Maffco Brewery and Distillery reviews
16The food here is amazing loved the Tostado that much went back for another one. Very accommodating for allergies - made my glutard (gf) daughter a cheeseburger. Definitely coming back here again.
Awesome experience and can't wait to go back! Fresh local produce, great service and top value for money
Really like the beer had a good range on tap.the food was not really worth the money been to alot of brewery's and food was cheaper and more for your money.left feeling hungry
Below average in every way besides the building that the whole community has put lots of hard work into. Maffra has truly shined in creating such a beautiful space. It's a pity that the owners seem to have little experience in running a venue. I hope it improves!
I booked the balcony 9 weeks in advance for a private party, and 3 weeks out Maffco tried to move my party of 30 guests so they could fit in another party of 50 guests. When I expressed confusion I was told to see it from their point of view and they would be “missing out on money from the meals and drinks of the extra 20 people that they could have fit. ” They then told me I could stay as I did reserve it first, but I would now have to pay (I was previously told explicitly that there was no fee to reserve the balcony), share it with other parties, move to another space, or I could only have it until 7pm when the party of 50 came in and then we would have to move for them to take over. When I expressed I didn’t want to move and asked them to honour the original agreement, they then started to deny the arrangements of the booking altogether. They started to claim they never knew it was booked exclusively - untrue because when I was contacted by the Manager, she noted that she had two parties that both needed their own private space. They said because I couldn’t prove it it was ever booked I would have to chose one of the new options they had given me. I cancelled my booking altogether.
On another note, we ate there a couple of weeks ago when the new restaurant opened, and it was subpar at best.
Love everything that’s going on here, from the beer to the food to the paddock to plate concept
A hidden Gippsland secret.
Relatively new and hidden away off the main road. Staff were friendly, food was good. Recommend booking a table since a it very popular but otherwise a well kept secret.
Was looking forward to visiting maffco
Sadly I was quite disappointed
The venue was cold and the small heater in the corner was not able to adequately heat the vast space
The bar required more staff as you had to queue up for drinks every time and the drinks were overpriced
A staff member was heard telling another customer who questioned the cost that
“We are more up market than Newry “
Which was ironic as the food served was basic take away style at best
No napkins are provided and meals came out spasmodically with most of us receiving our mains prior to our entrees
After we asked 4 times for one of our entrees it finally arrived after we had all finished and was dry
One member of our party sent food back as it was cold only to have it returned microwaved including the salad which made it inedible
Upon mentioning this to one of the owners no apology was given and owner argued with me
Whatever happened to the customer is always right?
I hope they can work towards fine tuning the issues as I feel the venue could be great
Sadly our experience was not
Maffco has become a favourite for myself, my friends and family. The staff are so accommodating and the owners always make you feel welcome. The beer and food is fantastic and the venue itself is breathtaking. It’s so nice to see a beautiful old building with so much history be repurposed in to a fun, family friendly establishment. It’s our go-to venue.
Great food
Great atmosphere
Friendly staff
Cold tasty beer
Can see their "grand plan" and look forward to seeing it all come to fruition over the coming months
Will definitely be back
Went for a beer on the opening day (Sunday 18th) and was amazed by the set-up, the service, and the great selection of beers. While I didn't sample any, it looked like there was a decent selection of local wines and spirits as well.
Nice to see a family friendly outdoor area, very friendly vibe, and perfect for an afternoon beer in the sun.
The food truck arrangement was good, but it would be great to see two or three different trucks once things get established, especially on a summer night.
The potential for this venue is enormous, and I really look forward to seeing it develop over the next year.
Hopefully there'll be a courtesy bus in the future, so I can spend some time exploring the beer options.
I'm sure it will be good eventually. The venue is great. Disappointing visit for us, however. We arrived after 1pm to have lunch but the food truck hadn't opened yet - they don't do their own food at present. They have a good range of beers but none of their own. Despite the name they have only just had the brewing and distilling equipment delivered. We stayed for 20 minutes as we were starving and decided to go elsewhere. On the way out we talked to another couple who was leaving for the same reasons.
Absolutely fantastic location.
The renovation is top class and the staff are extremely pleasent.
The pizza was very good quality
Just an amazing building, so brilliantly restored and kitted out. Will be back again, very soon?
Fabulously repurposed building, now a gorgeous bar, brewery, and distillery (almost, final touches are being completed!) The owners and renovators have kept some stunning original decor items throughout, particularly the old tiled walls. Maffco will surely become an iconic venue in the region for weddings, parties, live music, anything really!
This place is epic! Beautifully restored building, great beer garden. Perfect for a casual drink. Definitely worth the detour.
