IDES reviews
53What a great place to come for dinner. The degustation menu was magnificent.easily up there with the top 3 dining experiences ever. Peter Gunn's menu was up there with Shannon Bennet's menu when he was at Vue De Monde
We went there for a drink, great bar:)
Anthony the bartender was great, very smiling, professional & very good cocktail recommendation.
Subdued & chic atmosphere. Ideal with friends or as a couple.
Excellent cocktail, I recommend the Yuzu drop. It’s a nugget:)
I recommend this establishment
Incredible experience at IDES and MARCH! All staff were very attentive and friendly and ensured my friends and I had an awesome time. Food was delicious, innovative and worth every cent! Can’t wait to come back again. Looking forward to rebooking in the new year!
Echoing a lot of the recent reviews - service is terrible, food and drink was overpriced. I shared my detailed feedback with manager Liam, but judging from his response, I don't think its being taken on board and I expect to see more mediocre reviews as this place continues to drop standard.
When I flagged small things like the water not being topped up once by staff, his excuse is that the bar side of the restaurant is a more "paired back" dining option where you're expected to pour your own water. When I mentioned bigger issues like the fact that I was overcharged on my bill, he did not offer any resolution.
I recommend taking a stroll up Gertrude or any other direction in Fitzroy/Collingwood instead. You'll easily find 10 other options within a kilometre that offer "paired back dining" where the staff are capable and happy to top up a glass, your food will be more generous and higher quality, and you won't be charged $250 per person.
One of the most enjoyable, fun and ridiculously delicious evenings I’ve ever had. We will most definitely be back. Highly recommended
Amazing food, and incredible service, all in an elegant, intimate dining room. I highly recommend this restaurant – a hidden gem.
Excellent service and delicious food, a perfect combination of classic fine dining and creative flavours and plating. The staff made us feel very welcomed and special for our engagement celebration. We felt as if the vegan seven course tasting menu wasn’t quite as well appointed as the standard tasting menu, but I understand the difficultly of the task and I’m sure it will only get better.
Every single dish out of the 17 were truly amazing, creative and delicious. Highly highly recommend!
Outstanding experience. There is a challenge and a skill in the world of fine dining to make the occasional visitor feel at ease to maximise their enjoyment of the food and the whole sitting. Thank you IDES for your Sunday menu. From the moment we walked in to March next door to the farewell as we walked out. Lovely playful surprises throughout the meal. I remember the crunch of the sauce containing skitake and asparagus slithers on the steak dish. I thought the oyster in beef fat was stunning. Great wine list. Thanks IDES. We will be back. Probably not next weekend but for another special occasion. P. S. We had inadvertently watched 'The Menu' with Ralph Fiennes the night before so we did check where the exits were as we were seated! We were much more relieved when you guys actually served a bread dish - a beautiful warm piece of foccacia (see photo of my nearly finished portion).
IDES, located in Collingwood, offered Modern Australian cuisine. We went there for lunch, got the 4-course ‘One Day Sunday’ set menu with an additional dessert. The first course, Bulgogi loaf with gochujang butter and Pickled mussels with green chilli; the second course were Asparagus soup and Asparagus tart; the third, pan seared Pink snapper with yuzu & sesame and Duck thigh served with radicchio rhubarb & puffed rice, the last was dessert of Yuzu parfait with cacao granita. All the dishes were minute in size, but each one was uniquely delicious, elegantly flavourful, and beautifully presented. Was tough to pick a favourite, but I was most pleasantly surprised by the bulgogi loaf that came with the gently spiced gochujang butter – it was a rather simple dish, but the flavours worked really well together, and loved the Korean twist in it! My other favourite was the additional dessert we got which was ‘The Black Box’; it was a literal black box (made of chocolate – that we got to smash!) and in it were various fresh ingredients like lavender, chocolate soil, mandarin and gingerbread bits. Next was the rich Daintree rainforest chocolate mousse, and their last surprise were sesame snaps presented in this mysterious wooden drawer (as you had to figure out how to crack it open!). Overall I had SO much fun dining there, loved the interactivity, the friendly service, and most of all – the amazingly delicious food.
