My partner and I had dinner here. The service from the waitress was exceptional. 5/5

We ordered a chef selection - feed me menu. One vegetarian and one carnivore. No worries at all. Thanks, Chef.

The dishes overall were very good, with a couple of minor exceptions. I won't discuss all the dishes here.

To start, my oyster was perfect. It came with a Bloody Mary sauce. It was a really cold, fresh oyster.

My pork belly was fatty, which is good, but it was undercooked and not juicy. All I could taste was cold fat. But the cucumber side dish worked really well to balance the fattiness.

The taro chips were stale, unfortunately.

My partners vegetarian dishes were good too, but it's hard to nominate an outstanding dish.

The wine list is very good, and the dessert is delicious.

The beer selection was ok but limited.

The only real negative is that the tables for 2 people are so close together that it's difficult to have a conversation without listening to someone next to you. On both sides. I felt really cramped and uncomfortable, to be honest.

There are booths that are spacious, and 2 people were sitting in one booth, which I would highly recommend.

Apparently, this is a sister restaurant to Kekou, in Bridge Road, Richmond, which is an exceptional restaurant.

You won't leave hungry with the chefs selection. There's a lot of good food.

So good! Highly recommend. Here’s what we had:
Starters: Oysters
Entrees: Wagyu beef skewer, Mushroom croquette, Lobster mantou roll, Hiramasa kingfish tartare
Main: Black opal MB9 flank
This place is nothing short of amazing. Feels like a hatted restaurant.

Booked Klae for a birthday celebration for 2 - the venue was amazing; large bar, dim lighting, would be great for a date night!

I personally loved the entrees here! The half dozen of oysters were chilled and tasted extremely fresh. The lobster mantou baos are a must-get! The lobster meat with the roe is just so flavourful

we opted for crispy chicken karaage & hakka style grilled pork belly - both which were delicious i recommend ordering some vegetables/sides or an acidic drink to cut the fattiness of both, especially the pork belly as it was a little heavy towards the end eating it by itself.but the pork belly was extremely tender, and the charred pineapple bits gave the dish a bit more dimension! The chicken karaage was juicy, and batter was light!

also rly enjoyed my cocktail - archer, which is a tropical mix typa cocktail

we did put down a note that it was for a birthday celebration, but we didn’t get any celebratory message (not even a greeting) which was a little disappointing, but i guess it isn’t an expectation, just a side note

A casual and friendly fine dining experience in a sophisticated and ambient setting. French/Vietnamese fusion cuisine at its best. I'd go back in a heart beat

Found this little slice of heaven by accident, but was very grateful to have done so. We thoroughly enjoyed each course of the feed me menu, every creative cocktail we tried & the helpful and friendly customer service. We’re excited to return.

Very nice experience, enjoyed the night with my boyfriend. The service was good, everyone was nice.
The tofu was really good, a very good starter, highly recommend.
The beef was extremely soft, super tender. The sauce was a bit strange though.

Klae is a fantastic addition to swan street, everything was so flavoursome. The sauces were incredible. Meat cooked perfectly. Oysters fresh. If I had to recommend one dinner place in Richmond this would be it. You must try it for yourself. Our server was incredibly friendly as well. I commend them on being so friendly, I wish I had caught their name. The whole team was friendly however. I might just add that the lamb and the fish are two of my favourite dishes that I have eaten, ever. Must try. I will definitely be back. Skip lunch on the day you go so you can eat more at klae.

What an outstanding place. Fabulous fit-out, first class service and the food simply delicious and outstanding. The only blemish is a rather limited and expensive wine list. Will be heading back soon.

We’d heard that the sister restaurant to Kekou was meant to be outstanding, so were eager to make a booking here for dinner. To my surprise, it was not what I had expected.

Firstly, it shocked me to have sat down and placing my long winter coat by my seat as nobody offered to hang it. Not two minutes later, the same wait staff asked an older customer who had arrived after us if she could hang her coat… it felt ageist and as though they prioritised their older customers who they assumed would spend more money. This became apparent throughout our meal, as they were served almost exclusively throughout the entire session before us. It was awkward.

Structurally, Klae is an in an ideal location and the interior has great mood lighting. Although, serveral times the dimeness shifted settings, at times making it so dark I was struggling to even see the food infront of me.

The music was also not suited for the restaurant, playing very poppy and Tayla Swift-themed remixes throughout our time there.

