Masala Chai Cafe (A Vegan Vegetarian Cafe) reviews
39What an amazing place to be for breakfast. The food, the ambience, the service.everything made a perfect combo. We tried potato sandwich toast, sabu dana khichdi, poha, masala chai.all yum yum
This is one of our favourite places to bring family or friends who enjoy Indian food & chai. Such a peaceful little spot they’ve created!
Cafe has a pretty backyard to sit and have lunch and it made me rethink about Indian food!
It was a good experience
Lovely little nook. The uncrowded space, soothing music, caring service with simple yet beautifully prepared food takes one back to many a memory lane.
The Masala Chai is certainly a stand out! This is a lovely spot to have an unhurried catch up with old mates, to share many a laugh and of course, lots of Chai!
Tip: The kachoris are great but run out quickly. So come in early if you want to try them!
I lived nearby Masala Chai Cafe and looked forward to the end of the week when I could go in and get my usual order… the potato toastie and chai! Owner and staff always showed immense kindness. I will miss it! Thank you! ️
My partner and I ate here a little while back and the food was delicious. The main issue was the lack of friendly service- I don’t think the staff smiled once and we left feeling unwelcome.
First time we found a place serving North Indian breakfast.
Nice cozy place, a great tasting sandwich, poha and sabu dana khichdi.
And a happy ginger tea ended the visit with nice convo with honest owner.
Suggestion- dont make poha tooo hot when serve; it dries up.
See ya again.
Masala Chai cafe feels like a bit like home. Familiar, home like toastie and the best loose leaf chai you'll get. Its a cozy place with a cute backyard and a ginormous lemon tree. The owner Mitu Bhaiya and his daughter are ever smiling. The cafe does not boast of a huge menu, but whatever they serve is delish. A great place for vegans (thankfully no smashed avo!).
Edit: Oct 2022
My previous review/ issue was addressed by the owner when I visited today when I decided to have chai and sandwich again here. I appreciate they respect and try to based on customer reviews. My experience this time was definitely better and had a happy meal. We felt welcomed.
Poha was steaming hot and and straight from stove and freshly made and was good to have in this a bit cloudy weather? And as usually potato masala sandwich well made, crisp and buttery was great.
I was happy to see that this lil cafe was welcoming more Local crowd to and as Indian I was happy to see that everyone not just Indian are willing to try Indian style breakfast and chai?
Edited 3* to 4*:)
Printed menu was lacking. ———-
I understand why people are giving 5* throughout
But honestly I was lil disappointed
Firstly, for the good part
Poha, masala potato and club sandwich was good in taste. Had a touch of home food. Masala chai was good and I appreciate the fact that it was made traditional way over a stove and not using pre mix chai packets. Flat white coffee was decent.
But lacked that smiling and welcoming staff. The tables were not clean after customer previous to us left
Their were dirty dishes laying around our table
They probably did not maintain the backyard and it was nothing like the pictures they have uploaded from a year ago.
Heaters was placed very randomly
And and the most basic menu are not printed out for customer and there were around 4 5 customer while we were their asked for it and sadly their response was “ it is at front” which is what not everyone likes.
Service was relatively slow.
So all my ranking is for good food
But they really need to up themselves in customer service, ambience and for sure cleaning a bit more.
Small lovely cafe, feel like sitting in someone home, welcoming and friendly owner. Ordered potatoes toast, poha rice and coffee. All tastes great!
Tastes nothing like the chai you get from the cafes. Chai here is strong and fragrant! Very friendly owner too.
Can't believe we dint hear about this cafe before! What a treat.gorgeous outdoor sittingmusic lovely owners. Authentic masala chai, aloo sandwich, dal-kachori and the best carrot cake I've ever had.fantastic!
Not really a tea drinker, but Great Masala Tea with oat milk, nice casual cafe, friendly family business.
The backside place of the Cafe was really very appealing. The backside of the cafe was very natural and was giving an Indian feel. Lots of plants, grass and perfect positions of tables and chairs. The customer service is outstanding. We talked with the owner of the Cafe as well, such a decent guy and polite man. He made the best chai that we could have ever had in Melbourne and it was homely. The sandwich that I ordered seemed kind of my mother's touch, in her absence. Based on their hard work and sincerity, many people should visit the place and have something. We would totally recommend the place.
Very nice chai around south east.try with aloo sandwich & poha they are best.chai uncle is very friendly.
Best experience ever. Food was great and hospitality was also good. Nice little place. Will be going regularly.
Very nice place for vegetarian and vegan indian food. We loved the potato sandwich and masala chai. Even samosa and kachoris were delicious. Highly recommended for chai lovers.
Had awesome Mirchi Bada, Kachori and amazing masala chai.
Cozy Seating & Peaceful ambience.
Highly recommend this wonderful cafe
Seek out this secret spicy gem of a Cafe tucked away in the slip road between Oakleigh Station and Warrigal Road. The masala chai is expertly blended with freshly ground spices and, (I will capitalise) TASTES DELICIOUS. Ask for the spicy potato toasted sandwich featuring fresh herbs and a blend of flavours that makes your taste buds tingle and there's just nothing else for it.you will want to tell your friends and come back for more!
Don't expect fast food - the owner is meticulous. Enjoy the relaxed ambience while he grinds, blends and infuses those flavours. Believe me. It is worth the wait.
Hidden gem!
My husband found this place while looking for Indian masala chai and I must say if you are looking for best authentic Indian chai. Come here!
We also masala potato sandwich and poha which was incredible. The owner puts in maximum effort to make sure it's cooked to perfection.
I am definitely coming back again:)
