Licola Wilderness Village reviews
14 Very economical and scenic place. The residential area is rustic and more like a hostel, so don't expect high standards.
Location itself is vey peaceful and a gateway to so many camp sites and offroad tracks.
The Wilderness village has a lot of activities for kids to enjoy but you need to confirm with the administration before booking as the staff may be not available during public holidays.
Having been going to licola for nearly a decade all things must change. Some for the better some for the worse. Rooms are same as always except they have a extraction fan from the common room which sucks the heater (or AC in summer) into the bedrooms. Bathrooms are still worse for wear, although there is infinity hot water installed and the water is a good temp.communal kitchen has seen better days.
Biggest sticking point is for all the years been going there the very basic accommodation was bearable by the very cheap price and ability cater to larger groups.
Group catering is still there but it is no longer cheap and for the amenities you get here you could almost spend the same $$$ at a caravan park and get a modern private cabin for everyone in your group.
It's ashame to see the place become what it has but have made many memories here and seen alot of our friends kids grow up to become young adults.
Thanks for the memories licola might see you around!

It belongs to the Lions club so its privatised basically. Impossible to access the river from the public areas near the bridge. You have2 be a paid visitor to one of the camps which have accessable river frontage. Without a 4wd you can't really go much further. Its a lovely scenic drive there but not much once u get there
Picturesque naitch. Stunning spot of countryside. Swimming against the river current was invigorating. Camping on spike-free lush grass was lux on my barefeet. Already looking forward to returning here.
I enjoyed our stay here however my only problem is the lack of communication. It was easy to make a booking however hard to continue communication with staff. I was not able to get a hold of anyone after I booked. Leading up to the stay I wasn't sure what was happening anymore due to the lack of communication and I didn't want to drive 3 to 4 hours away just to be turned down.
We had a very poor experience here unfortunately. We booked 2 cabins for my daughters birthday for 20 people. Drove over 2 hours to get there only to be met with extremely dirty cabins. Mouse poo and dirt in Cupboards, stains and dirt over beds and carpet, looked like they hadn't had a decent clean in a long time. We left straight away and relocated our group elsewhere. We did get a full refund, however no apology at all, communication wasn't great.
Stayed here for 2 days and 2 nights. Wonderful experience, gorgeous place with loads to do for the whole family.
If you like nature then must visit this place. No mobile coverage so you can spend time with family.
Lot of activity to do but you need to make sure instructors are available on your booking dates.
This is the most wonderful place!
I came here every Easter for many years with my family and a big group!
Its my happy place!
Its been a long time but I still think about this beautiful place and the fun I had here.
I wish I could go back.
There is no place like this anywhere!
What an amazing place for the family. I want to say thank you to whole team especially Brook and Cam.you guys were great
So I wasn't at Licola by choice:) I came as a SA CFS strike team leader for the fires in March. But I have to say, the location is lovely and the accommodation is organised in 'houses' with individual bedrooms accommodating 4 or so people. Decent quality accommodation. The only issue I had with the accommodation is the lack of mobile signal, which I personally didn't mind but the 30 firefighters in the strike team missed rather badly. But not being contactable is actually a delight too:)
The Licola valley in a normal time would be utterly delightful. The river passing by the campsite would be just ideal for sitting with a glass of red in the evening, mozzies not withstanding.
The road up into the high country affords excellent views and is a must-do, of course. There appears to be some really nice looking camping spots along Kelly's lane, but you'd need a decent high clearance 4WD. Didn't really get a chance to extensively explore this trip due to being on-duty!
I will be returning as a paying customer sometime, maybe next year after the country has had a chance to heal a little. We both love the high country.
A fantastic hideaway for a large group nestled in a valley along the McAlister River. A fantastic festival of 2000ppl is held there in May called 'The Town'. Such a lovely experience in a setting of beauty, comfort and amenity. Cabins, trampolines, rock climbing, canoeing, zip line, etc. Owned and run by Lions groups.
