Le Petit Bistro reviews
27Good service, unique menu and tasty meals. Wine selection to match various cuisine was excellent.
Lovely atmosphere and have been here twice. I think this restaurant must have changed hands from the chef that was here in 2020? My partner requested medium to well cooked eye fillet.came out basically blue. They even butterflied it and still stuffed it up. For 47 dollars this is pretty meh. My partner was loathe to order dessert but my creme brullee was ok. I received a glass that was cracked and this was replaced promptly.
The waitress did a great job as they seemed understaffed.
Probably will give this place a miss moving forward.
The food is OK, service friendly but not at the level one would expect. Overall a good place for quiet meal if you could not be bothered.
Great ambience, exceptional service and authentic food. Second time here - recommend the duck confit, although you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.
A beautiful French restaurant with amazing staff and perfect cuisine. Will.be going back as soon as possible!
A perfect French restaurant where you feel you are dining in a French household. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. All of the favourite french dishes are on offer. The staff were wonderful and attentive. Highly recommended if you love French food and a great atmosphere.
Really good food in a small place but a little bit of attitude and arrogance from one of their senior staff and no special treat for the birthday person.
Wife was a little apprehensive about some of the reviews regarding the service before booking but decided to give it a try for our date night nonetheless.
I’m glad she did.
Was a late dinner for us but we were warmly welcomed in at 815. The place was full with most diners on their desserts.
It’s somewhat dimly lit, with posters and photos of all things France framed and posted around the wall. A fireplace and some French music in the background rounds up the ambiance.
The service, we didn’t get any of the snobbery we read about. There was only the owner and a young French waitress on that night. They tended to us well, entertained my stupid questions and were friendly at the same time and offered to take photos for us when we were struggling with selfies. No issues here at all.
As for the food. Classic French bistro done well.
Entree: duck rillette was served with pickled cucumbers, walnuts and house bread. It’s good, something we would find France. The cheese soufflé was puffy and had a nice bland of cheese, none over powering all balanced in harmony. The acidic side salad served the purpose to refresh the mouths after each bite.
Mains: The beef cheeks was melt in the mouth tender, swimming in a thick gravy served with mash. The farmhouse rabbit also tender, served with carrots and mash with a delicious sauce with hints of celery and mustard, a nice balance of acidity.
Had a glass of Bourgogne Pinot and syrah to wash it all down.
First time I’d been here. Everything was fantastic. Beautiful scallop entree then beautiful beef bourguignon all washed down with a great wine from the wine list. Went back for lunch even better the second time
Haven’t had this amazing French food fair for so long. Exceptional service, extraordinary food. Entree duck pate is a must try. Beef Tartare a common dish in French, this one is one of the best I have tried in Melbourne. Main is equally amazing and the French fries is just delicious. Exquisite wine collections and will definitely visit again. The only disappointment is that we were busy enjoying the food and wine, didn’t get a chance to take food photo for show case.
Probably the best eye fillet I have ever had. And the tart tatin was amazing, as good as any you can have in Paris
Very nice Wine list as we
Unfortunately, the food and service were both quite average. Shortly before leaving, a waiter was quite rude to my husband and I, presumably because we didn't finish our food. We didn't finish our food simply because it just wasn't that good. Despite the fact we made no complaints whatsoever and paid the bill, we weren't expecting to be treated like that. Won't be back.
I attended the restaurant last night, in a party of three. When opening the door we were welcomed by two French waiters. Straight from the moment we walked in, 1 of the waiters came across as being arrogant and unwelcoming. We ordered a bottle of French sparkling and our entree and main meals. Immediately it felt like the waiter was trying to up sell to make us spend more. I ordered a fried Calamari, big mistake, a French restaurant would not normally have it on the menu, so I was I intrigued, but it was nothing more than chewy squid rings. For my main, I ordered a Beef cheek bourguignon, the beef cheek was soft and delicate, but the sauce was significantly lacking, there was very little taste of red wine and it was very one dimensional. Overall, you can get better food elsewhere at the price they have in their menu.
Cosy atmosphere offering high quality traditional French options. Service was warm and friendly. The only complaint is that the restaurant does not cater well for a gluten free diet - no gf bread or crackers available at all.
Small French restaurant food is average very salty.
Service is arrogant with young waiter.
No value compared to other French restaurants and the quality that is offered around melb.
$30 dollar corkage per bottle is a bit over the top!
Definitely would not recommend this place to try when there are so many better or even hatted French restaurants in melb at the same price that will not let you down.
Disappointing at the moment so I would say avoid.
I booked a table for two on a Saturday night in late June and I was left pleasantly surprised with my experience. I ordered an aperitif and a bottle of moderate red to start, I enjoyed the duck liver parfait and an onion soup as the entree. Both were very yummy, although the soup was the stand out. It was salty and sweet with a top layer of melted cheeses and crusty bread-divine!
I then had a main of beef cheeks with a quenelle of mashed potato and a side of green beans. Again, the beef was just holding together and came apart at the first touch of my fork. I can’t fault the food at all! My desert was the trusted apple tarte tartin and a hot shot of espresso and it was the perfect end to a night of excellent food, great service, and an overall intimate experience. I was in two minds about reviewing this place as I would imagine that secret gems like this tend to lose their intimacy once they get too popular. But for an amazing French dining experience with a smart casual atmosphere and friendly service, please check out this little treasure.
The service was nothing short of excellent, and we enjoyed our food thoroughly. I dined on the same night as the reviewers Jt East and Gavin who gave the only 1 star reviews this restaurant has. These two reviewers caused a scene in the restaraunt and the way they described the lovely staff in their reviews is just the begining as to how I would describe them. They consistently tried to hold the restaurant hostage by reminding them of their ability to destroy their reputation with bad reviews, so it is no surprise to see they have tried to do just that. I encourage you to try for yourself instead!
What an awesome little French restaurant - very authentic. The fresh bread and butter was incredible and the meals are also really well sized. We also had a really great bottle of wine that went with everything. Croquettes and parfait I recommend!
This is an extremely good French restaurant serving fantastic tasting food along with friendly good service plus a great feel to the place.
The crab croquettes where very good, along with the eye fillet, cooked perfectly.
Also, was very impressed with the wine list and enjoyed a bottle of Chorey-les-Beaune
What a wonderful little find! My husband and I enjoyed dinner here last night and thoroughly enjoyed.well.everything. From the food (delicious), service (friendly, welcoming and considerate) to the ambience (elegant and warm). Le Petit Bistro is a delight and we will most certainly be visiting again very soon. Thank you for a delightful experience!
