IGA X-press reviews
32Do not buy any of their cooked foods. Got food poisoning from their cooked foods. Their fruits are not fresh. Only reason they are still open is due to their proximity to apartments on Flemington Road. Hope they close soon and Coles local or Woolies local takes over.
I've visited multiple times, had no problem with the cashier.
One girl was super nice, she told me that the hot cross buns that I looked for are defrosted every n days and I should asked the staff if I saw none in the display.
The other girl was super nice, she gave me coins when I asked for a change, even more than I needed.
Today they have different cashier, a guy, worst experience ever.
Nice IGA store near Royal Melbourne hospital. Very convenient location. You can find all of your daily use grocery items here.
If you want to overpay for nearly expired items, then this is the iga for you.
Just paid $6 for a tiny strawberries punnet and half were edible.
Everything is Crazy expensive and most of the time NOT fresh.
If only I lived a little closer to a proper supermarket. Terrible IGA!
Good range of products for a smallish store. Still desperately looking for frozen vegetables fingers that this store used to stock and not sure why they are no longer available?
I was afraid of going into this place due to the bad reviews although I live 1-min from the location. However, my experience was ok.
It's overpriced
It's lacking customer service
The lights are darker and lousy compared to regular Woolworth and Coles.
However, it's conveniently located. I was able to get what I wanted. It wasn't that bad as I suspected.
This place has gone downhill since I first started patronizing it. Probably because of COVID. However they have lost my patronage with a new Woolworths Metro opening up, the same distance away from me, albeit in the opposite direction; I'll be moving my shopping requirements to Woolies.
The front desk receptionist is lack of customer service skills. I ordered online shopping with my coupon. She cancelled some of my items without informing me. If you don’t have the items in store, please don’t post online, or you can contact me to discuss about the replacement. Finally, my order were all cancelled by the delivery because she asked me to order all again with my coupon, and she would replace the item I wanted. Unfortunately, I can’t use my coupon again.
The really arrogant salt and pepper haired Hugh NEVER wears his mask! I go to this Iga quite a but and only ONE TIME have I seen him actually follow COVID procedures.
Considering it’s opposite the RMH, you’d think that following the simple instruction of wearing a mask would be really crucial.
BLEARING Indian music so inappropriately loud, like, this isn’t a night club, this is Tuesday evening at 7: 30
I can understand the last 10 minutes of your shift to okay whatever but - this was ridiculous. The more senior worker there, just galavanted around pridefully unaware HOW LOUD it is.
I didn’t approach the matter because I didn’t want the racism card to be played. There is nothing wrong with your music, but there is something wrong with how at that volume, it’s penetrative and super invasive.
I just want to do my shopping in peace.
Should reconsider prices as items are unreasonably priced. Stock is limited, may as well go to a real IGA.
One of your staffs at the cashier today 14/5/21 (Indian, black long ponytail, brown jumper) was super rude to me. The same lady was also rude to me the other day. I do not understand why I was being treated that way as I was just buying my grocery. I do not appreciate such a service.
Friendly customer service and nice range of products! (A bit overpriced but nothing weird for an IGA)
Great little version of a full sized supermarket, they do cram a lot of things in it but they don't stock everything a full size I G A would stock, pius you can get a cold beer and mixed drinks, plus a good selection of wines
Friendly service, well stocked, long opening hours and reasonable prices. Walking distance from RMH and other busy places in North Melbourne. What more could you want.
This IGA express is very well stocked with all the essentials, amazing selection for special diets GF/DF/Vegan. They have many tasty international gourmet options in the deli case & snack sections for impressing at a dinner party or picnic. Staff always been friendly and the store spotlessly clean. Covid also introduced glove/sanitizer and wipes on entry plus staff awareness of overcrowding in this small store. Service is so quick that it is rare to wait even on Friday night when the bottle shop and snack counter gets many visitors.
A cheerful team of professionals on counter so you get in, get what's necessary and get out again stress free.
Great customer service. Needed help with the ear phones and she opened up the pack and showed us made sure they fit the phone. Will be back again
Expiry dates removed
I've only lived in North Melbourne for about 6 months, but during that time I've visited this store many times, and a good few of those times I have gotten home only to discover that some of the products I have bought have had the expiry date removed. (See photo.)
It's been on my To Do list for a while to write this review and warn people.
I remember, as a student, working at a small cornerstore that had a somewhat abusive owner. He would get the staff members to use graffiti remover to wipe the expiry dates of products that had passed the expiry date but which had not yet been sold. It was a way to improve profits. And so I guess that is what is happening at this IGA.
I have discovered this enough times now that I am always hyper vigilant when I visit this IGA re: checking for the expiry date - and making sure it is the proper expiry date and not just some sticker that IGA put over the real expiry date.

On a different note, most of the staff at this store are quite friendly - but one staff member is incredibly awkward. If you are standing near a shelf, looking at the products, she will just rudely push in front of you without saying anything, pushing you back, in order to restock some of the products.
And when she serves you at the till, she is very abrupt and makes the simple process of checking out quite awkward.
A 10 pack of surgical masks was on sale for $25 which is disgusting profiteering from those near a hospital who need them most.
Well stocked, very nice customer service and clean store. Highly recommended for that quick shop. Also the alcohol prices are pretty decent.
