IL FORNO reviews
59 My go to Italian Restaurant back when I lived in Hampton, VIC.
Took the chance to drop in at the restaurant without a booking and was initially told to come back at 1.5 hours later as the restaurant was fully booked for the night.
We agreed.
Maybe the staff saw our eagerness and also that we were chatting with the pizzaolo, they quickly put together a table at the back of the restaurant and we didn't have to wait.
As a group we had so many dishes and I didn't manage to take photos of everyone's.
Needless to say.every dish was mouth watering, as excellent as I remembered. The pizza was still as awesome as i remembered.the crust was just perfect.
And the staff, as much a star as the food, always checking in to make sure all was OK.and in the end, we squeezed in desserts when we didn't plan to.
You can't see the dinners from the street because the cashier was in front but don't be deceive, when you come in most if not all the tables will be occupied which tells the place is popular. The food is also great, I would say authentic itialian like you are just in Italy. The waitress who serve me was very warm and you can feel most welcome. Will try to get back if I'm in Hampton Beach again.
Just ordered a takeaway and the food was so delicious! We haven't dined in yet but we certainly will visit soon.
Hands down my absolute favourite Italian restaurant in Melbourne! The staff are always so friendly with amazing service. We always have the best night every time we eat at Il Fono!
Great cosy restaurant with attentive staff. Went there for Pizza and ended up having a drink while we waited. The guy making the Pizzas was a a perfectionist. I was sorry I put a glass near his countertop. I will be back to try their pasta and eat in!
The food is delicious, staff are engaging and the venue is lively and warm. I loved hearing about the Italian family history behind the restaurant and it’s obvious how much passion, care and love goes into creating the whole restaurant experience. A wonderful atmosphere and can’t wait to go back!
Amazing little Italian place with the sweetest owners.
I ordered the ravioli, and it was delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and I loved the truffle oil.
Especially loved the larger than life pepper grinder!
Excellent service and memorable experience at Il Forno. Food was impeccable and very authentic. Will definitely be back soon.
Brilliant food, Fruti Da Mare, Morton Bay Bug ribbon pasta, chocolate and hazel nut tart.
Couple of glasses of Shiraz, spot on.
Cost was absolutely negligible some people from Brighton doing it hard. Lol
Service was wonderful, second time we’ve been there.
The negative comments on here speak only about the person writing them. In fact they’re hilarious. Some entitled Karen’s who clearly don’t speak of how they treated wait staff.
And if you’re the sort of person who treats wait staff badly, best you stay home and eat, your parents didn’t raise you well enough to be out in public.
A Friday evening alway buzzing at Il Forno with the moment we walked in greeted with a warm welcome by Naz as always.
On this occasion, celebrating our anniversary, we were served by both Bryony and Dean who have been with Il Forno for a number of years respectfully, that in itself says a lot.
We were offered water and a drinks menu from which we chose a bottle of Shiraz Cab Barbanera Siciliane (beautiful)
To begin with we had the Involtini di Melanzane and Arancini both scrumptious.
For mains, my partner had the Saltimbocca and Rigattone con ragù di Agnello for myself, both delicious.
To end I can never go without Tiramisu with my partner opting for the Gelato Misto.
We had a wonderful time, delicious food, lovely homey feel with fantastic service all round.
Thanks Naz and the Il Forno crew, we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Excellent classic Italian. We had a selection of dishes and all were fantastic. Very attentive and friendly service.
Staff very rude ruined my night
I went there for my birthday dinner. After my bf go paid staff was said to my bf “she’s give you hard time”. I can’t believe the staff was running his mouth comment negative over they customer how rude. They are listen to customer conversation at the tablet or whatever, regardless you can’t comment on someone like that. The waitress and the counter same person was incredibly rude, no one teach you that you need to keep your opinions for yourself? So unprofessional, you can’t have that attitude when you are working in serves!
This restaurant owner need to train the staff otherwise you will lose your customers
I live in Brighton this restaurant is convenient for us I went here a lot but now we don’t want to be back there anymore. Terrible experience
A couple of weeks ago I went for a meal with my family. We started off with a pizza and some appetisers to share.
This was some of the most overrated and blland food I've had, yet it was so expensive. The arancini were bland, with the rice mushy in the middle. There was a hint of truffle oil. The calamari was the best dish as it was soft and came with a nice sauce. The sausage pizza was a sloppy wet mess. The blue cheese cauliflower was dry and had no sauce. The meatballs did not come to our table until late due to a mistake from the waiter and happened to be seasoned. This time, it was too much as the meatball tasted like the ocean, and the sauce was too acidic.
For main, most people had the veal saltimbocca, where the veal was dry and lacked sauce and seasoning. The mash was also very dry and stogey, lacking the velvitness a mash should. For $45, it was a massive disappointment. My mother ordered the ravioli, which came in a pool of melted butter (not burnt butter, which it was meant to be). Again, the filling lacked seasoning. On the plus side, my uncles pasta gamberi with a prawn bisque was a delight. I ordered the pancetta pizza. It was much crispier and flavoursome than the one we all shaded for entree.
I had the pleasure of visiting Il Forno last night, the food and service was fantastic.
My family and I had a great experience and Naz the owner is a great host and his staff were brilliant.
Highly recommend this place if you’re after authentic southern Italian cuisine
I especially loved the veal saltimbocca and my partner loved the spaghetti frutti do mare
Thanks guys
See you very soon
Great service, however the food is very blend and tasteless. Also it is difficult to hear as the aqustic needs to improve.
Inviting decor, cosy and relaxing. The staff are personable and attentive. The menu is interesting and very reasonably priced. We cleaned our plates as everything was utterly delicious?
This was not a good experience
the food was expensive based on the the size of the meals and the alcohol, the wine in particular $22.00 for 275mm glass of sparkling moscato absolutely rip off! After all your not located in Toorak. Never again thanks.
The best pizza in Melbourne, booked a table for dinner and was so impressed with the service, pizza and pasta and also great atmosphere
Our favourite restaurant in Hampton - food and service is always great. We’ve been going there for years, and it has always been a positive experience for us with family and friends, or just the two of us. Thanks Naz and the Il Forno crew
Food and service it's sensational, go above and beyond. Lovely to see a family working togther. Thankyou Naz for your super menu. Yummy
