53Food is terrific, flavoursome, and quirky. You have your usual breakfast and lunch staples with a twist. Staff are friendly. The atmosphere is warm and rustic.
It’s been years since I went here. I remember that this place was not bad before. But today it was so so bad… especially iced coffee and matcha latte.we couldn’t drink them at all. It was the worst coffee in 2023 & 2024. I wouldn't recommend this place if there's no change in food and drinks.
Re: I visited between 1.15pm and 2pm. And I ordered iced soy latte, iced matcha latte, Philly steak bagel and honey & ricotta bagel. I hope you find a solution. Thank you
Typical Melbourne warehouse style cafe, nothing exceptional and pretty average given the stiff competition nearby
Even though I hadn't finished my coffee, it was taken down.
I felt like there was no need for any questions and answers, so I thought it was okay to lower it.
When I checked the time after it was lowered, it was almost closing, so I can understand.
I still had about half of it left, so I would have finished it if I wanted to lower it, but I was disappointed.
The lane looks very unassuming. The cafe was pretty busy though. Coffee and toastie were good. The toilets are unisex and quite a tight fit to get into.
Smashed avo with bagel was outstanding. Bagel wad nicely done. Avocado was fresh. Green Harissa was a great compliment, while Feta added more salty twists to make it perfect. 5 stars
Flat white wad mediocre melbourne standard. 3 stars
Serving within 10 minutes upon ordering.
Ambience was quiet, Instagramable and relax.
Delicious breakfast. Coffee to die for. We stumbled across this place by accident. OMG. I'll travel the 3 hours to eat here again.
Another gem in Melbourne - it's easy to see why this place is highly rated. The building has its own history. The latte was my initial choice, however was suggested a blend (I believe from Bolivia) which tasted great as an espresso. The waiter knows his stuff - and an excellent recommendation. Enjoyed the smell / aroma and the taste (quite rare for me to just have an espresso). Whilst in Melbourne I've had the espresso just twice and this was my second palace (in that weekend I managed to fit in 10 cafes).
A place I'd easily visit again.
Nice coffee taste and the place is cozy. However, they need to improve their service especially for take away customers. We were asked to step away eventhough the other server kindly asked us to sit while waiting for the coffee to be served. Note that there’s no price difference between take aways and dine in customers. Improve the service!
Can’t recommend enough, top quality coffee and amazing bagels. Cool busy vibe in the cafe.
I had coffee here with my partner and found a mix of good and bad. Starting with what I enjoyed: pleasant ambience and attentive staff. But then what really bothered me is that we got charged $12.55 for two undersized and quite mediocre coffees. It was particularly ridiculous to have a bunch of extra charges on top of the already expensive coffees. Being charged extra for the shot of coffee in a dirty chai latte seems especially cheeky.
Great hidden cafe. Excellent coffee and atmosphere. Ordered their chicken & avo sandwich, was below average to be honest.
Was here yesterday, got kicked out. While sitting on same table with 5 of my friends that ordering foods and drinks. And the best part is, we are the only table at that time.
You just lose your potential customers.
Goodluck surviving.
We are coming 7 ppl today but 2 of my friend didnt order food and the staff asked them to get out from the cafe and left 5 of us in the cafe.
This is ridiculous.
The best latte in melbs. If you’re looking for a sign to try out proper good coffee, this is your sign. The staff were incredible, and so was the atmosphere. I have no more words! Simply love it?
Really great coffee here, among the best in town. The bagels are what I go for though. The NY lox is soooo flipping great. You should just go and get one, just go. They have vegan options for your vegan friends and did I mention they do really great coffee? They do. It's a really nice space with a great atmosphere. One of Melbourne's best. Get into it and get a bagel.
It's hard to imagine they can get it so wrong. I popped in for a bagel and I was quite taken aback when I saw the price - $24 for a salmon bagel. I decided to stay as I was short on time. After waiting 10 minutes for someone to take my order (less than 10 people in there), I had to wave someone over. When the bagel arrived it was not only the wrong type of bagel, I ordered sesame and got rye, it was untoasted and doughy, cold, and the toppings were so sparse that I had to ask for a serve of cream cheese on the side as it was spread so thinly it may as well have been butter. Oh, and the 'micro herbs' - a sprig of dill. Great space, but I wouldn't go back in a pink fit!
Very bad experience honestly.we are coming 7 ppl and were not expected two of my friend got kicked out from the shop just because they didnt do order for 5mins but us. Left 5 of us in cafe… how ridiculous whatever kind of treatment this is. Please please dont worry to come to this cafe at all. Food also so expensive just using a plain bagel for every breakfast.
The Black Betty was really nice very smooth. Affogatto was very strong, so if you really need a kick in the face to wake up, get that. Also very nice aesthetics inside. I didn't get one, but the sandwiches looked really good.
Good coffee and very cute venue, but don't go for the food. Super over priced at roughly $20 for a single bagels and the worst bagels we've had in Melbourne. Would be acceptable if a quarter of the price only. Bland, underdone, incredibly disappointing. Worth asking money back for. So sad. Try almost any of the other bagel houses in Melbourne. Unwarmed dry bagels, flavourless contents. Not sure they understand what a philli cheese steak is either. Expect a lot more from a sit down venue with non premade food.
