Johnsonville Black Stump General Store reviews
20The Black Stump General Store, has the conveniences you need, could be more stock for locals needing it, but the staff each time are very good, and the food is always very good and cooked well, hot and prices reasonable considering it's a general store to serve local residents, tradies and tourists and others passing by. The store is clean which is important.
Always freshly prepared sandwiches and bread rolls, pies and other food. Great place to stop for lunch.
We just stopped on our way through, desperate for some brekkie for our travels
Omg the pies were absolutely amazing
The coffee, also amazing
Car mood 100% with happy full tummies
Hi, I am ian, I attended the church next to the black stump on there yearly anniversary, I would bring my mother phyllis and her brother Denis, both deceased now. The black stump supplied the refreshments for the churches anniversary each year. I would like to shout out a big thankyou to all that helped provide. I would also like to share a couple of photos that I have posted of a mantle clock that was bought from a johnsonville store back in the year 1870, bought for 30/- bought by Edward foley. The clock is still working and sits at my entrance hall here at home. Thankyou all so much. Ian foley.
Sorry to say we had a coffee which was OK but the dim sims and potato cakes were absolute rubbish either re cooked or over cooked in oil that had no life left in it, binned the food.
The store is convenient serving quick take away and eat in as well as general groceries and a post office. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Good place to visit, friendly staff nice food. The only is with things like bacon and egg rolls etc, is they can be almost cold when you buy. But always taste good.
Staff very unfriendly especially the kids
put chicken salt on my chips instead of plain salt.
Good bloke named mack served me, he was polite, should give him a raise.darcy holland also served me a coffee and the coffee was great, give darcy a raise
Johnsonville - Do Not Blink or you will miss it! Nestled on the Princess Highway 300km from Melbourne and half way between Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance. 30-35 Years Ago when i was lucky enough to be considered an honorary local this little shop was the heart of this tiny community and was Owned By Truly Decent People (Bob and Val Walton). Unfortunately I'm told now it's all about the Coin! But this little bump on a Highway has more to offer than a shop, petrol station and caravan park. Do yourself a favour and turn right down Punt Rd and introduce yourself to the Tambo River. One of the most beautiful rivers this state has to offer.
Lovely general store with an attached side dining area. Meat pies are superb, great spot to stop between Lake's Entrance and Bairnsdale.
The BEST pies. I've lived in Australia for 10 years since moving from NZ, and I've finally found a meat pie that matches those back in NZ. For those Kiwis out there - you'll know this is high praise indeed:)
Worker back stabing other workers food ordered sat down outside she was told & food was made & left on counter by same rude lady we were not even told its ready she should not have a job.
Good clean shop. Due to covid conditions it was a little slow to be served. Food was food and so was coffee.
Ordered my potoe cake with chicken salt didn't happen. The food give it 2 stars. Service with a smile.
Friendly and helpful staff who looked after our crazy group of happy women for morning tea, thank you it was all scrumptious
Good variety of items great fast food and beautiful service. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Sunday 28/7/2019 would not answer phone then leave it on line busy shop shut at 6.30pm listed as open till 8pm very disappointed
Great food, a lot of it is 'home made'. Staff are friendly. Alcohol is available to buy and you can now obtain fishing bait and a range of fishing tackle is available.
Excellent. I had a steak pie and a chicken curry pie, both of which were great. I love pies and these were up there with the best I've had. I have to say the chicken curry pie was extremely mild; it felt like is was only the colour of the filling that attested to it's curried nature.
The staff are friendly, there's a pleasant area out the back ti sit in and eat (not strictly speaking a restaurant as they don't really take orders or anything from that area), and even the flat white I had was pretty good.
Highly recommended if you like pies but it looks like all the food there is great. Cheese and bacon potato cakes, anyone?
