The service provided by Adam at Liquorland in Taylors Hill this afternoon was beyond appalling. As my family and I were completing some shopping at Coles with my 12-year-old son in tow, we decided to make a quick stop at Liquorland for a few items. While my wife took our son with her to browse the sparkling section, I scoured the store for some cider, but was unable to find it. However, my astute son quickly located the product and pointed it out to me on the shelf.

When we brought our products to the counter, Adam greeted us with a rude and condescending tone and informed us that he could not serve us due to our son pointing out the cider on the shelf. Unfortunately, we soon learned that according to Adam the store clerk, this act was a violation of some law and could result in a $28k fine for Adam, yes you are reading this correctly, Adam claimed he would get a 28 thousand dollar fine if he was caught allowing a minor, in the company of his parents and in year 7 school uniform, point to or refer to a product on Liquorlands shelves and then sell that same product to law abiding adults, his parents. There is no such law as Adam claimed, we know because we checked with the regulator, leading to the question, is Adam property trained for this position, does Adam have his Responsible Serving of Alcohol certificate and if not then Liquorland have some explaining to do.
We were humiliated, insulted and confused, and when we asked for an explanation, Adam could not provide one. Despite our request for clarification on the regulation, Adam became dismissive and unhelpful.

As we attempted to further address the issue, an impatient customer standing in line behind us became irate and began to swear at us. We politely asked the customer to mind their own business, but the situation escalated when Adam then demanded aggressively and through clenched teeth that I was to leave the store for our use of foul language, it is important to note that the use of vulagrity toward Adam the liquor clerk was not engaged by myself or my wife at any time and the obscenties all came from the impatient customer in the line. Strangely, Adam served the same aggressive and vulgar customer immediately after we exited the store despite the disgusting use of obscene language toward me by same.

At no time did our son attempt to purchase liquor. At not time did our son handle or consume liquor. My son was helping his adult parents do some shopping and potentially spend their hard earned money in this store.

I have it on good authority that the angry vulgar, crass customer was actually a loss prevention officer on duty in the store that clearly enjoys over stepping their duties and responsibilities and obviously did not understand what a loss prevention officers role actually is.
As this person involved himself in a minor discussion between a liquor clerk and a potential customer, using disgusting language and baiting me from a distance as I attempted to exit the store, he was so oblivious to his surroundings that he would not have seen a little old lady walk out the store with two slabs on her back, clearly no one in this liquor store knows or understands their roles and responsibilities.

It is unacceptable that Adam is employed as a liquor store clerk without a proper understanding of the RSA and liquor licensing act. We will be filing a complaint with both Adam's manager, Emma, and head office at Liquorland, as this was an egregious and unwarranted display of power from an overzealous employee. It is imperative that Adam receives proper training before he is allowed to interact with potential customers again.
We will never be stepping foot inside another liquorland store ever because of this.

Huge variety of Wine Spirits Beers and premixed drinks. Well stocked shelves. Clean and tidy store. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of parking with a good variety other retail stores and of course Coles.
Worth a visit.
