and has fostered a great sense of community amongst his students both in class and through occasional social events.

Budo Academy have created a Zen Dojo on a busy street. Rey is a dedicated sensei and teaches the art in a disciplined yet fun way. The kids have a great time learning Aikido skills and its philosophies while maintaining class attention. I highly recommend Budo Academy for any parent wishing to help foster confidence and focus in their child.

A great place for your child to learn confidence in their voice and body. Rey is a great teacher who carefully balances the need to keep things fun with the need to practice techniques. A great, learning environment.
