Joes Mentone Fully Licensed Restaurant reviews
26 I ordered 4 pizzas takeaway for me and my family, my brother also ordered 4 pizza for him and his family. We spent between us about $190 but I'm sorry to say but the pizza was terrible, if spend an extra $5 and you can get a traditional Italian woodfire pizza with fresh and not processed ingredients.
2 days before we went to a woodfired pizza restaurant ordered 4 pizzas and a Parma for my son, it cost us about $160 and I have to say wow. The pizza and parma was fantastic and will definitely go there again.
On a positive note they gave us each a small garlic pizza as we had to wait about 45 mins
Great Food and Atmosphere, try not to dine in on a Friday night, as the prioroty is mostly for takeaway orders. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our orders were delayed by about 30 minutes or so but we were given a garlic pizza to tries us over till your mains were ready. Will try the Pizzas next time. Amazing location!
We've been coming here for well over 15 years, we come from Frankston once every 3 to 4 weeks for the great authentic Italian food, super fresh pizza and pastas, great atmosphere, quirky decor and memorabilia.
The service from Angelo, his parents and the staff has always warm and welcoming.
(Trust me, get the garlic pizza in addition to your usual choice, it's worth it)
Delicious authentic friendly Italian family run business is icon of Mentone and surrounding areas.
Best pizza in Melbourne
Service is friendly and welcoming.
Pizza was delicious.
Grazie
The best service, fabulous atmosphere and the most delicious food. I can’t recommend highly enough.
If I could give 100 stars for atmosphere I would. It’s a great place with a great vibe and delicious food and delightful service.
I am amazed that a restaurant which has a sign saying Italian and pizza cannot offer decent pizzas. I was planning to have the fresh pasta another time but after having tried their pizzas there is no way I will come back to try anything else. The cheese was the cheap one, the ham is the horrible processed shredded one. Spend 5 dollars more in any Italian restaurant and you will have a real delicious Italian pizza. I know some Italians who would remove their sign saying Italian restaurant after trying these pizzas. I would normally never leave any bad review as I own a business myself and i know how much hard work it is but the pizza was too bad. The dough had sugar in it but also too much salt. I decided to leave a review because it would be sad that some people could think that Italian pizzas taste like theirs. It would be unfair.
On a positive note, to be fair, they offered us a pizza while waiting which is a nice gesture and that one was as it should be. They had 2 teenagers serving and they were absolutely great, friendly, professional. The restaurant itself is full of stuff to decorate, too much and it feels dusty. No idea how the pasta taste.
Just bought 2 X rigatoni Marinara pasta's @ $50 total.
The worst pasta I've had.
Rigatoni over cooked (flat)
Covered in melted parmesan
And seafood particularly the prawns had no flavour.
Had pasta here before which was nice.
This was one of the WORST PASTAS WEVE EVER HAD.
Only ate it because we were very hungry. Actually I left half of it.
Very disappointed.
Has the standard dropped?
Stella, you are a champion. Thanks heaps for your actions today by making sure we all got all what we left behind (wallets, sunnies etc). Proud to be surrounded by these beautiful people and keep up the good work…
I have to admit a bias, I love this place. I'm struggling to tell you why, but I do. The food is good. The staff are lovely. The atmosphere, well the decor anyway, is unique. It's a bit of a time warp, hasn't changed much since I was kid, and I appreciate that.
Wonderful place and people. Vegetarian Pizza was good. The place has a great collection of food
The best pizza and pasta we have had in a long long time. Brilliant food and a wonderful family!
Great Mexican pizza ok waitresses BUT the carbonara pasta was so salty we couldn’t eat it. I waiting until after paying for before I told Grumpy Joe as I didn’t want to seem like I wanted a discount. Joes response- well everyone else seems to like it!? !
Mate we eat out a lot and don’t mine pay either, but what I can’t cop is that attitude
Best dining experience ever!
I’ve only been to this place twice. The first was a quick takeaway and the second was a dine in on Valentine’s Day (loved the pizza so much I had to come back).
When we arrived the second time we noticed a lady at the front making fettuccine FROM SCRATCH and decided we HAD to try that pasta. It was phenomenal! Also I love cheese-less garlic pizzas if they’re done right (not many places make it without cheese and those that do usually make it too dry or too oily imho), these guys made them perfectly each time! Probably the best garlic pizza I’ve had. On V Day they served it to us shaped like a heart, which I thought was an awesome touch
The decorations around the store are really fun to admire, they’ve got all sorts of things on display and no matter who you are you’re guaranteed to see a few things that bring back nostalgic memories. It really sets a good atmosphere and makes eating in very enjoyable
We also tried their cocktails, I highly recommend the Kermit!
Other than that the thing that struck me the most was that both times we went there all the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. The fella who I think is Joe (but I didn’t actually catch his name so not sure) was super happy and excited, you could tell this is a guy who really loves what he does. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a restaurant where the people working were that happy. It’s worth going if only to experience it for yourself
Cannot recommend this place enough and will definitely be back!
Joe’s a miserable old man who should retire and leave the front-of-house customer service to someone else.
I tried to order on the way home from the beach and told Joe that my husband would pay when he came back to collect the order. I was told that I had to pay on order and should have taken money to the beach with me. Not sure how what I was asking would have been different had I ordered over the phone. It’s a shame because we’re local and have ordered this way from Joe’s in the past - Joe’s just become more grumpy over the years. I wasn’t going to stay there and be lectured by an old man on what I should have taken to the beach, so we left.
Good food, great friendly service, really friendly atmosphere, we had a great night, l would recommend Joe's Mentone
Had dinner at Joes last night, waited 25 minutes to be served and 45 minutes for our meal. Food wasn’t great nor was the service, a little disappointing overall.
Amazing classic restaurant atmosphere.
The food is perfect. Pasta sizes are big and taste great.
Pizzas are also made perfect. A hidden gem of Melbourne.
Great food and service!
Pizza and pasta is delicious, right across from the beach so it’s nice to go for a walk after dinner. Order the garlic pizza it’s the best!
Easy parking in the area.
