Had the chance to meet all 3 generations of this store and they were all super friendly and helpful to get us geared up for a fun Phillip Island surf experience. An extra big shout to the owners son Jack who was our surf coach for a 2 hour group lesson. He was very knowledgeable and took great care of us to ensure we had a great experience for our first time at Smith’s Beach, highly recommend this shop to anyone visiting Phillip Island and looking for a fun surf experience. We had a great experience at Smith's Beach Island Surf Shop. The in-store service was fantastic these guys are patient, welcoming and knowledgeable and the surf lesson was first class. I would highly recommend this shop and instructor Lauren to anyone, the booking process was easy, I went there the instructor new my name, she welcomed me and gave me a clear run down of how the process works and she was knowledgeable, she understood me as a person and knew how to teach me, for a adult at 46 to be able to teach me and make me stand on a board in my first class was amazing, I have never touched board in my life and this 2hr private lesson i would highly recommend as Lauren really nit picks every step and makes you understand why. So highly recommend.thanks Lauren.

Simon and Alice were everything instructors should be. Patient, highly knowledgeable, kind and encouraging. With clear instructions and regular feedback I got better and better through out the day and stood up so many times I lost count. They taught us to slow down, focus on the steps and the reasons behind them and with that so much of the fear, rush and panic was removed. I cannot recommend them highly enough

Richard is very friendly and helpful on the phone trying to book my daughter in. Alice, the coach is so patient and easy going, my daughter had such a good time learning and exploring, 1st lesson ever she had and she’s able to stand up on her own we will definitely come back soon. Thank you

These guys are the best. Best in class in Australia and probably the world. I would list them as Australian protected heritage! My kids did surfing lessons there.just fab, and we we bought a soft board which is just amazing. Long live the Island Surfboards & Surf School!

It’s so rare these days to go into a store and have someone who is fun, knowledgeable and who is happy to help you out with the intricacies of buying something fancy.

Booked 3 surf lessons for my son. Staff and coaches could not have been more helpful. He loved every minute, coaches were really supportive and encouraging. We definitely will be back!

Great people. Have done lessons with whole family (inc. 9,13,15,42 and 45 yr Olds, three girls two boys) as well as hired boards out. These guys look after you and know their stuff

My friend and I had a private lesson here and the staff were very friendly and the lesson was helpful. As promised we were standing by the end of the lesson and we felt confident enough to catch our own waves after the lesson ended.

Great bunch of guys. Hired a couple of boogie boards plus flippers. Very good rates. Great customer service. Smith’s beach has got to be one of those rare hidden gems you find from time to time. And when you do find it, you never forget it. Will be back here a lot in the future.

The best place to learn surfing in smiths beach. It was 18 degrees the water temperature. And I was worried about that cz im not used to be on water with that temperature. And they told me we got you covered.and sure they did. The wet suit did the work for me. Withing two hours you could be a surfer. They cover everything you need to know about surfing. And they have plenty of stuffs that you need to go for surf. All you need to carry is a towel. The coach simon is the best coach for surfing. I 100% recommending this place to everyone. They are the best.
