Johnny Ripe at Main Ridge Harvest reviews
58OMG.perhaps the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. This is a lovely place to visit. Great food and some lovely gifts to buy as well.
This is always our go to bakery every time we head down to Redhill. Given the easy, delicious pie options, tasty desserts, and cozy ambiance, there is plenty of space for picnics or tables to dine at. When it was lavender season, it was beautiful there. The only downside is that their pies often run out quickly.
Not family friendly! The lady who runs the place had an unwelcoming attitude. This was my second time there and definitely my last
Something's happened, and they're not supplied by Johnny Ripe anymore. Pies, pasties and sausage rolls are no better than a common bakery now, and certainly not worth the trip up or the price. The kitchen wasn't open either, the relish is still great though.
Great service, food was amazing. Warm and Smokey wood fired atmosphere. Pancakes were unreal and the avocado egg toast was so flavourful! Oh and GREAT coffee!
Terrible atmosphere, for some reason they were very unwelcoming to our group (Asian) but nice to everyone else.
Sausage rolls werent much better than a fourandtwenty, pies also disappointing. Surely it isn't that hard to make great pie on sight.
Disappointing visit this year- the brownies are half the size and are are not the original beetroot ones!
and no vanilla slices
Loved the toasties and pastries here at Johnny Ripe. Would definitely come back for the pulled pork toastie. Beautiful outdoor seating with plenty of room for kids to run around.
We also ordered the beef and apple pie to take back.
This place had some of the best pastry that I have ever had. We got the croissant and chocolate cookie and they were both to die for. The scenery and location of this cafe make it an amazing and beautiful experience to eat here. A must see if you are a foody and want to see the wonders of the peninsula.
Unfortunately, I will never return to the place after visiting for many years. The price is ridiculous and the wait is even worse. One good hour to get a pie heated up and no apologises but terrible attitude. The taste is quite average as well.
Food was good - we had the beef and fish pie. Highly recommend those. However the letdown was the service. Ordered an apple pie that was available at the counter display and 15mins later was still not served to table although the restaurant was less than 1/2 full. When served, did not come with the cream which was on the menu and when asked, the waitress just dumped cream hastily on it with no apologies. Service could be improved.
Service was RUBBISH. Waited 20minutes just to order takeaway. Nothing on the menu is GF and even the salads! Most salads were swimming in mayonnaise. Definitely avoid if you have any dietary requirements
It’s such a shame that they don’t use free range chicken in their pies. Such a gourmet pie maker and yet caged chickens are used. There really is no excuse for using caged hens these days.
Other than that the fish pie is amazing.
Like most places on the peninsula, the customer service here can be hit or miss. The service here is either amazing or stand off ish and rude. Although they have two very confusing queues, on a busy day it’s not uncommon to see customers jumping queues. The staff turn a blind eye which leaves the customers who are doing the right thing very unsettled and annoyed.
By far the best lunch have had in a long time! Had the Roasted Pumpkin Sourdough Sandwich (Chicken and Cheese) with Chorizo on the side and it was absolutely delicious.
Portion sizes were great, and the location/setting was perfect too. Got to try a (beef) pie which was quite tasty as well.
Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Mornington, and would strongly recommend everyone give this place a go!
Delicious poached egg with Avo for late lunch but bit of a wait. Self service with cutlery. Order, pay & wait patiently. Also had lovely almond friand with frothy cappuccino. Surcharge is quite hefty on weekends. Either sit in or alfresco. Pretty busy on Sat 6 Oct - I had to park in the Lavender farm car park at the back.
Charged $19 for single toast and 2 fried eggs. We also ordered avocados on sourdough. Served the seasonal avocados on 2 white toast. Didn’t say anything about Sourdough not available until we asked them. The toast was way too soggy from all the sauces. I paid around $23 for something that reminded me of baby food. Charged $15 for a veggie pie and side salad. The salad was nothing but few rocket leaves. Complete ripoff.
Great pies and pastries, especially the small apple pies. Homely atmosphere with plenty of seating inside and outside and fast and friendly service. We'll be back on next visit to the Peninsula.
Nice hidden away spot. Great place to have a picnic especially when the lavender is out. They do a range of meals from pies to salads. Used to be a bakery before moving here.
Honestly, I was quite disappointed this visit. I've always been a big fan of Johnny Ripe and I've recommended it to many people. We were looking forward to the pastries this morning but was a little let down by the quality of the food. We dined in and first of all, the bench seats weren't cleaned and had crumbs all over (we arrived at 10am). My favourite chicken and tarragon pie was a let down with the soggy pastry bottom, and the crust wasn't very flaky and crunchy but soft. The kranksy on brioche was served in a takeaway box on top of a plate and had cold bacon in it. Coffees were also very average. The toilets wasn't well maintained with wet patches and broken soap dispenser. We normally get a few desserts to share and pies to take home but didn't do that this visit. Would recommend going to the Giddy Bullfrog Gallery and Tearooms 10mins away for excellent scones instead. Lastly, they do a 7.5% surcharge on weekends which they didn't mention when paying. It is written on the menu though, but maybe try and avoid weekends if that's not your thing. Apart from that, the service was good and there was a nice ambience from the lit fireplace. The grounds were also beautiful and there's a lavender farm across the restaurant. It might be a while before the next visit. We do hope that some of these issues are fixed for the future.
