India Gate Restaurant Belgrave

I have no clue how this restaurant have 4.2 stars.the whole place stinks. The cutlery, water jar was not clean, colours peeling out from the glass jar. Food has more colour than the food itself actually. Have made a mistake going there, but will never go again.

This is easily our favourite Indian Restaurant to go to for either dining in or getting take away.
The food is exceptional and we always get great service. Highly recommend!

If customer service is high on your priority list go to a day spa, if you go to a restaurant you’re going there for the food. The staff here could punch me in the face every time they walked past and I’d still give them 5 stars. Unreal food.

This was the best Indian anywhere. The food was beautiful and the service was way beyond expectations. We would recommend this place to everyone looking for somewhere to eat out. They go above and beyond. They are the friendliest people you could ever ask to meet.

I have just had dinner and it seems like the place went down the hill. I used to come here quite often about 7- 10 years ago. The cutlery, the plate and the glass were not clean at all. The staircase leading to the toilet had no lightning. The dryer in the toilet did not work and there were no tissue or towels. To make things worse, the owner or whoever looked after me tried to overcharge me. I asked him how much I owned him and he quoted something which did not make any sense, so I asked him to give me a breakdown bill, which he was a bit hesitant to produce. Once we broke down the total into all the items, the bill turned out to be $9 higher than what it should be and I only ordered 3 dishes. Quite disappointing, really.

Lovely service and good food. I'm very picky with Indian restaurants (I've been travelling to the northern suburbs to get my Indian fix recently), so I'm very happy to have a good local Indian option. My favourite dish so far is the chicken madras.

The ambiance (dripping roof), the service ("Oh my God! Don't breathe in. " after coughing on our food and placing it on the table anyway) and the food (raw vegetables in not fresh sauces, or papadams still dripping with oil) was so bad we didn't have to pay.

I waited 30 minutes in restaurant on-top of my original pickup time after being told “it’s just 5 minutes away”

Lamb Rohan josh was so over cooked it was like eating lamb bullets.

So many good Indian restaurants around, unfortunately this isn’t one of them.

Great food and very friendly staff. The owner is a legend. Will definitely be making this a regular place for dinner. Thank you India Gate

01/04/2022 My Personal Experience:
Ordered a Meal, using the online ordering system via the India Gate website, for my family at about 6: 25pm.
Text message received at 6: 40pm informing me my order would be ready at 7: 25pm.
I showed up at the restaurant at 7: 15pm.
I was informed my meal was still "10 to 20 mins" from being ready.
After waiting 30 mins, I enquired how long my meal would be. The young girl disappeared into the kitchen and didn't reappear!
After 5-10 mins more I get the attention of another staff member and ask the same question.
They disappear into the kitchen as well.
I get a nod from her about 5 mins later as she is returning from serving some meals to tables that I interpret as "it won't be long".
At 8: 15 my partner is suggesting cancelling the order and getting Macca's.
My meal finally comes out of the kitchen at 8: 25.

I'm informed that they had run out of Onion Bhajis and substituted Samosas instead. For the wait I was also given 4 Gulab Jam deserts as compensation. That's fine and I wander off.

Finally get home about 8: 40 (after ordering at 6: 25!).
I unpack the meal to find that the Vegetable Korma, with a note for no Mushrooms, I had ordered had also been substituted to a Mixed Vegetable Curry with Mushrooms.
So my partner and daughter couldn't eat it!

After waiting two hours, and waiting until the unacceptable time of 8: 40 to feed my 7 year old, they then couldn't eat what I brought home.
After the 2 hour wait I couldn't afford the time to take it back!

Poor service, poor communication.
Support local? Not this customer.

Awful, awful and more awful. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our food to arrive. When it finally did it was lukewarm, tasted weird and was accompanied by a long black strand of hair. The poor waitress didn't know the difference in side between entrees and mains and she didn't know what condiment was served with the samosas. A truly horrible experience. We will never ever return. Ever.

Got there for a 7: 30 booking, our party was one of the two tables there.there was one waitress on the floor.tables around us had dishes and rubbish on them which stayed there for the entirety of our visit.we had our orders taken around 7: 50 - 8pm.we waited until almost 10pm to be served our meals.our drinks came about 30 minutes after we ordered, a one of the kids in our party received his pint of soft drink about 40 minutes after we ordered.we had quite a large party so i understand it may take longer than usual to serve up, but there were takeaway orders going out the door as we watched, and the only other table there had also been waiting for a considerable amount of time.when our (empty) plates were brought out, some were dirty and had to be replaced.the food was very good when we finally got it, but i’m not sure it was worth 2 hours of waiting.when it came time to pay, the waitress gave us FOUR DOLLARS off the order, and told us they only had one chef in the kitchen for the day because of the holidays.when someone from our party started to pay, the waitress went to the kitchen and had a very loud argument with the chef about how much to discount her…this may have been due to the new year leaving them understaffed, but waiting over 2 hours for meals? At this point, staying closed for public holidays and only taking takeaway orders would be the smartest idea.i’ve heard good reviews about this place that were written during the year outside of public holidays, so if anyone is planning on making this their next dinner spot, make sure to book mid-year instead of public holidays because, as with any restaurant, they will most likely be incredibly understaffed.

Love the food, always very consistent. Only small gripe is the time to get your takeaway.a minor point which is overshadowed by good authentic food.

Lads this is the best restaraunt I have ever gone to yeh. The beers are high quality and i love the alcohol

My partner and I just moved into the area and we had a lovely meal at India Gate last night. The owners were friendly and the service was great. The food was delicious and the servings were very generous. We will definitely be back!

Five star service, every time. I've been going here for years and I genuinely think this is the best Indian in the hills.

Worst Indian hospitality experience ever. Waited for 10 minutes to be seated and kept waiting for staff to take order. Staff didn't come out of the kitchen door for 25 minutes. We left after waiting for 25 minutes and while we leaving, the staff didn't even apologies or acknowledge their bad service.

Never coming back.

Amazing experience! Will always get our Indian take away from this restaurant.they’re so incredibly generous and the food is always amazing as expected!
