Mankee Dim Sim reviews
26 Restaurant quality, great range, good value. Most of all, the reason for writing this review is the people.
It's busy, it's hectic, there's frozen, refrigerated, hot and fresh, people and products constantly moving all around you, but their staff is so nice, polite and fluent multilingual that it can ease the tension. Most "yes", "of course", and "thank you" that I've heard in one place in 5 min.
Found a hair in it, which is very unhygienic. They need to look at their hygiene level and improve their quality control.
Great place to get frozen bbq pork buns that are delicious when steamed at home. They have hot dishes on Saturday for take away too
I go here as often as I can to purchase delicious dumplings, deserts, siu mai, etc. And the prices are great. All home made and fresh. Yum, my favourite shop.
Decent authentic Cantonese dim sums made. Got the quality taste. Got the portion right size. Got the real seafoods taste. No lack of qualities meats. Of all you can only find so satisfying.
Just had the BBQ Pork buns and Chicken Bun. So delicious. I definitely will be going back. I definitely recommend trying this place. Best Yum Char.
I bought a few classic dim sum varieties to try: prawn dumplings, pork siu mai, BBQ pork bun, and beef meatballs. The textures of all four of them were en pointe. The fluffiness of the BBQ pork buns deserves a special mention and it's really satisfying to see pork buns that are actually traditional size and not miniature. The beef meatballs are bouncy but not floury, which means they were made right and not compensated by too much starch. The prawn dumpling skin has some bite but is unfortunately a bit too thick. From this trial it will be a 3.5 overall. I'd definitely rate it higher if the MSG is pulled back a little bit and not so prominent.
Great food and staff so friendly. Hot food delicious, will be coming back again to try their frozen yum cha dumplings!
Good value and no nonsense take away dim sum (quite a few items on offer need re-heating). Beats paying high prices at yum cha restaurants especially having to fork out weekend surcharge. Most items are expertly made but be sure to know how to reheat to ensure best outcome.
If unsure about best reheating method, ask the friendly lady owner who will be more than happy to give some tips. Hence with proper reheating, you will enjoy a quality yum cha meal that is not very different to that served in restaurants but at a mere fraction of cost.
Great quality yum cha items. Quick and easy at the store. Great fresh selection of items on specific days. Friendly service.
A simple shop front where you can buy frozen yum cha dumplings to cook at home or for your own restaurant. Come on the weekends and there are precooked / steamed buns, egg tarts, and more.
Parking is along the street.
Literally the best and most authentic cha siew bun I found in Melb! Highly recommend this place.
It's a manufacturer as well as restaurant food supplier which also retails to the public. Only four spaces for parking in front of the shop. Food are in freezers. There's a menu to select from as well. If I hadn't been told that they sell direct to the public I would not have thought of waking in here to purchase bbq pork buns or other dim sum items.
Excellent deal compare to going to yum cha restaurant, roughly 1/3 of the cost. Chicken feet and black bean pork were very HK authentic. Buns were great too - fluffy and filling better than some yum cha places. All the dumpling were also very tasty. It takes some time to work out cooking, a bit of trial and error to avoid over vs under steaming. I'll never need to go restaurant again.
Very good quality dimsum and we had a an excellent lunch with the family and value for money. They deliver for value over $100
Try it and you won't have to go to restaurants anymore.
Excellent dim sims, so far the best frozen ones you can find in Melbourne. Plenty of flavours and decently priced
Really good dim sum. So convenient to have in the freezer so that we can have dim sum anytime! The fried beancurd roll, prawn dumplings, chicken feet, and sticky rice are restaurant quality
Authentic restaurant quality dim sums at affordable prices. Highly recommend the char siu bao and the sticky rice bun, egg tarts & the oval shape fired sticky dough thingy. Chicken feet in black bean sauce is a must try. Put it on half cooked clay pot rice and lunch/dinner is sorted! The owner is so lovely and helpful as well which is a bonus.
We brought some Chinese donuts last Saturday but they were FULL of oil. When we tried to re-heat them in our oven, there were total at least 10 teaspoons of oil left on our baking tray. Even after re-heating them, when we had a bit, they were still very oily, unedible. At the end, they all end up in our bin. Totally waste of our money. So disappointed!
So glad I discovered Mankee! So reasonably priced. A lot better value than yumcha. Taste exactly like yumcha (I'm guessing this place supplies restraunts because there is literally zero difference in taste). Steam yourself, 10 to 15 mins at home. Simple! I'll be a regular customer:)
