La Roca Boulders reviews
19 2024 - Updating my review as I have floated from gym to gym & have come back as a member.
Coffee: 5/5 - a necessity in Melbourne.
Routesetting: 5/5 - more complexity than some other gyms, requiring problem solving, creativity & good flow.
Training: 5/5 (24 Hour Annex) - equipped for your training needs.
Community: 5/5 - Not the biggest gym in the area but not a limiting factor, stay here for the good vibes from the Staff and other climbers.
The staff is super professional, the whole time they were attentive to my friend and me who are beginners.
The sets were great, not just a dyno fest, hard moves at higher levels lots of interesting and different climbs
Clean gym, good range of gym equipment and spray/moon boards.
Staff friendly, good facilities
My favourite climbing gym and place to train. Great coffee, community and atmosphere. Super friendly.
Beautifully crafted climbing gym. I find it has more unique holds, angles and styles. Spacious and good util. There is a separate area/annex focused around training. Friendly staff and community. Dog friendly too of course.
The only negative after going here for a bit, is on warmer days, I feel like I'm cooking like a rotisserie chicken. Coffee is beautiful though, drinkable straight away vs other places which are immediate fiery chaos in your mouth.
Coffee: 5
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 4
Nacho was an extremely welcoming and warm worker! I'm new to bouldering, and was extremely intimidated. Nacho made sure I felt comfortable and had a lot of fun!
Lovely staff and climbs here. Also why is some of the best coffee I've ever had in Melbourne at a climbing gym in Oakleigh?
I find la roca to be quite a gem out of all the climbing gyms with it's tight community and climbs that are simply beautiful to climb with fun moves. It's also awesome to see the recent update of the gym with it having a 24/7 access gym facultys and 3 spray walls with different angles (15°, 30° and the barrel which is made up of three different angles)
I cannot speak highly enough of this place. The staff and the people that climb here are very friendly.
Before coming to La Roca I had never been to a climbing gym.
During my safety brief, Chris (employee) made an extended effort to make sure I was across the basics so I could climb with confidence. I have since fallen in love with the sport.
Thanks to the guys and girls at La Roca.
Awesome. Combination of fun and challenging climbing with a properly equipped gym and 24/7 access is unparalleled in Victoria. This place is fantastic.
The annex is iconic. So god damned good, and air conditioned! So good on a hot day and the staff are lovely. Good for all skill levels
LA ROCAAAAA. Friendly staff, great environment and fun climbs.
Classic LA ROCAAAA type of vibes.
Fantastic routes, fun and friendly staff and great atmosphere. Clearly run by people who are there for the love of climbing and not just the money like some other gyms. Love this place and love supporting it
Been coming here for awhile now. Great community and fun climbs that change regularly. Its definitely smaller than other gyms, but it kindda gives you this cozy feeling imo
For someone new to bouldering, the gym is a nice size that you don't get lost with what to do. Enough beginner problems to get you progressing. Friendly and helpful staff and climbers. Facilities are clean. Coffee is great. Good value to start with their Starter Pack. The routes are reset regularly enough that you don't run out of problems to solve. Ít is a fun physical activity to do on a weekly basis for me.
The main bouldering gym always has heaps interesting climbs with regularly reset walls. They also have excellent coffee with many plant milks. The new Annex area next door has Stokt walls, new gym equipment, stretching mats and 24/7 access for members to Annex, which is great for summer.
Google asked me to rate this place based on my visit of their website. Was a good website, had some nice dogs on it.
Great climbing centre with amazing coffee! The new weights area and splash wall is a huge addition.
Best boulder gym in Melbourne if you want to get outside.
Generous and friendly staff, they love what they do and it shows. They are largely ignoring the fashions in commercial, indoor, comp inspired setting and understand the demands of real rock climbing. Engaging problems for all levels. Excellent training zone in the Annex. Their three different spray walls contain a lifetime of hard moves, a huge investment of excellent holds, some of which are hand made in-house. The degree of sandbagging is sometimes staggering, which I don't intend as a compliment but Australians seem to always take as one so go figure.
