Jonker Street Restaurant Mount Waverley reviews
59'I love their homemade tofu' that's from kid's comment. The curry chicken is another one you can't miss really authentic taste best with rice. Vegemite chicken rib taste really good. Very satisfied dinner.
First time eating here. May have picked the wrong dishes but for sure I did not enjoy the barramundi with imperial sauce. I could not bear the strong smell of fermented bean curd: too overpowering. If it had been subtle, maybe ok.
The pipies were yummy. I ordered kuih dadar and was flummoxed! Worst dadar ever eaten. The crepe skin was tough and chewy, the coconut brown sugar filling was not tasty. I tried not to waste food but just could not eat tgat kuih dadar.
Next time I will try their signature dishes
If I return …
I gave to say service was ok but we had to wait each time to capture attention of the 2 ladies. Restaurant had 3 other tables occupied, so not busy
Variety choices, nice ambience, friendly courteous staff, food is very on point. Have to keep coming back to try more.
Average Malaysian food in quiet SE suburb spot. Food was ok, good work hei in noodle dishes, but felt the WahTan Hor had wayyy too much egg gravy to make the dish look bigger. Char Kway Teow noodles were also different using pho like thin noodles.
The desserts were excellent, would def recommend the cendol!
Ordered BBQ Pork wonton mee. The wonton soup tasted sour and acidic. The wonton skin was too starchy and thick. The pork filling for the wonton was disgusting. They put huge chunks of diced pork in and it had an acidic taste and lacked flavour. Very little effort was put into making this dish.
Had the crispy noodle w egg gravy & wat tan hor. It's tasty, great portion & most importantly, there's wok hei:) will return again. Ohw, the curry puff is pretty good too, with flaky pastry & right amount of spice in the filling.
Old favourite, lost the plot
It would appear that the seating times on a Saturday and Sunday are limited to 6pm and 7.30. This results in a lot of patrons showing up at the one time and resulted in both the wait staff and kitchen staff not coping well. Its never a good sign to see staff running or waiting 45 mins for food. To add to the problem it looked as though the kitchen was prioritising take away or delivery food orders.
Some dishes like deep fried fish had obviously been fried earlier and then a second fry as the fish meat was a dehydrated. The butter prawns were tasty however more heads than bodies. I will be on the look out for a new Malaysian restaurant.
Great place for family gatherings. They have a lovely variety of dishes to share. I recommend trying their Yam Ring w/ Chicken and Cashews dish. It was delicious. Their Deep Fried Whole Barrundi and Sizzling Homemade Bean Curd dishes were also pleasant. They have small range of classic Malaysian desserts available as well (e.g. Cendol, Ice Kacang).
Any Malaysian restaurant that charges for chilli or sambal should be boycotted. Malaysian cuisine is enjoyed with sambal as a standard accompanyment. Fair enonugh if you pay for extra chilli/sambal, but the first serve should be part of the meal
Fabulous and loveable food ever in Melbourne. We ordered the cny banquet menu on new year eve, when it's came the portion is big. We love the atmosphere in the restaurant where everyone happy and talk very loud. Definitely will come back again for another dishes.
I originally gave 5 stars
I take it back went again for dinner. My rice was legit rock hard and over cooked it made a sound when you tap it. No apologies from staff.
Your Asian restaurant and your service rock hard rice what’s going through the chefs mind as he plates that.
I’m local to area will not return again.
Serves nice Chinese Malaysian food.
The ice kacang dessert really nice too.
Generally they serve nice food like chicken ribs with egg yolk, Bitter Mellon, egg plants, Barramundi Thai sauce and many more.
WILL NEVER VISIT, BUT ALWAYS RATE 5 STARS! NO DISCRIMINATION! 1 CENT STILL WORKS! MAKE A WISH.
Disgusting chicken congee, there was two pieces of chicken in it each about 2cm long the rest was just chicken skin and tendons. The congee itself was bland af.
I like the dishes at this restaurant. The yam ring with kung pao chicken is a personal favourite. The assortment of fried fish dishes are all quite tasty. I recommend the butter prawns as well. Top off your meal with ice kacang for the win.
A restaurant with absolutely no service attitude, waited 30 minutes for a simple lunch, and finally did not place an order
I order this through the Uber delivery apps and! And it was not fresh at all! I ordered the roasted chicken …the bone was black and very very disgusting.the skin was dry and hard.
I have only been there for a take away. I have two concerns based on which I have given them 3 stars.
One, it took over 20 minutes to get a single dish out even when the restaurant was less than half full. Most of the workers seemed free.
Two, for a Malaysian restaurant, they have almost no vegetarian dishes. So, for people like me who are often with vegetarians in their group, or is not a good option.
Anyway, I'll have to dine in to see how the restaurant actually is.
So much food and they are all so tasty. We had Kam heong Prawns, Marmite ribs, Nyonya fish curry and Tofu with mince. If going in a large group the Nyonya fish curry is a good value so much sauce for all to mop it up. They only take phone reservations for bookings for over 6 people, so the smaller crowds will have to wait for a slot, our wait was only about 10 mins, so that’s pretty ok. We will return.
Yesterday I went with friends to Jonker Street Mt Waverley for lunch.
I ordered CharSiu wonton mee and my friend ordered chicken with rice.
The taste of eggnoodles were nothing to write home about.
A few pieces of BBQ pork with lots of fat.
There were three pieces of wonton skin with virtually no wonton filling.
An honest description of that dish would be. BBQ pork and wonton skin with egg noodles.
As for my friend's chicken with rice. The chicken was uncooked. We got the waitress over and showed her and she said "But it has been cooked twice! "
Any of the Asian eateries in Glen waverley would have done much better in quality, value and service.
Sorry Jonkers Mt Waverley you have lost the plot and us as customers.
