Very delicious, the waiter has a good attitude, and the food is hygienic.
A bowl of beef donut was packed, and the hot spring eggs were even packaged separately.touching

@ikkai.au, Melbourne CBD

Ikkai is super famous for their sukiyaki but they also make incredible Japanese donburi and sides, we have been here a couple of times and this was our first visit to their new location

Their donburi is perfectly presented with delicious meats like wagyu, fried chicken (katsu or karaage) and seafood like prawns plus rice, ossen egg and seaweed salad

Highly recommend this spot it if you are looking for good Japanese food that won't break the bank in the heart of Melbourne CBD

What we ordered:
Ultimate Wagyu Don $54.8
Ebi Fry & Chicken Karaage Don $24.8
Curry Chicken Karaage Donburi $25.8
Chicken Katsu Donburi $22.8
Fried Claw Ball $11.8
Ebi Fry $11.8
Umami Fries $9.8
Takoyaki $7.8
Sapporo on Tap $13.6

Had the half half done (wagyu and karubi) and it was super yummy! The beef slices were melt-in-the-mouth, so tender and buttery.
Staff were extremely friendly, ambience was lovely. I’ll definitely be back to try the sukiyaki

Featured:
m10-12 wagyu sukiyaki set for 2
eel azumino soba seed stem chazuke
fried claw balls
tacoyaki
green tea
kirin ichiban beer

Been to ikkai a few times in their previous location and it was great to be back for their sukiyaki and dons. We really enjoyed the food + experience here and given it was a rainy day that day, the japanese feed we had was super comforting for the prices of the dishes, you do get delicious food, quality meat/ingredients and a generous serving. Nice ambience and very friendly + attentive staff. Definitely worth a try! ️

So far the best Japanese food I have in Melbourne, will definitely come again. Although is a bit pricey but worth it after you have the first taste

Disappointed. Service was ok, but the food… made me feel really sad. The sauce was way too salty and sugary, and they told me not to touch the pot so veggies and tofu could be braised in the sauce for at least 5 min… I grew up in Japan, and this was the first time I felt unhealthy and bloated after eating this small portion of Sukiyaki. It was braised for way too long, with way too much condiments.

Every time I touched the given cooking tong, a young lady ran to our table and said, “I cook it for you! ”. She didn’t let me cook and asked if I wanted it medium rare or well done. I said medium rare, and the lady said, “ok”, but when she served it on my plate, it had no pink or red part on my meat. I don't blame the ladies because I assume management/owner tells them to cook on behalf of the customer. If so, the owner and management should give basic training to each employee at least.

They let you choose the different grades of beef to have in your sukiyaki, they also make sure the meat is cooked to perfection, not too raw and overcooked. They don’t have that many side dishes but that gives them more room for perfection for the sukiyaki!

If you love Sukiyaki and Wagyu, this hidden gem is a must visit. Hidden away at the back of Tivoli Arcade in Melbourne CBD, they serve premium Wagyu Sukiyaki, donburi and other Japanese small bites like Takoyaki, tako karaage, tempura, takoyaki, salmon sashimi and more.

We had:
? A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set
Salmon Sashimi
Tako Karaage

We started with deliciously fresh salmon sashimi and yummy bites of fried octopus pieces. Moving on to the main A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set; flavours were built from grilling the wagyu beef fat on the hot cast iron Sukiyaki pot and adding the rich, sweet broth. Vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, udon and konjak noodles were added along with slices of beautifully marbled A5 wagyu beef? Once we had the wagyu cooked to our preference, we then dipped them into the pasteurised egg yolk and we enjoyed it!

The sukiyaki broth was more on the sweet side rather than savoury/ spicy hot pot. However, the pasteurised egg yolk dip did help to balance out that sweetness. You really can’t go wrong with A5 wagyu to begin with. They just melt in your mouth

For a very limited time, their A5 Wagyu set is at only $138 per set (normally $188). So better hurry if you wanna visit before the offer ends!

We had the A5 wagyu sukiyaki last week and it did not dissapoint. Sukiyaki was delicious, the wagyu meat was very tender and buttery. We also love the wagyu don which surprisingly was very affordable, probably one of the best wagyu don I’ve tried so far!

The staff helped us to cook the sukiyaki too, customer service is great! Can’t wait to go back

Looking for some delicious Japanese A5 Wagyu Sukayaki?

The wagyu was awesome, really tasty, soft and juicy. The veggies and noodles were fresh and full of flavour. The hot pot was a treat.

My chicken katsu was fantastic with BIG pieces of crispy chicken pieces.

That washed down with a cold Kirin was the best way to finish.

And this restaurant is almost next door to the Melbourne Town Hall so it's easy to find.

Last weekend we went to Ikkai, a Japanese restaurant located in the CBD
They are very famous for the sukiyaki and we got the chance to try it with super tender wagyu plus a variety of fresh vegetables and noodles
The best thing is that they have a seasonal special at the moment: the Japanese A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki was $188 and now is $138

Featuring:
? Japanese A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki For 2 $138.00

Melbourne ‍️ ‍️ to @ikkai.au today to get the irresistible offer of Japanese A5 Wagyu sukiyaki set for two for $138 instead of it’s regular $188 price. Valid for for this winter season only.

Make your winter nights cozy, comfy and delicious with this beautiful and amazing sukiyaki experience with your loved ones.

Came here with high expectations but left with a very sour taste.
Ordered salmon don, half prawn and karaage don, salmom sashimi and korroke.
Got advised that the salmon sashimi was sold out so swapped That for the crab claws.
After 10 mins got advised that the korroke was sold out due to it being Sunday.
All good told the waitress that we will just get the 2 x donburi and crab claw.
After another 10 minutes got advised that the salmon don was sold out.
Ok…. Not sure why they didnt tell me sooner but swapped this for a chicken karrage don.
Crab claws came out which were nice.
After another 5 mins the prawn and karrage don came out so was expecting the karrage don to come out soon.
After waiting 15 mins we asked where the food was. The waitress got flustered as she advised that the order did not go through.
How can the order not go through when I got an invoice for the food?
Seems like excused for the poor service.
The excuse they gave was they were too busy. I mean busy is good but how is that an excuse?
If they are out of food they should tell at the start. Also make sure the waitresses and kitchen communicate better as the waitress had no idea what was happening and was all flustered.

Had high hopes but will not be returning due to the bad experience. Being busy is no excuse for poor service.
Plenty of better Japanese options in Melbourne with much much better service and attention to detail.

The grilled eel in rice had a very generous serving of eel. 9/10 for this dish.
We also had the A5 Beef sukiyaki, the beer was very tender however I prefer my beef grilled not dipped. Overall it’s still very tasty.
The shop is quite small and tight, the big chairs does not help. Would love to see some renovations to this place. 7.7/10

We came here because of the high score 4.8, the sukiyaki is not bad. But the soup base flavor is too strong, I need to add some water myself.

The sukiyaki soup base was well balanced and tasted perfect. We tried their A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki For 2 ($94 Per Person). The wagyu did not disappoint and would melt in your mouth! The only down side was that there wasn't enough and for that price, I don't think it's worth it. I think it would've been worthwhile just getting the other sukiyaki sets.

The eel chazuke was delicious! The lucipia momo oolong was funky but went really well with the chazuke.

Highly recommend this place but do book in advance.
