Kurth Kiln picnic area reviews
20Great walking tracks or just wonder around near by if not into walking. Toilets available if needed too.
Here is a place for you to chill and relax, walk around the nature, side seeing are one of the activities here.you may jump into the stream to cool yourself down a little, or walk into the creek, along the stream to find out what’s happening.we saw some wild lizards, no life form in the stream, but some of the plant you don’t see very often.the kiln are definitely something you may interested in.old but telling some story ️
Lovely little spot close to Melbourne. Good bbq and picnic facilities. Well maintained drop toliets (designated mens and womens.what? Why?) Lots of walking/fire trails too. But no bins so PLEASE be prepared to take your rubbish away with you.
Excellent place for picnic. Not busy at all and there is a toilet nearby. The Kurth kiln trail is excellent.
I love this picnic area. There's quite a few actually. One near the water and couple of other just up the hill. The walk along the creek is really nice. We didn't do the full loop walk, but will be going back again for sure.
Great spot to camp. I only went on one trail walk, which I enjoyed; circling around the creek, passing by wombat burrows with signs along the trail with good information about the local area, winding back around to the old kiln. The creek was absolutely lovely, the water cool and fresh, perfect on a hot day.
Since it is a popular spot to camp, there were some downsides - hard to get clear of neighbours' noise (some is alright but if you want to be more isolated just worth knowing.) All our neighbours were lovely, and it was kinda nice seeing the horse riders pass by.
Please also remember to clear your rubbish and help take care of the place. We found old rubbish at the camp site we ended up picking and ended up doing a big sweep before we left to take old decaying plastics with us - that spot was right uphill of the creek and I worry that it won't stay so lovely and drinkable if current and future campers disrespect the space so much. The area is gorgeous and deserves much more care than that. We must all do our part to ensure the forest is healthy for years to come. And it is - the wildlife was amazing and thriving even though there were campers everywhere. It was pretty magical to be doing yoga one morning and be interrupted by a giant goanna. The shade was cool, the birds were singing. Very meditative place to be.
Nice quiet picnic ground, good walk along the river. History of the Kiln, drop Toilets. Camping available near road above grounds. Great place if you like historic sites and bush walking.
Good place to go camping part from people dumping there garbage and a few legal campers who live there, there place puts you of camping next to become it looks like trash full of jank and you only a loud to stay there only for 30 days not for years
Plenty of space to camp and some nice peaceful walks. A bit rowdy on the weekends, but to be expected from a free campsite.
Wonderful walks, interesting buildings and perfect for an overnight bush camp without sacrificing hours of travel time
Nice free camp area would be nice if it was monitored a little more though for the general safety of all campers
Great park with lots to see. Does get busy during holiday season. With daylight savings it make an excellent twilight walk. Now there are neat fireplaces for campfire cooking. Well worth the drive and accessible with a normal car.
Awesome little get away, quiet and minimalistic so be prepared if you like hot showers, but the community vibe is on point.
If you enjoy bush camping, then this is quite a good location, not to far out from the suburbs as well.
I have not camped there, just gone for picnics with the family because it is nice and close, and you can have a fire. The fire pits are cast iron with a swinging hot plate and kettle arm, just great. The toilets are just drop toilets, but we'll maintained.
Overall is a we'll maintained picnic and camping ground. The "freinds of kirth kilns" do a great job
Well maintained by the passionate Friends of Kurt Kiln makes the area inviting! Clean and family friendly! Contact the Friends of Kurt Kiln if you like a lengthy walk/hike around the massive parkland! Healthy Park healthy people. So good to see such strong links and it reflects in the environment!
Pretty little picnic area, fairly quiet as all the campers are further up the road.
The short loop is an easy walk, peaceful and lovely, except the last bit when you walk past all the cars and tents at the camping section just before the kiln.
Note: There are a lot of wasps which will appear as soon as you lay out any food at the picnic tables. We set aside a plate of scraps further away from our table which seemed to attract the majority of them, but there were so many still hanging about.
Note 2: Set your map destination for Kurth Kiln picnic area, not Kurth Kiln regional park. They are not one and the same on the map. The latter will have you going for a magical mystery tour through some back roads more suitable for a 4WD before reaching the picnic area.
Have camped here many times. Good simple facilities for families and groups. Normally a good atmosphere up near the kiln. The yobbos usually stay down near the dam. The annual heritage festival is an excellent small area festival that's utterly non commercial. The kiln is a surviving bit of history within a natural bush setting that seemingly goes on forever.
Great place for family days - picnic area, lots of nice bumpy tracks for 4wd and walking trails
Nice spot with lots of little trails to walk. You can even take your dog as long as you keep it on a lead. Mostly shaded by trees.
I spent almost a week here and met lovely people!
The sites were clean and reasonably flat with a couple different ways to access the campground. Plus, from here there is plenty to see. Bushwalking, short drives to the Puffing Billy train or Ship Rock Falls etc
There were also toilets (I assume drop ones) I have a compost toilet in my van so I never had to investigate but everyone else seemed quite happy with them. There was water from a creek somewhere too you could use for your dishes but again, I had enough with me so I didn’t make it down that way to see.
I was told by regulars that you can camp up to 28days and they have taken the fees away so it’s free now. First come, first served basis but it wasn’t too busy when I went and I had a lovely time.