The food was delicious and the plating was really exciting. One of the best meals we had in Australia. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
Amazing food, friendly staff, average dessert
We'll definitely go back!
-The restaurant is small and cozy, good for small group of friends
- Menu is set menu at the moment and full of delicious surprises
- Drinks are different and worth trying, not the best cocktails you ever had but still very nice
- Only disappointment was the desert, not bad but pretty average
- Staffs are friendly and nice
Our dinner was impeccable - the service was attentive, the pairings were unique and very well selected (our servers were very knowledgeable), ambience was fantastic and modern, and most of all, the food was absolutely delicious (I'm still craving that smoked wagyu fat butter).
Thanks IDES for a wonderful experience.
Incredible experience - both the food and the service were impeccable. Wine pairing a must!
This is my favourite restaurant in Melbourne, the food is incredible, and the wine pairings are phenomenal. Great staff as well! Go if you haven’t been.
My partner and I had the Sunday menu for $105. I have to say I was not very impressed - if not disappointed - and thought that the bill of $328 (including an annoying 10% Sunday surcharge) was too high for what was offered. Actually thinking they skipped a course on us. The food was not bad, but not outstanding either. We have had better experiences at that price point. Drinks are very expensive, we had the cheapest wines by the glass.
The extra 'dish' of oyster was charged at $8 each for the tiniest (and most expensive) oyster I have ever seen; you honestly could not see it with the naked eye. Zero taste of the oyster as well (maybe it wasn't even there?).
I wanted to pay the bill with restaurant gift cards which should be accepted by any restaurant accepting eftpos payments, but somehow they couldn't get it working. Can't imagine I'm the first person wanting to pay with those gift cards, which are commonly sold at Woolworths.
We visited IDES a year ago back when lockdown 6 just got lifted and we were blown away by the food and services. Definitely a memorable experience and I can’t wait to dine there again!
A contemporary fine dining restaurant offering a degustation course with a changing menu depending on the availability of the seasonal ingredients. No menu was provided as the dining experience is to leave it to the chef with each dish explained in detail when served. Had the following dishes for the night:
- Curry cracker; crispy and fragrant
- Caviar tart; creamy cauliflower base with a burst of delicious saltiness from the caviar
- Truffle scroll; soft and spongy with a sticky savory glaze complementing the truffle taste
- White fish and persimmon tartare; fresh with a citrus note; the sweetness of the persimmon was mild and not overpowering
- Pine mushroom pasta; mild tasting, clean and soothing, saved with a side of wagyu bresaola which was beefy and savory
- Flax seed bread roll with wagyu fat butter; the exterior of the bread was very crispy with an earthy taste. This was paired with their house made butter infused with smoked wagyu fat; extremely rich, savory and umami tasting. Had to get another serving of bread to savor every last bit of the butter
- Baked barramundi with béchamel; very soft and moist with a delicious creamy sauce. Crumbed scallop with tartar sauce was tasty
- Pork neck with sweet and sour sauce; meat was a little sweet and tangy, quite tender and lean. This came with a side of pineapple chutney and pickles in a spicy and salty sauce to change up the flavour, probably my least favourite dish
- The black box; this was an optional dessert add-on, very nice with a balanced sweetness and a hint of tartness from the berry flavours. The box was a thin white chocolate which added a pleasant crispy texture and was not just there as a gimmick
- Australia; named based on the shape of the dessert, it is a layered cake with chocolate sponge and a mandarin and coconut parfait with frozen bits of mandarin fruit. The mirror glaze was very stretchy and smooth, topped with some lime granita which added a refreshing citrusy note
- Sesame snap; served inside a puzzle box, pretty creative way to end the meal
Overall it was a great dining experience; most of the dishes were amazing with friendly and attentive service from staffs. A little expensive considering the portion size especially with the add-on.
Nice ambience, some tasty dishes with well paired drinks but only 50% of them it was overpriced by probably $200 for 2 people, scattered staff like 24 customers in there and it seemed like they were overrun.it was a nice experience but I don't think al be back
Amazing experience Chef Peter dishes are very technical yet burst in flavours. Staff are very attentive of their service and attention to details. Well done to the team of IDES. You guys rock!
