Lim's Nyonya Hut reviews
14Chicken rice and fried rice taste. CKT and Laksa are average. Reasonable price. I really like their nyonya kuih. Must try their sambal.
Mom and I liked the nasi goreng and assam laksa. We went today a Thursday at 2pm. It was quieter and suited us.
Back there again with mom today. A nice char hor fun and har mee. The pulut hitam is absolutely gorgeous. A must have.
A cendol at lunch today. Beautiful.
Good customer service friendly. The food is very average. I asked for nasi without sea food. I though I would get normal or bit more pork in it. I hardly saw any pork in my rice.only few small pieces if pork. Not worth it.
I had curry mee and onde onde kuih (it’s a sweet). Both were really delicious and I couldn’t quite find any fault.
Har Mee and Lor Mee were both authentic
This is a family run Malaysian restaurant, operated by an experienced nyonya chef who learned from a renowned chef in Penang, one of the origins of Nyonya food. The chef, Lim, is a passionate chef and he told me he made the dessert by hand, himself.
The couple who ran the restaurant are hardworking people. They recently opened so may still be learning and adjusting their services and operations.
I’d give them 5 stars as this is the place that I’d go back again and again.
- Easy and convenient location.
- great staff.
- amazing Nasi Goreng
- their curry laksa on the other table looked tempting too.
- quick service.
- good place for a quick lunch / bite.
- will be back to try the curry laksa next time.
Small local diner, seems always busy, taste is pretty decent, little pricey though, worth a visit!
Ok my favourite noodle place has been taken over but to my delight it has been taken over by Lim who ran and cooked at the Malaysian place at Syndal many years ago. Ordered a few dishes and brought back good memories with good spices
and depth of flavours. Will be back very shortly.
Greeted me when i enter the restaurant, friendly owner
Daily home made fresh kuih! Great ang kuh kuih, full of flavour
Small restaurant and can get busy at times
The food was either
- overly salty
- off-tasting (the prawn and stock was not fresh)
- frozen (the rendang was reheated improperly)
It's a health hazard incident waiting to happen
I was a big fan of Lim’s Nyonya Hut when they were operating on Blackburn Rd near Syndal station.
Was visiting them almost on a weekly basis for the curry laksa and CKT.
When I heard they’ve reopened, off I went on my first free Saturday.
Arrived around 11: 40am and the place was busy. Walked in and told the lady table for three. She directed us to a small table but there were only 2 chairs. I’ve waited for a while but nothing happened and I asked the lady is she bringing another chair from inside? She told me there’s no chair. Fine.
I asked if there is a waiting list so I can write down my name and I’ll wait outside the shop for the next available table, she told me no such list.
I went outside and more people arrived at the restaurant, they were also confused where is the queue and I think they ordered take away in the end.
Waited for 10 mins and a table became available, I walked in and ordered from the counter directly.
Ordered curry puff, CKT and curry laksa, my favorites!
Came the curry puff, it was hot. Could see it was fried on order. The pastry was so flat, oily and hence not flaky and crunchy.
Came the Curry laksa, the presentation itself was completely different to what I used to have. Let alone the taste and ingredients. I know I should not be comparing to the former restaurant, but this laksa is definitely below average. I would say 3/10 at its best.
CKT never arrived and had to remind them.
When it came, again, it was completely different to what I used to have in the former shop. It looks to me more like a stir fry flat rice noodle with beef rather than Penang CKT.
They used thinner rice noodles in the past and it was full of wok hei. This time, bland and dull.
The only plus point to this place was the self serve different types of chilli.
I recognized the chef, still the same chef. But disappointed how the taste is completely different now.
Stay away if you can - use rotten coriander as garnish & missed my dish's salad, when asked them, they simply give me 3 slice of the cucumber - yeah, it's pretty bad.
Ordered Char Kway Teow, just 2 prawns and hardly about 5 extreme thinly sliced chinese sausages and roughly eggs accompanied the rice noodles. Laksa soup was like watered down. Overall could do better because just like me, most people don’t mind paying for a good food. Should give it to them for the Kueh kueh, was awesome.
Chak koay teow taste is not bad but short of pork lard taste and use the wide thick koay teow, otherwise will be perfect. The belachan sambai taste great, the spiciness just right. Heard hokkien mee is his best in the hut.
Not for dine in- probably more take away. To support and to improve in the tastes, please visit and order your favourite and give feed back to encourage the “chef/cook” who probably tired very hard to prepare some authentic dishes… and be prepared to come out with the deep fried smelling all over you!