Our waitress was very friendly, however it was obvious she was rushed off her feet, often going from one end of the restaurant to the other. It was clear the staff were not organised into sections, and more to covering the entire floor.
Some of the wait staff were not proactively looking at tables to see if we wanted to have our water topped up, or if we wanted to order, which was quite strange.

The food was tasty, however the menu itself is clunky and confusing as a whole. There was a mix of heavily fried barrrundi and authentic seafood tartare. The Mundi was also over cooked and sluggy.

The standout what the kingfish tartare.
The cocktails were also a impressive, and I observed the barman work nonstop the entire time making incredible drinks.
Overall, the restaurant was good, and we’d like to come and try some of the other dishes that weren’t so heavy. I’d reccomend anyone to order a side salad as a palette cleaner, as some of the dishes were dense.

The takeaway for us was that this establishment has the ability to live up to its potential, however it falls short with some of the service and the unusual mix of wanting to be a fine dining restaurant, but has Taylor Swift references nuanced throughout the menu and interior?
Definitely overpriced and a real shame, as we were eager to visit this place

Every dish we ordered here was excellent in taste and presentation. All the unique Asian inspired flavours were just divine.

I highly recommend the Master stock braised lamb ribs, crispy on top and the rest just melted in my mouth.
Even a simple sounding side dish like the Smashed cucumber salad was so good.

We had 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 sides and the bill came up to $60 a head. The price is reasonable given the quality of food, atmosphere and level of service.

A perfect night out. This restaurant gets better every time I visit. Personal favourite on the menu is San Choy Bao. The drinks menu is also great with a fun cocktail list (pls order the vegemite cocktail) The staff are gorgeous and service is amazing.

Yummy dinner at @klae_richmond tonight. I kept it light with just the beef cheek claypot and a couple of beers. They delivered it quickly and it was popping with flavour. I’ll come back and try the pork dish next time.

We really enjoyed everything here. We tried many of the starters and small plates. Next time we will try a large plate or two. Pink lady cocktail was the best thing my wife has tasted. The staff were very friendly, cool and helpful. Thanks for a nice night.

Pretty underwhelming and overpriced for what it is. The food wasn’t bad, but for Asian food, there was a huge lack of flavour.

Amazing!
Menu choices were excellent, I liked the choice of small or large mains. We had endamame beans for an entree. They were sublime. Three large mains plus rice was sufficient for 4 people. Tofu dish most memorable for me, braised lamb, smoked beef cheek, and shared dessert️
Service excellent, decor on point, book a booth it's more intimate.
We trained it as it is a quick walk from Richmond Station.

Wonderful food, lovely ambience. Service was a bit inconsistent - when we got attention they were great, but it oddly felt like they were deliberately avoiding our eye contact as we tried to order more drinks or place our food order.

The menu offered at Klae is exceptional, and so was the service provided by the staff members. This restaurant is a must go if you want to broaden your palette. Plenty of Gluten free options available.

We walked in for our date night and thank goodness as this was a fantastic fusion of flavours, combined with amazing service in a modern industrial/fusion atmosphere in the heart of Richmond.

We were greeted by Jake who led us to our table despite them being busy, followed up by a wonderful and detailed overview of the offerings by menu or Klae.

The venue is a mix of modern / industrial with a really cool atmosphere. Standard table seating as well as booth style and street view seating is available and the amazing staff will work hard to cater for you if needed.

Our amazing server in Evie (I hope I spelled that correctly) gave us more detail on the chef selection and following her description we opted for this. So glad we did as it offered all of the following tasty plates for $79pp.

Starters included:
Edamame cooked in an amazing fusion
Todu crustinis
Beef skewers with marinated onion delight
Bloody Mary oysters YUM

First plate was:
The kingfish ceviche
Lamb ribs - my favourite

Second plate ended the meal with the:
Beef cheek hot pot
Smoked chicken with Asian fusion rice and lotus

Sides included Rice and Charred cabbage with pesto and garlic.

Not a fault to find in the meals with all balanced to perfection, ordered to the correct order for the palate and to the perfect size to share. We ended contently full however we couldn’t try the dessert offers but will next time (thanks Jake and Evie).

A huge shout out to both Jake and Evie for making our night a beautiful one from the moment we walked through the door, to our service (even with one arm!) and then to finish off with Adele for a laugh. A great team that the business should be proud of.

Most definitely be returning for the desserts and more of the tasty menu.

Five star service and food you most definitely must try when in Richmond
